Haven’t we tried enough progressivism?
“I’ve heard rumors you are running for mayor,” Bonnie Roe told the proprietor of the Policy Werkes. (Bonnie, if you don’t know her, is a knowledgeable supporter of police in a town that needs more of them.) Not wanting to disillusion Ms. Roe, Blaska answered that he has heard the same rumors.
77 Square Miles reports that three more candidates are running for mayor of Madison WI. The three most recent are April Kigeya, a former county board member (we predicted she would run); Larry Williams, a food service executive; and Jon Hinds, a body builder.
They join Syed Abbas, Brian Benford, Kaleem Caire, and Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, bringing the total to seven (7) candidates for the April 6, 2027 election. Wait, make that eight (8)! We found Daniel L. Howell Jr.! (If you are NOT running for mayor, pls take a step backward.)
At this point, we’re not seeing anyone who represents the great over-taxed, under-protected, and decidedly unWoke Madison home owner.
Is Madison ready for some hardball?
What chance does an unapologetic Boomer and dues-paying RINO have to become the most conservative mayor since Bill Dyke? Less than the Cubs bullpen in AmFam Field. But when has futility stopped us?!
What would a Blaska platform look like?
1) Hold the line on property taxes — not just the tax rate (which can go down as property values — and your tax bill — go up) but the absolute levy dollar figure. There’s your housing affordability right there!
2) Zero out the police monitor and expunge its enabling ordinance from the city’s books.
3) Post on the city website a portal to the one truly independent and statutorily authorized Police & Fire Commission.
4) Restore city funding for school resource police officers as an incentive for the school board to re-admit them to our troubled high schools.
5) Veto any appropriation for a Corey Ruiz memorial.
6) Abolish all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs while promoting anti-discrimination safeguards.
7) Encourage police to pursue law breakers and take high-speed daredevils off the Beltline.
8) Protect duly permitted events like Concerts on the Square from disruption. Blaska will not sanction the heckler’s veto anywhere within city limits.
9) Conduct a public information campaign among faith and identity groups that resisting arrest is not a get-out-of-jail card.
10) Rename a public space for Fredric March, unjustly vilified by the racial arsonists.
11) Quit competing with private enterprise: end the public grocery store fiasco and get out of the public housing business!
12) Enforce anti-vagrancy, graffiti, and other quality-of-life laws. We believe in the Broken Windows theory of law enforcement.
13) More salt on icy streets.
14) Leave Regent Street alone (save $17 million on a proposed redevelopment).
15) Entice a private developer to use his own money to connect Camp Randall, the Kohl Center, Monona Terrace, and the Alliant Energy Center with a world attraction monorail.
16) Of course, police cameras.
17) A Porsche 911 Carrera staff car for the mayor. (Boomers just wanna have fun!)
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Back a few years, Blaska told the Wisconsin State Journal editorial board that he sought election to the Madison school board only after failing to find anyone good. We’re at that point today. A conservative candidate might not win, but s/he could tilt the gravity field.

An old trap & skeet shooting adage comes to mind, “when the lead’s in the air the chance is there”.

That’s all I could come up with in short notice while nursing the nasty week long cold that I caught in Indiana over Labor Day weekend and my current migraine.
No monorail. Just promise to demolish the Wonder Bar and fire Meeka and Fickell. And no it doesn’t matter that you can’t fire them … think like a politician dammit!
But seriously the only thing that will defeat Satya is the city burning on DCI day. I’ve said this many times the only way out is through. East siders got skin in the game and now they hate the BLM crowd. Let’s see if we can help the next iteration come to Monroe Street.

The rock, unfortunately, is university property. Blaska does believe in limited government. Working on Tom Tiffany for that one.
If the monorail doesn’t make the cut; what happened to the idea of having a nice sized aerial tram from the Alliant Energy Center to the top of the Monona Terrace to help alleviate some of the parking issues in the downtown square area? There are nearly 6,000 parking stalls in the four large parking lots around the Alliant Energy Center, I’m sure dedicating a thousand or so stalls to this kind of venture wouldn’t hurt the Center’s ability to hold events.
Monorail and aerial tramway are same thing.

The Porsche is non-negotiable.
Good luck if you run. I think the deck is stacked against you. You have the Leftist voters, city council, school board, DA’s office, judges, Dane County Board and others against you. I think Madison will have to burn worse than the BLM riots before the voters might get it. Do you think LA or California will vote someone different in or just the same and wonder why nothing changes?

BTW, I never understood why Angela Lansbury was never awarded the “Oscar” for perhaps her best role as the political operative from hell in 1962’s The Manchurian Candidate. She was nominated for this one and other movies. Doesn’t matter. Her lifelong stage and screen artistry are unmatched.
Hands down the most frightening villain in motion picture history. Reading about the movie, Frank Sinatra’s salary accounted for half the film’s budget. He was very good in it.

Dayam, I left Madison too soon if you’re gonna run. I’d even contribute $5 for the Porsche machine just because yer a likable old curmudgeon. Unfortunately, as a commenter said above…you’d be up against an army of loonies, and the example of CA voting for the same and wondering why nothing changed, is spot on. The most offensive so far is forgetting 911 and voting for that sleezebag mayor in NYC. Now all the NYers are moving down here to escape the magic of communism. Pray for us they don’t NY our state and I’ll pray for your state to have a miracle.
You certainly would make the mayoral race more interesting! The campaign trail would give you a platform to present some common sense ideas. Take your vitamins & hire a bodyguard if you decide to run.
