Pray for Madison

Why are Madison’s leaders silent?

After taking over Madison’s seat of government over the weekend, guerrillas engaged in the Corey Ruiz intifada are locked and loaded with tendentious questions for Mayor Satya, Police Chief Patterson, and other city managers at tonight’s special (and we think, unprecedented) Council meeting.

→ It’s live-streamed on the City Channel, on YouTube, and Spectrum cable 994 starting at 5 p.m. 08-24-26. No public comment.

As just one for instance: Ald. Carmela Glenn poses 68 (!!!) questions that assert more than they query. All in service of defunding police by other means. That’s just crazy but this is where we’re at in Madison WI. Three of her questions betray her game:

What processes exist for removing a police chief?

What safety protocols were in place to ensure people were not injured while tents and belongings were being removed?

Was [the police monitor] notified in advance of the clearing operation, and if not, why not, given OIPM’s oversight role?

We have a few questions of our own:

Did Corey Ruiz deserve to die? No, but neither did a good friend of ours from painful pancreatic cancer.

Could Corey’s death been avoided? Yes! By not brandished a knife against arresting police officers.

Was Corey’s death a tragedy, as county Exec Melissa Agard (among others) proclaimed? No. The Abundant Life school shooting was a tragedy; so was 9/11. Not this one.

Did ‘The System’ fail Corey Ruiz? Only by not imposing the prison time merited for his multiple crimes. A better case is “The System” failed public safety.

Why do social justice warriors like Al Sharpton ignore black-on-black crime? Although claiming more victims, there is no profit in addressing it.

If a city employee vows to “F-ing burn this city down!” in the midst of civil unrest, should she be fired for violating terms of her contract? Yes, and don’t be afraid to litigate it.

Madison’s City County Building over the weekend

Is it too much to ask that the City of Madison protect the City County Building from becoming a diorama for the cop haters? Apparently. The Council meeting tonight is again “virtual.”

What can the City of Madison do to placate BLM, Freedom Inc., Progressive Dane, and democratic socialists? Nothing. Nihilism cannot be placated.

Was the shooting of this black man by a white police officer “an execution,” like Francesca Hong says? The term implies the cold-bloodedness Truman Capote invoked in his true crime novel. At worst, July 24 was a mistake made in the heat of the moment. The woman is just crazy.

Speak out against crazy

When will city community leaders — business, civic, and religious — start actually (you know) leading? Not until the smoke clears, we fear.

“I don’t think most liberals are insane but neither to they make it clear that they disapprove of the ones who are and their cowardice in not marginalizing their own crazies has been their downfall.” — Bill Maher

This is a call out to former mayors Soglin, Cieslewicz, Bauman, and Sensenbrenner. Speak out against crazy! To the Chamber’s Zach Brandon and Downtown Madison’s Jason Ilstrup, batter up! Journalists Marc Eisen, Dave Zweifel, and Kelly Lecker of the WI State Journal: speak truth to power! Mark Pocan, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, State Sen. Kelda Roys, and Fred Risser — quit leading from behind! Business leaders, reclaim your city!

To former alders Knox, Bigelow, Oncken, Bruer, and Golden; to former county execs Falk, Phelps, and Parisi: stand up for Madison!

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Conversed with a Madison progressive who serves on the Common Council. The alder ended our conversation by imploring your scribe to “Pray for Madison.” Tells you where we’re at in this town.

Madison deserves the ulta woke because they vote them in. Anytime you get someone not completely woke and somewhat fiscally restrained Progressive Dane, Freedom Inc. and other groups go on the attack and drive them out. I can’t wait until the woke Dems take over the state government and then we will become Illinois and don’t complain because you voted them in.

Speaking of Alder Glenn… I’ve got a suspicion she’ll be running for mayor next year…

Good observation. There will be a thundering herd of candidates.

You want a prayer? Here’s one: “Dear Lord Almighty, you once punished the perversions of the ungodly by raining down fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah. But that was a while ago. Surely Madison, Wisconsin has shown itself, time and time again, to deserve an equal measure of your divine wrath. I suggest you hurl the first thunderbolt at the City County Building while the Common Council is in session–once they’re brave enough to meet again in person. Amen.”
