Does Trump help or hurt Tiffany?

In November, when it counts!

Wisconsin Republicans don’t have many friends in the news media aside from Jessica McBride at Wisconsin Right Now. The obstreperous journalist is no shill. She dares ask whether Tom Tiffany should share a stage with the President Friday 06-05-26 for June Dairy Month in beautiful Chippewa County. Like all good questions, a bit heretical.

Wisconsin has never been that into Donald Trump. Republicans preferred Ted Cruz to Trump in the presidential primary of 2016. The state voted Joe Biden in 2020 and gave Trump the most narrow of victories among the seven swing states in 2024. Yeah, he beat Kamala Harris!

We, among many, have said Trump was unusually fortunate in his opponents. Wall Street Journal scribbler Holman Jenkins credits “The uncanny incompetence of his enemies, from James Comey in 2016 to Joe Biden in 2024.”

Mr. Trump’s presidency, even its useful accomplishments, owes all to the unnatural, self-sabotaging moronitude of his opponents.

The opinion columnist’s list of unworthies includes First Lady Jill Biden for demanding her increasingly senile husband seek a second term. Jill is the Edith Galt Wilson of our time.

Today’s national Marquette Law School poll finds only 38% of respondents support the President — his worst showing yet.

Even Hemingway needed an editor

Trump is pulling back on his $1.776 billion “lawfare” settlement fund after long overdue blowback from Republican senators. Their gag reflex was finally triggered when the President tried to reward the insurrectionists who attempted to overturn his 2020 election defeat. Responsible Republicans could have saved Trump from himself — and their own electoral skins — had they not waited for the man to turn up the outrage to a Spinal Tap eleven. Doling out taxpayer money to Proud Boys who bashed capitol police was just not a good look in an election year.

Does anyone think Los Angeles is a well run city? Can’t blame Republicans. Los Angeles burned while its mayor was in swanning in Africa. Or the state of California — like Illinois, losing population. What does it say about a state’s governance that we may never know who won its so-called jungle primary held Tuesday?

Even at that, Republicans Steve Hilton and sheriff Chad Bianco combined for only 39% of the vote against a sea of Democrats for governor as of noon today. (Eric Swalwell was still getting votes!) In L.A., Mayor Karen Bass was leading challenger Spencer Pratt.

That Democrats have any chance at all there is owing and due to fear and loathing of Donald Trump. Say what you will about the price of gas or even the war in Iran, his vindictive and petty narcism alienate otherwise persuadable voters. Score settling is not a good look on the playground or in the Oval Office. Pollsters never ask about that.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: RINOs or not, Jessica McBride and your irascible blogguer want Republicans to defeat the party of Woke socialism. This President seems to delight in stress testing his supporters for fealty with escalating outrages rather than baptizing new converts.

Maybe Trump could be encouraged to cancel Friday’s Wisconsin farm visit — something about Iran or snakes in the White House. There is precedent: Tammy Baldwin won re-election after blowing off Joe Biden’s post-debate visit to that Madison middle school.

Tom Tiffany will win his primary election (he has one) without Trump’s endorsement; November 3 is another question.

Who is MAGA going to vote for? Francesca Hong?

David, you are aiming at the wrong target. The question is not whether Trump helps or hurts Tiffany in November. The question is what kind of candidate wants Trump on his stage in the first place, and what the wanting tells us.

A man who can stand on his own record does not need to borrow another man’s rapidly dwindling crowd. Tiffany has held the Seventh for years. If he cannot draw a Chippewa County dairy lot on his own name during June Dairy Month, that is the story, not the Marquette numbers.

You remind us that Wisconsin was never that into Trump. Just so. Which makes a Wisconsin Republican who courts the endorsement anyway a tell. He is wagering that fealty travels better than independence. He is auditioning for the base instead of the state.

McBride asked whether Tiffany should share the stage. Fair. The sharper question is why he would want to. The candidates who chase the rally are the ones with nothing else in the cooler. The strong do not need the strongman.

Blaska’s friendly amendment: stop watching whether Trump shows up on Friday. Watch whether Tiffany asked him to. That answer is already in.
