Could Wisconsin’s governor’s race get any more interesting?
Doesn’t rise to the level of George W. Bush standing with the veteran fire fighter at Ground Zero, but Tom Tiffany speaking in front of the rescue personnel in Wausau was moving just the same. If you’ve been living under a rock, the Republican candidate for governor survived a small plane crash Saturday night 09-12-26 into a dark lake outside of Wausau. As if there hasn’t already been enough drama in the contest.
At times tearful, “It gives me great appreciation to be here another day with my wife and family; for at least awhile. God spared me.”
“There was no panic,” Tiffany told news media from the Wausau fire department. He thanked the expertise of the small plane’s pilot, retired Air Force pilot Lenny Boltz, after their single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza airplane lost power. The two swam roughly about 125 feet to a shallower spot to a sand bar where they were rescued.

Has the President expressed his well wishes? the news media asked. “If the President called it’s being answered by one of the fish down in Lake Wausau. … My phone is in Lake Wausau.” …
You can see the stitches above his right eye. No concussion. (No worm in the brain, either.) “It seems like we had minimal damage,” Rep. Tiffany reported. (Knocks on wood.) Presented fruit gift basket to his rescuers. Teared up often during the press conference.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: The bloodless political tactician in me (Out! Damned Spot!) would say “Good campaign move, Tom.” The sympathy vote has elected more than one candidate. (John Fetterman, anyone?). But, watching the video …

Yes
“God spared me”, says congressman Tiffany.
Interesting. Delusional people frequently overestimate their influence. Especially MAGA types.
Truth! God was too busy helping the Texas Longhorns come back against Ohio State.
“Can you sense the man’s essential decency?”
Merely asking this rhetorical question tends to indicate that there might be a problem.
In the mind of the Author, the god that saved Trump wasn’t the same God that saved Tom Tiffany.
No doubt it’s rare to see a politician unmasked. Probably doomed Dukakis back in the day when he kept the mask on in response to Bernard Shaw’s “Kitty question”. The bobble head in the tank didn’t help either.
May have won Trump the election after “Fight, Fight, Fight!” in Butler. Shows true courage / bravery right? Maybe. I’m starting to think the President is physically incapable of fear.
Good for Tiffany he’ll have a cool scar.
Yes. Good for Tiffany. Fortunately he and his pilot had the strength to act on their instincts for self-preservation.
This is what I sense. A 68 yr old swimming 125 feet in the dark after impacting the lake in a 2,950 pound aircraft is fit to lead Wisconsin!
Cool scar.
Doesn’t rise to the level of “Fight Fight Fight”, eh Blaska?
The whole scenario has AI slop written all over it. Next week: David Crowley gets rescued from Lake Michigan.
The “scenario”, as you call it, was in fact very real, not AI generated, unless you want to tell me that the NBC News report I just viewed was an illusion. Congressman Tiffany had a bad scare; he was weeping during the press conference, the fresh cut with stitches in the shape of a semi-circle clearly visible above his right eye. David Crowley had a brief press conference also, wishing his opponent well. 🙏
Tiffany thinks the $5k payout to every American is a fine idea. He’s too deep in the grip of the cult to be a trustworthy elected official- he doesn’t even have the freedom to call stupid ideas stupid.
In other news, a Russian rich guy attended and ***paid for*** Don Jr.’s lavish wedding. Same guy that had recently accompanied Putin on a state trip to China and received a Russian state honor. If that were Hunter Biden, it would be the only thing the media talks about. Since it’s an R…. Silence. Scrolled NBC – nothing, CBS – a “nothing to see here” story, ABC – nothing, Fox, nothing. Liberal media? My ear.
This isn’t made up – they confirmed it, and said it’s just a wedding gift from a close friend. So, one of the closest friends of Jr. is a Russian oligarch closely aligned with Putin who gives hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gifts to the newlyweds…. Interesting.
We have the most corrupt presidential administration in US history, and it’s the fault of R voters and R Congresspeople like Tiffany. Cut bait folks! Grow a spine! Socialism grows from the soil of corrupted capitalism. If you want to keep socialism at bay, clean up corruption and impeach.
I hope this incident lowers the temperature of the retoric for the duration. This extreme hate of politics is way out of line
To be frank, voters need to hold elected officials to this standard you propose. It’s not up to the candidates, it’s up to the voters. Voters have rewarded disgusting, violent, and racist rhetoric. Voters haven’t withheld support from congresspeople who accept this type of communication from party leaders. Congresspeople get routinely asked to comment on the disgusting comment-of-the-day. They typically roll over and stay essentially silent rather than forcefully retort that those views are abhorrent and have no place in the party.
You have a chance right now to tell candidates that they need to stand up, not stay silent, against party leaders who engage in disgusting rhetoric. Are you ready to make that call, and let them know you’re ready to withhold your vote?
Did you take a stand against disgusting rhetoric and withhold your vote from Francesca Hong?
I was advising as to how to achieve the goal that the post expressed, and that advice is true. I’m personally getting quite comfortable with the MAGA era no-holds-barred, nothing-is-disqualifying politics. I prefer seeing cons with their masks off. It’s refreshing to see cons openly supporting a depraved rapist, a supporter of child-sex-trafficking networks, a corrupt fool, instead of trying to pretend cons have moral standards.
I used to think that Rs would sell out anything for lower taxes – that was the fundamental goal. Now it’s proven that Rs will welcome higher taxes from an R President – so what’s the real fundamental goal? I have a good guess…
Answer the question, Rollie.
Congratulations Serendipity on a fine stroke of irony in your pseudonym.
Thank you, expat. Coming from you, that observation counts as high praise. I chose my pseudonym because good things have always happened in my life by chance.
The word “serendipity” has an interesting derivation. Look it up sometime.
In your case it is an interesting deviation.
Alright.
May the force be with you.
