Could Wisconsin’s governor’s race get any more interesting?
Doesn’t rise to the level of George W. Bush standing with the veteran fire fighter at Ground Zero, but Tom Tiffany speaking in front of the rescue personnel in Wausau was moving just the same. If you’ve been living under a rock, the Republican candidate for governor survived a small plane crash Saturday night 09-12-26 into a dark lake outside of Wausau. As if there hasn’t already been enough drama in the contest.
At times tearful, “It gives me great appreciation to be here another day with my wife and family; for at least awhile. God spared me.”
“There was no panic,” Tiffany told news media from the Wausau fire department. He thanked the expertise of the small plane’s pilot, retired Air Force pilot Lenny Boltz, after their single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza airplane lost power. The two swam roughly about 125 feet to a shallower spot to a sand bar where they were rescued.
Has the President expressed his well wishes? the news media asked. “If the President called it’s being answered by one of the fish down in Lake Wausau. … My phone is in Lake Wausau.” …
You can see the stitches above his right eye. No concussion. (No worm in the brain, either.) “It seems like we had minimal damage,” Rep. Tiffany reported. (Knocks on wood.) Presented fruit gift basket to his rescuers. Teared up often during the press conference.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: The bloodless political tactician in me (Out! Damned Spot!) would say “Good campaign move, Tom.” The sympathy vote has elected more than one candidate. (John Fetterman, anyone?). But, watching the video …
