A jogger found Beth Potter the morning of March 31 lying aside a trail in the University of Wisconsin Arboretum. She was clothed only in pajamas and socks on a 30-degree night, not yet dead. Her husband, Robin Carre, lying nearby only in his underwear, was already gone.
Two good, community-minded Madison liberals, trying to live their sense of social justice. (Mr. Carre’s letter supporting the liberal WI Supreme Court candidate.) How had they failed their adopted daughter and her minority-race boyfriend? Or did their Madison progressivism fail them?
Police found .357 SIG shell casings around the bodies, “indicating a likelihood that the victims had been shot at that location,” according to the criminal complaint. Both had been shot point-blank in the head. A resident nearby heard gunshots at about 11 p.m. the night before.
Beth Potter and Robin Carre, it appears, had been dragged out of bed, taken to the heavy woods of the arboretum, and executed point blank. For money.
The criminal complaint cites an informant overhearing a conversation in ceramics class (no less!) at Madison West high school between one of the defendants, Khari Sanford, and the murdered couple’s adopted daughter (who has not been charged as of this writing), “of how they could get money” — that her parents were wealthy. (The criminal complaint names the second defendant as Alijah J. Larrue.)
No lack of breaks
Almost more troubling is Chris Rickert’s report in the WI State Journal (“This was a brutal execution”) that Sanford’s attorney said she’s been contacted “by community leaders in Madison concerned about Sanford.” She did not name the community leaders. What ARE their concerns?
Rickert reports that Sanford (innocent until proven guilty) had been an intern in the council’s office last summer. The mayor of Madison on July 29 Tweets a picture posing with Sanford after a benefit to raise money for a basketball court. Beneficidary of mentoring, adult-organized sports, and “racial justice advocacy.” Still resulted in a “police the police” post on his social media site (now taken down).
Khari Sanford appears to have benefitted from every kind of consideration:
- An internship at the Madison Common Council office;
- Photographed with the mayor;
- Mentoring;
- “Social justice” advocacy;
- Captain of high high school football team;
- Deferred prosecution for car theft;
- Well-off liberal parents let him shack up with their daughter and use one of their vehicles.
- The murdered couple even paid rent to put daughter and boyfriend up in their own pad!
- CERAMICS CLASS!
Sanford was living with his girl friend, the adopted daughter of the slain couple, in the parents’ home. The two young people refused to self-quarantine for the coronavirus pandemic despite the entreaties of her adoptive mother, a physician, who was especially susceptible due to a medical condition. Man, that is cold.

Hopefully the DA is sizing the daughter up for charges. The savages were just being true to their nature. She however exhibits a special sort of degeneracy.

If you change the word “liberals” in that statement to “progressives” I’ll wholeheartedly agree you, otherwise I think you’re a bit off base. Progressives have repeatedly shown high levels of ideological blindness when it comes to “dealing with the garbage of our society”.

I think the “Proglibocrats” are simply progressives masquerading as Liberals.
There’s kind of an grey line between Liberals and progressives but that grey line becomes really thick and very prominent when most of the non-extreme Liberals I know look at how progressives are “dealing with the garbage of our society”. I really do set Liberals and progressives in separate ideological spaces,but of course there are some obvious overlaps.
In my humble opinion; “progressives” have their heads screwed on wrong, there’s something psychologically wrong with them, they are off the rails of reality. In contrast, I have no real problem with most “Liberals”; I’ve made the mistake over the years to lump the two together and I no longer think they are the same, just similar in some ways. A lot of the Liberals I know are putting some real distance between them and progressives but I am kind of fed up with the fact that Liberals sat back and allowed progressives to take over the political left.
Steve, if you support the Democrat party at *this* point – you are evil and abetting evil. There is NO talking your way around that truth, only you attempting to make yourself feel better about your poor political choice.

Using the word evil in your comment is extreme hyperbole. Just because someone disagrees with your opinion does not mean they’re evil, in fact the political left has been trying to label any Trump supporter as “evil” for over three years – how do you like being labeled evil?

First; I’m not sure that either or both of these parents were Liberals, I suppose it’s possible and maybe even likely in the heavy Liberal enclave of Madison.
Second; Just because they might be or are Liberals doesn’t mean they are “DOUCHEBAG PARENTS”. I know LOTS of Liberals that are great parents, heck I even know a LOT of misguided progressives that are great parents. Your name calling is uncalled for, nothing like kicking them when they’re literally DEAD and they can’t protect themselves from your personal attacks.

Notice in the July 29 tweets from Rickert (photos of sanford with the mayor) one of the other photos looks like Larrue (in green “champions” shirt) standing next to Sanford, who is standing next to the mayor. Look closely.

This was not a robbery, turned kidnapping, turned murder. The boyfriend is likely shielding the daughter ….for now. I think you can expect for her to be arrested eventually because that robbery gone wrong story doesn’t pass the smell test. As a robbery it was a disaster. As a “kidnapping” is was worse. As a murder it was straight to the point and efficient. A .357 slug to each head leaving the bodies where they fell. His only disappointment was that one hadn’t died quickly enough.
And as you ponder her degree of involvement, just think about this young man’s motivations towards the people who had allowed him to live in their home, loaned him a van, and paid for their current residence, an Air B&B. Should he be angry with them? Angy to the point of double murder? Makes no sense.
And I’ll just add that you don’t murder your girlfriend’s “wealthy” parents without her permission or knowledge. They weren’t there to steal wads of cash (which I doubt ever existed.) They were there to kill the parents and make the daughter an heiress.
I have been following this and agree completely. A robbery (at 10:30/11pm, kind of early if you want to rob sleeping people) doesn’t make sense. The daughter and bf were asked to leave a few weeks before the crime because of their refusal to social distance; we can presume they would have some access to the house after the pandemic, even if they weren’t living there. They could just rob the house another time when no one is home.
Kidnapping also makes no sense…kidnapping for what? And what motivation would he have for money/murder when he was already benefitting financially from her parents being alive (renting them an AirBnB, loaning them their car, & who’s paying for all the food her mom said they were ordering all the time and eating in the daughter’s bedroom?) If they are dead then his lifestyle would need to be funded another way.
Bf as the murderer and money as the motive makes sense if somehow he were to benefit financially from their murder.
Also I don’t get the logic in him doing anything without her knowledge since they weren’t ex’s or estranged; If she really had no idea what he was doing around 10-11pm, given what just happened to her parents and what he was accused of, the fact that she still lied to the police saying she loves him and is very loyal to him is profound.
This is all so heartbreaking and tragic for everyone involved and their loved ones.
The Gotch is a forgiving soul, but there are things for which no forgiveness is either forthcoming, or conceivable.
Can you even imagine the catastrophic horror of lying next to your dead spouse, freezing, near death yourself as your life’s slipping away, for over seven hours?
Those P‘sOS deserve nothing less than to feel exactly that, worse if that’s humanly possible, for every moment of every day for the rest of their miserable lives!

So difficult to “like” this post. No words for this horrible crime. No real surprise either, in Madison, where nobody does anything wrong if they belong to the correct group. This is one of the most painful news stories I’ve ever read about in Madison, except for that little college girl, Brittany, whose murder went unsolved for many years.
