Can we get back to the future sometime soon?
A certain former President ripped into Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell before a Republican National Committee donor event Saturday evening 04-10-21, deriding him as a “dumb son of a bitch.”
Mitch McConnell may be many things. A ‘dumb son of a bitch’ he is not. This is the Senate majority leader who saved #45 from being convicted after impeachment. Twice. This is the Republican leader who shepherded through the torturous confirmation process three supreme court justices and scores of lower federal court judges, reshaping the judiciary for years to come. This is the dumb son of a bitch who secured tax cuts and paved the way for energy independence. Mitch McConnell was also … re-elected.
What is frightening is that people paid good money to hear a former President imitate Mt. Soufriere, belching smoke and fire but very little light. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, said Sunday on CNN that divisive comments like those heard at Mar-a-lago weren’t helpful. (More here.) Just another RINO?
Politico reports: “Much of Trump’s Saturday night speech was aimed at re-litigating the election results.” That, my Republican friends, is not a winning message.
Mind if we start winning?
Nancy, Chuck, Kamala, and Uncle Joe are doing their best to elect Republicans. The border is overwhelmed, our hard-fought energy independence vanished at the pumps, trillions of dollars thrown at everything but infrastructure, cozying up to Iran and China, threatening gun rights, sowing racial division. To which, add packing the Supreme Court and the U.S. Senate. Mitch McConnell is not the problem, people.
Meanwhile, the former President resembles Napoleon on St. Helena island, adrift in the South Atlantic. He also dissed former Vice President Mike Pence. Loyalty is a two-way street, Mr. ex-President.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Big tents house winners, small tents shelter whiners.
As much as I dislike McConnell, he did attempt to maintain regular order of the Senate. Thank him for not removing the filibuster entirely during his time as majority leader. If we think things are bad now, without the filibuster the USSA would never awaken from an endless nightmare.

Not sure you’re correct on the energy independence, Dave. Seems to me that US frackers will benefit from higher oil prices which is how we became a net exporter, no? Speaking of which, why are we exporting our energy independence?

@mapkp—–Maybe your question was rhetorical, if not, We export because private companies are allowed to make a profit selling their product. Capitalism in short.

Napoleon escaped from exile and became emperor of France until he met his Waterloo. Maybe history is about to repeat itself, as it’s wont to do.

Only after Elba. Not after St. Helena.

My point is that between Elba and St. Helena he had one final blaze of glory. If Elba equals Mar a Lago, St. Helena must equal … Fort Leavenworth?

IMHO, I do not understand this even a little. The fellow had it ALL but chose to blow himself up. From the get-go to the end, he… (YOU fill in the gaps). Now? He’s workin’ on further staining his legacy by his own hand. Donald in the 80’s, and even the 90’s was a dab hand at self-promotion, but also put forth canny and intelligent thoughts. Wha’ hoppen ? Out of office, he’s been a self-serving outta-touch idiot and cannot get enuff of himself. Oh, Snap, maybe that’s repetitious…
I HATE agreein’ to this but: “Blaska’s Bottom Line: Big tents house winners, small tents shelter whiners.”

Some people lack the good common sense to cash in their chips and go home a winner. This man seems hell bent on burning down the house.

I spend very little time thinking about Donald Trump. I am however, considerably concerned about everything you mentioned in this paragraph. I suspect I’m not alone.

McConnell may be subdued in his speech, but in the eyes of many he’s just another wealthy Swamp politician whose wife has lucrative ties with China.
I think it’s helpful to at least understand why people feel as they do about establishment Republicans. Turning a deaf ear to conservatives who feel this way is precisely why Donald Trump was elected.

People FEEL this way about republicans not just because of Mitch. It’s Cruz, Greene, Gorka, Tucker, Sean, Cotton and the latest puke…Gaetz. Then the fool from Texas Gets on TV and complains about Biden’s TWEETS being boring. Your party has sucked their brains out of their butts and filled the void with tin-foiled hatted trolls.

After all this Covid stuff I really would like to visit my sons and grandkids in Minneapolis; but every time I make plans some cop kills a black guy and the whole area goes up in flames. If you can’t tell a taser from a gun you should be off the force. Everyday cops are shot. Students shot. Just watch the news. IT’S EVERY DAY. Just to make sure some fool living to podunk wis votes for a republican that won’t vote for regulation. Keep your heads in the sand; that way you won’t see YOUR homes burned.
