Hit the deck! Blaska is coming through!

A pleasant walk, spoiled by a Covid scold

Blaska is walking down Monroe Street Wednesday 03-10-21 on the uber-progressive near westside of Madison WI. Powering through a heart-healthy, brisk walk in the clean fresh air. Cue the Young Rascals.

Maybe 10 yards ahead on the sidewalk, in the vicinity of Wingra School (read its progressive mission statement). A woman is walking her dog, leashed. She is wearing a face mask; her little dog is not. The woman turns back toward your raconteur and shrieks:

KEEP YOUR DISTANCE!
YOU’RE NOT WEARING A MASK!

(Sorry for the all-CAPS, but they were necessary.) Blaska holds hands apart and remarks that walker, masked woman, and dog are out and about in God’s great outdoors. Woman begins jabbering about some “family member who …” Blaska bores easily and was not in the mood for more victimology. Dialing the volume to an 11, he barks (more all-CAPS):

GET OUT OF THE WAY!
I’M COMING THROUGH!

Whereupon woman and her little dog skittered onto the nearest lawn, still moist from the melting snow, as Blaska powered through. As he did so, woman mutters: “You don’t impress me.” (The leather motorcycle jacket patched with assorted expressions of open road Freedom may have inflamed her ire.)

Blaska is vaccinated against progressivism

face maskAs it happens, Moderna’s miracle dose #1 has been coursing through our veins these past three weeks. Dr. Marty Makary of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine advises that just one dose of the similar Pfizer Fauci ouchie produces “bullet-proof” immunity after four weeks. Aside from wearing a mask “for a few more weeks or months” … “There is little a vaccinated person should be discouraged from doing.”

⇒ And that mask advisory, the good doctor emphasizes, applies only “indoors.”

Never has the CDC mandated masks in the great outdoors. Nor has WI Governor Nevers. His Emergency Order #1 of July 30, 2020, required face coverings indoors and in enclosed spaces (like buses, etc.).

•   So I ask you, the peanut gallery and human crash-test volunteers: Did the Squire handle the situation appropriately?

•   Has this coronavirus pandemic created a new subspecies of holier-than-thou, self-righteous scolds? Or just a new opportunity for chronic virtue signalers?

•   What sense of entitlement must Monroe Street woman enjoy to tell others to mask up OUTDOORS or keep their distance? So when she stops, the Squire must stop? When her little dog sh*ts, must the Squire?

Ethics? Schmethics.

We intend to submit these questions to the New York Times’s resident ethicist: Kwame Anthony Appiah. (Blaska Policy Werkes fired its ethicist.) Mr. Appiah rules on touchy feely questions like: “Should I get a Covid-19 vaccine when others need it more?”

To answer the poor over-thinking devil, Mr. Appiah thrashes about in 395 words with equivocal phrases like: “But there’s another overall desideratum …”

Blaska’s Bottom Line: consists of only seven words and no (zero) overall desiderata: You got an arm? Stick it out! You want to wear a mask outdoors? We won’t stop you. Free country. We think.

Or IS it?

Kassidi Kurill, a 39-year-old from Ogden, Utah, died on February 5
She received her second dose of Moderna’s vaccine four days earlier
Kurill began experiencing headache and nausea a day after she was vaccinated
She was hospitalized two days later when her liver started to fail
Kurill’s family said she had no known health problems or pre-existing conditions
She worked as a surgical tech for several plastic surgeons. Healthcare workers in Utah were among the first to be eligible to receive the vaccine
An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of her sudden death
Utah’s medical examiner says they haven’t certified any vaccine-related deaths

Sounds like you handled it just fine.

I’ve been subjected to the same treatment. Scolded for not wearing a mask OUTDOORS while maintaining proper distances.

“Has this coronavirus pandemic created a new subspecies of holier-than-thou, self-righteous scolds? Or just a new opportunity for chronic virtue signalers?”

Just a new opportunity for chronic virtue signalers. The issue at hand doesn’t matter. They are flawed people who just like to revel in their own sanctimony.

    Sickens me to no end.

You were fine. In your face, Yuppieville.

Although I have never been confronted for being “unmasked” outside, I will continue to NEVER wear a mask outdoors, in my vehicle alone, or in my home unless somebody visiting requests it in-home.

Her dog eats excrement, why wasn’t it masked? 💩

Monroe St, was my WSJ paper route for some years and all our roaming was that idyllic land that is the Wingra, Vilas, Monroe neighborhoods. Great place to be a kid.

There is a direct co relation between Lefties and Covid fear, and Trump fear, and Insurrection fear and the next pointless thing we’re supposed to panic over. They are faithless, self loathing and dead damn set to make you share their well deserved misery.
Outside Lefty enclaves things are much calmer.
I ignore the virus and the mask mandate. I’ll ignore the vaccine as well as it addresses an problem I don’t have.
There is also the fact that the people most upset about Covid have been wrong or lying about everything else they’ve been telling me for years now.
    Fool me once…..

MadEx, Grew up there, too, same glee-filled stompin’ grounds: Big Triangle, Little Triangle, the IL Central RR tracks, and more. Lotsa f-u-n, pals and (now-forbidden) adventures. Big diff is ? It has changed from solid working class families who merely enjoyed life, families & their neighbors, into a cute upwardly-mobile center for “Woke” SJWs. And if’n ya ain’t one o’ them, woe betide ya, as the Karen demonstrated to David.

