Progressives need victims!
Mars needs women!
My former employer is saying the quiet part out loud: that the WI Institute for Law & Liberty is racist. The emeritus editor of The Capital Times accuses the pro-bono conservative law firm of “[using] anti-racist policies for a racist cause:”

With generous tax deductible funding from the right-wing Bradley Foundation of Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty — W.I.L.L. for short — has been successful in using those laws to allege discrimination against white people.
Note the whiff of partisan brimstone! (Not that The Capital Times doesn’t offload some of its profits tax free through its Evjue Foundation.) Emeritus editor Dave Zweifel damns Law & Liberty for demanding equal treatment under the law — as promised by the U.S. Constitution. The concept of equality instead of “equity” is an existential threat to the progressive/socialist enterprise — whose entrenchment into the bureaucracy, campuses, and media fuels the lucrative DEI industrial complex.
→ Democrats wanted to hide the DEI scam
Black robes or white?
The venerable Zweifel cites the 14th Amendment to support the left’s obsession with racial bean counting but gives away the game by correctly reporting that the measure “guarantees slaves freed by the Civil War their equal rights.” Equal rights — not equal outcomes. In June 2023, Students for Fair Admissions upended 60 years of affirmative action — the practice of favoring one race over another.
A benefit provided to some applicants but not to others necessarily advantages the former group at the expense of the latter. — Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard
In a competition for that last spot in the honors class, The Capital Times would pick Michael Jordan’s kid over the white kid whose grandfather worked the kill floor at Oscar Mayer. Treating black people as a monolith of hapless victims is today’s politically correct racism. It explains Gavin Newsom trying to ingratiate himself to a black audience by recounting his dyslexia. Get it? The white, millionaire governor is a victim, too!
Many universities have for too long … concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual’s identity is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned but the color of their skin. Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice. — Chief Justice Roberts
Blaska has some skin in this game. W.I.L.L. represented your irascible bloggeur in a lawsuit against the City of Madison for requiring minority races — but not white — as a requisite for membership on the Police Civilian Oversight Board. (We won!)

What would you say …?
If an argument could be made for affirmative action under LBJ does it still hold 60 years later? Or have race-based mandates been that ineffective? Name the high-tech Madison-area employer today that won’t hire the biochemist with dark skin. What high school principal doesn’t exult at the success of his Section 8 kids? How racist is metro Madison when it elects minority-race candidates out of proportion to their demographic?
Yet and still, between Dane County and the City of Madison, taxpayers spend $4.3 million/year on equal rights enforcement. Have alders or supervisors asked that Office Space question: What would you say you do here? (Answer appears to be sue each other.)
Blaska’s Bottom Line: can’t do better than Justice Roberts: “The way to end racial discrimination is to stop discriminating by race.”

“Woke racism from the Cap Times!!” Hold the presses. This just in: “Sun rises in east, sets in west!!!”
But seriously, folks, Chief Justice Roberts got it mostly right when in claiming that universities (and, he could have added, Democrats and their media lapdogs) assume that the touchstone of an individual’s identity is race. He should have expanded the list to include gender (not sex!) and sexual identity. That’s why Democrats are cheerleaders for “trans rights,” including the “right” of a twelve-year-old to have his/her genitals reconfigured with or without parental consent. I wish someone would explain the seemingly inherent contradiction between the left’s obsession with race and their contention that there’s no such thing as race (it’s all a social construct, don’t ya know). But explaining the contradictions in the left’s thinking would take us well beyond the word limit for postings on this illustrious bloggue.
Stupidity is only one word Gary, there I said for you. Thank you.
according to Dave Zweifel, everything to the political right of him is racist, so what else is new.
More manufactured outrage from well-to-do elitist leftists like Zweifel, Chrome Dome Paulie, and Comrade Nichols. I’m sure the Brandi Grayson types have a good laugh about the useful idiots at the Cap Times. Although those three are a slight improvement over Joel McNally, who once declared that employers should have no right to discriminate against felons in their hiring practices. You can’t make up that level of lunacy.
Ah yes, Joel McNally (RIP). A 1960s hippie trapped in amber.
