Do it the right way

Battling for a political party’s soul

Pilloried for calling out her party’s anti-semitic hate.

Haley Stevens is on the side of the angels, Republicans are saying, while Liz Cheney remains condemned to perdition. Democrats reverse the polarity. Could be both were trying to save their political parties on the eve of their destruction. (🎶 Even the Jordan river has bodies floatin’. 🎵)

Liz Cheney was cast out of her Republican caucus for calling out Trump and his Stolen Election Lie, which continues to hobble our political home.

Rep. Stevens is the Michigan Democrat who narrowly lost her party’s nomination for U.S. Senate and, two days before Election Day, repudiated winning Bernie Bro progressive nominee Abdul El Sayed. Instead, she broke party ranks in favor of the Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. House Democrats are shunning Stevens. Her congressional staff is quitting (two months before she leaves office). The state party is tearing up her membership card.

“F-ing traitor. F-ing coward,” is typical of the reaction on the hard Left. Rep. Stevens may be a traitor, but the lady is no coward.

A woman speaking at a panel, with a quote from Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) displayed prominently, criticizing a Democratic Senate nominee for their association with someone who made controversial statements about 9/11. Two inset images of men are visible in the upper right corner.

Maybe she just got fed up

Here is Anderson Cooper on CNN haranguing Stevens for just short of 15 minutes, essentially asking, over and over, How Could You DO That to Our Democrats?! A small taste:

Anderson Cooper: “Something changed your mind, what was it? … Did you have a long night of the soul … did you have a dream? What happened?”

Haley Stevens: “This is about Abdul getting angry and angrier and saying I don’t want these people in my campaign.”

Cooper: “No it isn’t.”

Stevens: “It sounds like you’re upset [with] me, too. … This is about Abdul .. I’m trying to help the Democratic party. I felt the same with way [Graham] Platner and his Nazi tattoo and sexual abuse.”

Cooper: “It sounds like it’s because of you being disinvited to an event.”

Stevens: “Look, I don’t like seeing a Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate campaigning with someone [Hasan Piker] who says America deserved 911.”

Cooper: “Do you want Democrats to win and control the Senate.”

Stevens: “I absolutely do. I’m just casting my vote this one way.”

Cooper: “As a Democrat how do you feel about Trump praising you.”

Stevens: “I impeached him twice.”

The Nation, that Israel-hating magazine (and John Nichols’ day job), denounces Haley Stevens’ “Betrayal”:

Centrist, pro-Israel Democrats helped Stevens undermine Abdul El-Sayed for months. Now they are reaping the consequences. Stevens has a personal connection to Zionism as well. Her fiancé, Jason Turkish, is strongly pro-Israel and a megadonor to both political parties. …

The best-case scenario for the Democrats might be that they win a large enough supermajority that they can afford to expel a few wreckers within the party, not just Stevens but also Senator John Fetterman. — The Nation

(Note the Stalinist term: “wreckers.”) Barack Obama campaigned for El Sayed!

Meanwhile in Wisconsin

Francesca Hong came within a whisker of becoming the Democrat(ic) nominee for governor. The pro-Palestinian socialist also campaigned with the hate monger, Piker. Hong represents downtown Madison in the state legislature as a nominal Democrat. A certain former Madison WI mayor doesn’t “recognize the Republican Party at all any more, and increasingly, I find it hard to stay attached to my own.”

I’m a Democrat who would like to see some Democrats lose in November. At the top of that list is Abdul El-Sayed, the socialist-lite who is running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. … I want the populist hard-left to get knocked back on its heels. — Dave Cieslewicz

Blaska’s Bottom Lines: Hungry for Wisconsin’s vote, Dwight Eisenhower, the hero of D-Day and a great or near-great President, chose political expediency rather than defend General Marshall against the demagoguery of Joe McCarthy. Democrats, for their part, awarded committee chairmanships to its southern segregationists into the 1970s.

In Wisconsin today, both candidates for governor are dancing with the ones what brung them. Neither Crowley nor Tiffany can afford to alienate a single voter, however hateful.

Will it be a different story after Election Day?
