Why does Madison want to charge Monona for helping?
We’re in a bad place when your elected officials blame the police for crime. Welcome to Madison WI! As we related in a recent thrilling episode, Madison Alder Yanette Figueroa Cole wants to charge the City of Monona some unspecified large amount of dollars as punishment for apprehending an out-of-control driver that hit a Madison squad car and injured the police officer and his K-9 dog.

The addled alder admitted she was looking for an opening to stick it to Monona for not letting the bad guys just drive off into the sunset. Claims police pursuit is more dangerous than letting nut jobs terrorize the byways.
The SW Madison Common Council member is joined by Alders Derek Field, Sabrina Madison, Sean O’Brien, and Regina Vidaver — all reliable progressive votes for keeping the Independent Police Monitor on life support, voting against police body-worn cameras, and removing school resource police officers.
We thanked Monona Police Chief Brian Chaney, a former Madison PD captain, for helping keep Madison safe. Now Chief Chaney responds. (We excerpt with our emphases):

The Monona Police Department has been made aware of the recent resolution proposed in Madison seeking reimbursement for mutual aid responses from neighboring agencies. …
Just within the period of a year, from December 9, 2024 to December 9, 2025, the Monona Police Department responded 185 times to assist Madison or take primary calls for service. These incidents include high-risk calls such as shootings and homicides, to more frequent occurrences such as domestic disturbances, medical emergencies, injury crashes, K-9 requests, coverage assists, and other calls for service.
When lives are on the line, our officers do not hesitate. This was perhaps most evident during the tragic incident at Abundant Life Christian School, where MOPD [Monona] officers were among the very first police officers to enter the building. …
During the civil unrest that took place in Madison in 2020, Monona PD was one of the many departments that answered the call for mutual aid. … Our calls for assistance in Madison over the years equate to hundreds of personnel hours and thousands of dollars in resources. And in that time, the Monona Police Department has never submitted a bill for reimbursement. …
Madison and Monona indeed have certain operational differences — such as pursuit policies, body-worn camera implementation, and school resource officer programs. These differences should not be viewed as reasons to create division between our communities. …
Our officers will always respond when help is needed because that is what the public expects and what our law enforcement profession demands. We do so without reservation or fear of political consequence.

Blaska’s Bottom Line:The Capital Times, Democrats, Progressive Dane, the socialists, etc. will continue to endorse high-tax, social re-engineering police defunders like Ald. Figueroa Cole and her allies until someone brave and foolish challenges them in the Spring election. Just so long as it’s not The Wrong Guy.
J’ever notice how the champions of “diversity” stop singing kumbaya when faced with a diversity of opinion, like whether cops should pursue criminals, whether cops should help keep schools safe, or whether cops should have body cameras? It’s then they start bleating their usual accusations of racism. The last paragraph in Chief Chaney’s response expresses a position which no sane person would condemn and which no law enforcement official in Madison would dare to espouse.
This whole episode is so infuriating and typical of the uniparty that runs Dane County and its surrounding communities, principally Madison. Thank God we have some adults in the room running the City of Monona.
It’s enough to make a sensible person want to pull up stakes and get out of this insanity with county, city, and school district governance. Where is a safe haven from all of this?
Thank you for your much needed response. I would hope this response is reported in our progressive newspaper, the Wisconsin state journal, but I doubt that will happen. It seems to me Madison owes Monona for police services. Will anyone with common sense and interested in truly serving the citizens of the city and county run against this (these) alderperson(s)?
