News media scolds police chief for calling it a ‘Riot’

How does one confuse Taser with Glock?

According to KARE TV-11, Daunte Wright had an outstanding warrant for gross misdemeanor carrying a pistol without a permit and misdemeanor fleeing police.

The shooting may have been accidental, even if stupid. In the videotape, the officer is heard yelling “taser, taser, taser” before she exclaims “Holy S**t, I just shot him.” There remain serious questions about the stop and execution of the arrest. Didn’t stop Progressive hero Rashida Tlaib from declaring Monday night04-12-21 that the death of Daunte Wright “wasn’t an accident” and was “inherently [and] intentionally racist.”

That was no riot!

Even with rioting and looting in full view in the last couple nights, the networks continued to refer to protests or at most “protests turn violent.” It appears that Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon never got the memo.

The essential Jonathan Turley continues: the police chief was scolded for calling the widespread rioting a “riot” by reporters.

He was asked by a reporter “What was your decision to issue a dispersal order while they were peacefully protesting in front of the police station?”

Gannon responded by saying, “Just so that everybody’s clear, I was front and center at the protest, at the riot.”

That led to one person to object “Don’t do that” and another exclaiming “There was no riot.”  … Gannon was not inclined to yield to the word police:

“It was. The officers that were putting themselves in harm’s way were being pelted with frozen cans of pop, they were being pelted with concrete blocks. And yes, we had our helmets on and we had other protection and gear but an officer was injured, hit in the head with a brick … so we had to make decisions. We had to disperse the crowd because we cannot allow our officers to be harmed.”

Hooray for Minnesota Gov. Tim Waltz

Gov. Tim Walz:  “For those who choose to go out and … to exploit these tragedies for destruction or personal gain, you can rest assured that the largest police presence in Minnesota history and coordination will be prepared. You will be arrested. You will be charged. …It’s not debatable, you’re not making the case. You’re hurting the case. You’re undermining the grief, and you hear it from families time and time again.”

Resisting arrest + incompetent cop = tragedy.

      Agreed about the resisting part.

As for the cop being incompetent, she may very well be, but I also think adrenaline is a pretty potent chemical.

I guess it’s too much these days to wait for all the evidence in court, before making judgments.

    Also Tim Walz

“I am closely monitoring the situation in Brooklyn Center. Gwen and I are praying for Daunte Wright’s family as our state mourns another life of a Black man taken by law enforcement.” via his Twitter account.

The press is despicable and nauseating.

Well apparently “resisting arrest” is also a judgment. Media is variously reporting that he ” attempted to re-enter the car” and “the handcuffs were pulled away”.

Though I see your point, looking at the facts it’s hard to argue that he did not resist arrest. On the other hand, how can we say that a cop is “incompetent” based on one exchange?

The only facts we have are those that the media feeds us, and that for me, is not enough to base a decision on.

We have the facts of the cop’s own words … she mixed up her taser and gun. A lethal mistake = incompetent.

As I said, adrenaline is pretty potent, as is the desire for self preservation. We have the luxury of second-guessing behind the safety of a keyboard. Cops don’t. Being in a life or death situation offers a different perspective.

Cops walk around with targets on their back, even more so in this environment, and they have a second to think. Be grateful that you will likely never find yourself in that position.

Also, many cops are working mandatory extra shifts because of the defunding and demoralization efforts by leftists. Do we know if she was overworked and fatigued on top of fearing for her life.

We should all be less quick to judge.

Since you are so eager to make judgments based on random facts, I hope

Not only does one’s life flash by, thoughts of one’s livelihood and potential incarceration loom large. Guess there’s a reason fer yer pseudonym “One Eye”. Nevertheless, God gave ya TWO….

“Riot” has been on the Left’s–and therefore the media’s–list of forbidden words for some time–except of course when the “rioters” are white. That’s why they’ve devised an endless list of terms to denigrate the patriots’ uprising of Jan. 6th. Oops, sorry–is deNIGRAte a racist word? How careful one must be these days.

Well there were and are plenty White People at these destructive riots. Look at the the 2 rioters arrested for putting a state senator in the hospital. They were pretty pale skinned. I will correct your statement.

One Pretty easy way not to die at the hands of a Cop. Do Not Resist Arrest Ever. Even if the police are wrong. Go to the jail do not talk and get a lawyer or public defender. Plenty of people out there that will pony up for bail, or no bail at all in some cases. Plenty of SJW lawyers out there that will assist with proving your innocence. Just do not RESIST ARREST!!!!! PERIOD!!!!

Agreed. In fact, some demonstrations seem to be composed primarily of whites. I suspect at least many of these are college-educated, upper middle-class, suburban types. Just a guess.

    Some stray thoughts:

-MN Guv – Absolutely he is a liberal. But sometimes even a blind pig finds an acorn. Tho I see he’s now reverting to type…

-Had some sad laughs at CNN’s insistence that there were no MN riots, at their presser w/ the now ex-police chief. Only “protests”…. Hard-thrown frozen cans o’ pop, and assaults against LEO’s. Move along, folks, nuthin’ to see here…

-BTW, The kid from Liberia, Mayor Mike Elliot, hasn’t posted a Tweet since November, but was all over it yesterday.

Further, taser mix-up’s not the 1st time B/C we’re human after all:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/04/13/the-73-year-old-reserve-cop-who-mistook-his-gun-for-a-taser/

-It hinges on Balboa’s cogent comment, (and he’s NOT boilin’ the cabbage twice) -WHY resist, WHY exacerbate the problem, why NOT follow instructions and… why do ya think you can simply drive off ? White or black, young or old, what kind of brain comes up w/ THAT decision? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Guaranteed: We’re gonna hear a lot more about the “air freshener” hangin’ down, but not much more about the missed court date a week ago, illegal gun possession, fleeing police (gross misdemeanors,) etc……

      George,

Regarding the governor, he also made THIS statement via his Twitter account. ““Gwen and I are praying for Daunte Wright’s family as our state mourns another life of a Black man taken by law enforcement.”

He couldn’t help himself? Couldn’t get the facts first?

Yep, as I mentioned and you confirmed, he back-tracked after a slight breeze to his politically moistened finger. Forgive me… I keep hopin’ against hope RE: reality, but armed robbers w/ warrants, fleeing cops (again) are martyrs worthy of sainthood. If not sainthood, surely a few million bucks from the city coffers -Guaranteed…

I also forgot that common sense Must be part of that systemic racism we hear so much about. In the end it is a loss of life, looks like this young man ran out of stupid decisions and 2nd ,3rd,4th,5th chances in life.

Zhou Bai-Din calls for peaceful protests in Brooflyn Center, MN., and more BLMiing, … burning, looting and murdering begins. No kidding, … the last time a president did that, the hive-minded media called it an “ insurrection” and they wanted him impeached. With a Democrat in office, what’s the chance of that happening again?

Is Madison prepared? Frankly I’m surprised riots haven’t resumed here already.

If they do I sure hope Satyaphatassdown doesn’t hamstring the police and go down there and thank the rioters for their efforts like she did last year.

Of course Madison is prepared. Per Henry Sanders at Madison365 we have a “National model” of black leaders in place. What could possibly go wrong with that in place?
