‘Get the hell out!’
You may have read that the Commonwealth of Virginia (we thought it was a state) is embroiled in the mid-decade redistricting wars the President is waging to shore up his slim House majority. After Texas redrew its maps to give Republicans extra seats, Virginia tried to counter with districts favoring Democrats until its state supreme court suggested the legislature obey its own laws.
A radio squawker in Richmond, apparently sympathetic to Republicans, told House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries to “get your cotton-picking hands off of Virginia.” His guest in the booth that day was U.S. Rep. Jen Kiggans, a Republican. “That’s right,” she commented. “Ditto.” (We’ve appeared on talk radio here in Madison WI — hard to get a word in edgewise.)
For “That’s Right” and “Ditto,” Democrats are demanding that Rep. Kiggans join Eric Swalwell in the political wilderness. Here is House Democrat Caucus leader Pete Aguilar, who invokes Satan to make his point (two can play):
“This racist rhetoric is absolutely disqualifying from a Member of Congress. Rep. Kiggans must apologize then get the hell out of the House.”

Outrage from the readily offended
CNN was careful to explain that Democrat minority leader Jeffries is black and that slaves picked cotton in the antebellum South. Giving further oxygen to the story, CNN reports that it “has reached out to Kiggans’ office” as well as to the radio host, a man named Herrera for, one presumes, the usual denials, back tracking, recounting of minority friends, and appeals for a merciful death.
Grew up hearing the term, the Head Groundskeeper never imagined that his elders were code talking about cross burnings. Google A-I says:
“Cotton-picking” (or “cotton-pickin’”) is an American English, often old-fashioned, informal, and sometimes offensive, adjective used as a euphemism for “damned” or “confounded.” It functions as an intensifier to express annoyance, anger, or impatience.
The “sometimes offensive” is the recent wages of Woke along with “differently abled” for disabled, “unhoused” for homeless, “undocumented” for illegal aliens, and “Hakeem Jeffries” for race-baiting jackass.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Rep. Kiggans’ real problem is her political brand and timing — it’s the run-up to mid-term elections for control of the Congress. Democrats cheapen real racism with this kind of cheap gotcha but it is what they do when cornered! It defeated Democrats two years ago and should again.
What else should Hakeem Jeffries* keep his cotton pickin’ hands off of?
* and for that matter, Mark Pocan and A.O.C.
