Hollywood smugness gets its comeuppance

Was Robert deNiro amused?

And the winner for Courage in the Face of Liberal Arrogance
award goes to …

All hail Ricky Gervais! The British comedian did what the American Left only prattles about but never practices: he afflicted the comfortable and spoke truth to power. That being, of course, America’s multi-billion dollar entertainment industry. The self-appointed moral conscience and arbiter of correct thinking.

laughter-magazine copyThe host Sunday night of Hollywood’s Golden Globe Awards chomped down hard on the hand that has been feeding him. Gervais skewered the self-importance and virtue-signaling of America’s masters of the universe. He pilloried the condescension of heliport-hopping climate change activists, the hypocrisy of multi-millionaire socialists.

Yes, Gervais was lewd and crude. Mean-spirited. Unfair. Hurtful. Even self-righteous. Stings, doesn’t it, my liberal-progressive-socialist acquaintances!

A taste of Gervais’ strong medicine, minus even a little bit of sugar to make it go down:

I came here in a limo tonight and the license plate was made by Felicity Huffman.

We were going to do an “in memoriam” this year abut when I saw list of people who had died it wan’t diverse enough. No, it was mostly white people and I thought, Nah. Not on my watch! Maybe next year.

Apple roared into the TV game with The Morning Show, a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China. Well, you say you’re woke but the companies you work for in China — unbelievable. Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you?

So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.

What do YOU think?

Forget Sacred Cows; arrogant, hypocritical, elitist, vapid Hollyweird Lefties make THE best burger!

I howled when I saw this earlier. I thought if anyone in the crowd had any guts they’d leave. Then when I saw the mawkish Tom Hanks I realized there was an award for some and massive egos for the rest.
So you couldn’t have gotten them out of their chairs with dynamite much less insults.

What…Colin Kaepernick — with his middle-class upbringing with Wisconsin parents — is not the supreme arbiter of foreign policy rectitude and global justice? To be fair, the Philly Eagles probably could have used Colin Sunday instead of that 40-year-old backup QB.

Can it be that some celebrities may not be able to spell celebrity?

Bravo, Ricky! Too bad no one in his audience has a conscience (or a sense of irony) that would allow his words to make an impact. At least it seems that some insiders are getting fed up with the endless virtue-signaling that’s become a way of life in the Hollywood Lefty universe.

Yes, Ricky is right in his statements, as a long-time progressive cynic I have on occasion focused my ire on the Volvo-Birkenstock crowd, except now the climate change crowd are using SUVs to transport their kayaks.

By George, you’ve (both) got it right ! Altho it’s a shame (IMHO) the denouement was delivered by a non-funny, smarmy British onlooker….

Probably the finest eight minutes in the history of the Golden Globes. Amusing to observe the bewildered reaction of the audience at being mocked while simultaneously feeling a visceral urge to laugh.

If The Orange Master decides to spice things up a bit he should replace Pence with Gervais. Trump would be less distracted while Gervais skewers the priggish Left as only he can.
Then, invest in safe spaces to profit from the whole spectacle.
