Haven’t we tried enough progressivism?
“I’ve heard rumors you are running for mayor,” Bonnie Roe told the proprietor of the Policy Werkes. (Bonnie, if you don’t know her, is a knowledgeable supporter of police in a town that needs more of them.) Not wanting to disillusion Ms. Roe, Blaska answered that he has heard the same rumors.
77 Square Miles reports that three more candidates are running for mayor of Madison WI. The three most recent are April Kigeya, a former county board member (we predicted she would run); Larry Williams, a food service executive; and Jon Hinds, a body builder.
They join Syed Abbas, Brian Benford, Kaleem Caire, and Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, bringing the total to seven (7) candidates for the April 6, 2027 election. Wait, make that eight (8)! We found Daniel L. Howell Jr.! (If you are NOT running for mayor, pls take a step backward.)
At this point, we’re not seeing anyone who represents the great over-taxed, under-protected, and decidedly unWoke Madison home owner.
Is Madison ready for some hardball?
What chance does an unapologetic Boomer and dues-paying RINO have to become the most conservative mayor since Bill Dyke? Less than the Cubs bullpen in AmFam Field. But when has futility stopped us?!
What would a Blaska platform look like?
1) Hold the line on property taxes — not just the tax rate (which can go down as property values — and your tax bill — go up) but the absolute levy dollar figure. There’s your housing affordability right there!
2) Zero out the police monitor and expunge its enabling ordinance from the city’s books.
3) Post on the city website a portal to the one truly independent and statutorily authorized Police & Fire Commission.
4) Restore city funding for school resource police officers as an incentive for the school board to re-admit them to our troubled high schools.
5) Veto any appropriation for a Corey Ruiz memorial.
6) Abolish all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs while promoting anti-discrimination safeguards.
7) Encourage police to pursue law breakers and take high-speed daredevils off the Beltline.
8) Protect duly permitted events like Concerts on the Square from disruption. Blaska will not sanction the heckler’s veto anywhere within city limits.
9) Conduct a public information campaign among faith and identity groups that resisting arrest is not a get-out-of-jail card.
10) Rename a public space for the Fredric March, unjustly vilified by the racial arsonists.
11) Quit competing with private enterprise: end the public grocery store fiasco and get out of the public housing business!
12) Enforce anti-vagrancy, graffiti, and other quality-of-life laws. We believe in the Broken Windows theory of law enforcement.
13) More salt on icy streets.
14) Leave Regent Street alone (save $17 million on a proposed redevelopment).
15) Entice a private developer to use his own money to connect Camp Randall, the Kohl Center, Monona Terrace, and the Alliant Energy Center with a world attraction monorail.
16) Of course, police cameras.
17) A Porsche 911 Carrera staff car for the mayor. (Boomers just wanna have fun!)
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Back a few years, Blaska told the Wisconsin State Journal editorial board that he sought election to the Madison school board only after failing to find anyone good. We’re at that point today. A conservative candidate might not win, but s/he could tilt the gravity field.