And Yep, yer right. The rules/precautions RE: Covid changed weekly, if not daily, by 180 degrees. From the Get-Go…

      1) It’s not a vaccine. A vaccine by definition provides immunity to a disease. This does not provide immunity to anything. In a best-case scenario, it merely reduces the chance of getting a severe case of a virus if one catches it. Hence, it is a medical treatment, not a vaccine.

      2) The drug companies, politicians, medical establishment, and media have joined forces to universally refer to this as a vaccine when it is not one, with the intention of manipulating people into feeling safer about undergoing a medical treatment. Because they are being deceitful, I do not trust them, and want nothing to do with their medical treatment.

      3) The presumed benefits of this medical treatment are minimal and would not last long in any case. The establishment acknowledges this, and is already talking about additional shots and ever-increasing numbers of new “vaccines” that would be required on a regular basis. I refuse to turn myself into a chronic patient who receives injections of new pharmaceutical products on a regular basis simply to reduce my chances of getting a severe case of a virus that these injections do not even prevent.

      5) The establishment insists that this medical treatment is safe. They cannot possibly know this because the long-term effects are entirely unknown, and will not be known for many years. They may speculate that it is safe, but it is disingenuous for them to make such a claim that cannot possibly be known. Because they are being disingenuous, I do not trust them, and I want no part of their treatment.

Yikes, this borders on Flat Earther rhetoric. The partial understanding of the immune system and ability to manipulate it on or off with vaccines or immunosuppresants is one of the greatest accomplishments in human history. The next claim will be that the mark on your shoulder isnt from the MMR vaccination as a kid but an implanted government tracking device!

          Kooter,
You’re doing exactly what the Rabbi describes, disparaging those who question the entire mass *vaccination* push. Informed consent is a cornerstone of health care in civilized countries but that is not happening with this medical treatment.
Explain exactly what the Rabbi is wrong about instead of tossing out asinine flat earth analogies.

Btw; you continue to mock Nathan Marks about masks but he made it clear he was referring to *N95 masks.* Using them on a massive scale poses problems but is worth discussion and investigation instead of ridicule.

Dave, RE: your encounter with a virtue-signaling vapid victim; yes, you handled it beatifully, … with dignity, grace and appropriate aplomb. I’ve endured a similar experience, upon seeing an unmasked Happy Man, walking Good Dog, she actually crossed the street in order to avoid any of my Conservative Covid cooties.

Truth be told, … whenever I encounter an enlightened hirsute feminasty with a hint of a mustache,
I too, will cross the street in order to avoid contact and possible contamination.

The mask mandates are beyond silly. Paper does not filter viruses. Everyone takes them off to eat, drink or sneeze. Every communal event should be a “super spreader” except they aren’t. Every street person, every HIV/Aids sufferer. every IV drug user and everyone over 80 should be dead. Watch the honest mortality rates for Covid 19 plummet.
By then. however we’ll be on Covid 25 or 26.

David, you should have said, I have a Jill Biden doctors note to really set the Idjit off. Yes it is transmissible being outside near non masked people. Not likely but possible. the CDC is about to lower the standard to 3 feet. Maybe it is time to invest in the playhouse blow up balls and we can just roll around in our own plastic bubbles. I would have been less kind than you David. I would have just ignored her and kept walking on the public side walk we all pay for and rolled my eyes at her.

Yet another example of how Madison’s liberal elites live for virtue-signaling; it probably took her a nanosecond to size up DB as an anti-science yahoo and probable Trump voter who needed to be put in his place. I’ve gotten plenty of dirty looks (though no verbal assaults so far) for not wearing a mask while pedaling briskly along the bike path that runs parallel to Atwood and Willy Streets; needless to say, they’ve done nothing to nudge me toward repentance.

“Cuomo is not as strong as Trump. Trump withstood allegations from 26 women. Cuomo will never make that number.”

Now, following the guilt by association logic of woke proglibots, Governor Cuomo’s brother Fredo should also begin packing his bags.

Are Face Masks Effective? The Evidence.
    Updated: January 2021;

An overview of the current evidence regarding the effectiveness of face masks.
    1. Studies on the effectiveness of face masks
So far, most studies found little to no evidence for the effectiveness of cloth face masks in the general population, neither as personal protective equipment nor as a source control.
    1. A May 2020 meta-study on pandemic influenza published by the US CDC found that face masks had no effect, neither as personal protective equipment nor as a source control. (Source)
    2. A Danish randomized controlled trial with 6000 participants, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in November 2020, found no statistically significant effect of high-quality medical face masks against SARS-CoV-2 infection in a community setting. (Source)
    3. A July 2020 review by the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine found that there is no evidence for the effectiveness of cloth masks against virus infection or transmission. (Source)
    4. A May 2020 cross-country study by the University of East Anglia (preprint) found that a mask requirement was of no benefit and could even increase the risk of infection. (Source)
    5. An April 2020 review by two US professors in respiratory and infectious disease from the University of Illinois concluded that face masks have no effect in everyday life, neither as self-protection nor to protect third parties (so-called source control). (Source)
    6. An article in the New England Journal of Medicine from May 2020 came to the conclusion that cloth face masks offer little to no protection in everyday life. (Source)
    7. Etc., etc… (16 more studies showing mask to be virtually useless…)
