Not weird after all!
They say vice presidential debates don’t move the needle. But J.D. Vance took some of the rough edges off the Republican ticket. Now, if they could only keep Donald Trump in the basement like Democrats did of Biden in 2020. (No, we did NOT go to Dane Manufacturing yesterday.) Win or lose this year, Sen. Vance can lay claim as Nikki Haley’s chief competition for the Republican nomination four years hence.
Calm, friendly, informed, compassionate, concise, and cogent in his answers, Vance did not demonize his opponent. No cheap shots, no name calling; generous, actually. Hellz bellz — J.D. Vance was/is actually SANE!
Didn’t glower throughout the 90 minutes, unlike the top of the ticket during his set-to a month ago. J.D. proved no need to insult when one has facts at his disposal. While still holding his ground. Tremendous up-from-bootstraps life story, Iraq military service, Ivy League education, self-made millionaire. A shame that J.D. had to bend the rules to introduce himself at the beginning of the debate because, as he noted, neither contestant is all that well known to America. Which gets us to our favorite rant, the self-defeating news media bias.
CBS fact checked Vance despite promising not to do so and cut his microphone when Vance pushed back with the facts, thereby demonstrating — live and in color — that the news media really is crooked, just like Trump claims.
In the opinion of the judges …
It was a very Midwestern debate: Was there a single insult in the entire 90 minutes? One bright spot in these sorry times. — Tunku Varadarajan, Wall Street Journal
For Vance, it was a commanding performance. For Walz, it was a nervous ramble. For the audience, it was the most civil and substantive debate of the Trump era,” — Ross Douthat, New York Times
JD Vance is a significantly more eloquent Donald Trump.” — Alyssa Farah Griffin, CNN
J.D. Vance is better than his ticket mate at one important job: He can squeeze Trumpism through his own post-liberal-populist tube and produce something that looks like a coherent ideology. … He brings a wholesome substance to their movement, like a bowl of leafy greens before the red-meat entrée. …. His willingness to do [take questions] sets him apart from Harris, who has mostly refused to grant interviews. — Elaine Godfrey in The Atlantic
Calm, dignified, civil, methodical intellectual to Trump’s bombastic unpredictability. So that gives voters confidence he’d be a rudder. — Wisconsin Right Now
You could watch Vance last night and tell yourself: “Gee, this guy is intelligent and pretty reasonable. He’s not as mean or extreme as they’ve been saying. He’ll be there by Trump’s side calming him down and moderating the craziness. I don’t have to follow Liz Cheney into supporting Harris, or even Mike Pence into staying home. I’m kind of reassured.” — former Republican William Kristol

Without deciding the merits, the City of Madison Ethics Board determined Tuesday night 10-01-24 that it did indeed have jurisdiction over the complaint from the Madison police union against Shadayra Kilfoy-Flores for attempting to bully police officers by threatening to use her official city government position. (“Do you know who she is?”)
About them Brewers. Joel Payamps always seems to disappoint. And we’re starting Frankie Montas tonight? In a make or break game? When a pitcher is going good, like Freddy Peralta was going good, you leave him in. You don’t save his arm in what is now a one and done season. Brandon Woodruff, can you go a few innings?
Blaska’s Bottom Line: It’s the damndest thing: Capital Times publisher Paul Fanland is up with a column today defending Kamala Harris and her refusal to do meaningful interviews. Can you say “in the tank?”

Vance is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Conservative pundit, George Will, labeled him progressive-lite. He is not a right-to-work supporter, but a union fan. He likes government regulation, especially from Lina Kahn, perhaps Biden’s most unlawful department heads. Her FTC dictates have been slapped down more than Trump at a sorority party. And Vance likes what she is doing! He allso likes tariffs, not free trade, which is very far from a conservative position! And he is an isolationist. No way would will he stand up to Putin, continue to support Israel or try to help Taiwan if needed. He is NOT conservative at all!!
WRONG!
“the City of Madison Ethics Board determined Tuesday night 10-01-24 that it did indeed have jurisdiction over the complaint from the Madison police union”
What does that mean?
The debate? Vance’ll be picking little pieces of Timmy AWOLz’ @$$ out of his boots for months to come, am I right?
Anywho, after getting caught with his pants down for his Tiananmen Square LIE, AWOLz’ attempt at a smile @~:38 (which hilariously failed to launch) reminded The Gotch of when Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy in FARGO) did the same thing after realizing he was getting painted into a corner by Frances McDormand’s Midwestern Nice Brainerd Chief of Police Marge Gunderson.
In both cases their reaction (however misguided) was to smile, and then a millisecond later realizing “WTF, my @$$ is getting nailed to the wall and I’m cracking a grin?”

Walz’s response was a word-salad extraordinaire, one that made even Kamala’s seem like a leaf of wilted lettuce.
The (heh!) burning question of who’s LESS qualified than Kacklin’ Kamala to be in the Oval Office has been answered!
The Gotch
answer; trump
“I grew up a middle aged kid” response has no merit. There is no substance in anything she says. Paul is a has been at a “paper” that might as well be called Pravda Jr. Simply, they are repeating the “Keep Joe in the basement” tactics of 2020. You can fool the die hard comrades with issues that have no solutions. Many people I’ve talked to simply aren’t voting period. The WSJ isn’t the paper it once was. It’s just another USA Today clone eith stock quotes. Urinalism as we knew it is disappearing and soon so will Paul.
Well, it was nice to see the WisStateJournal print an editorial from the (sane) WallStreetJournal last week. So, why did they finally print one condemning price controls? Because Trump proposed it. Kamala’s been touting price controls for two months now and nobody has questioned any of it. But Trump knows that stupid ideas have a lot of traction with voters, so just like Kamala stole his bad idea to not tax tips, he lifted her stupid plan to cap credit card interest rates. She wanted 15%, so he topped her at 10%! And it surely will work. As soon as they pass it (they won’t) your credit cards will get mysteriously canceled for no reason given. Now you don’t have to worry about getting ripped off with high interest rates on your short-term debt because you will have no short-term debt. At All. Just like demonizing the Pay Day Lenders and outlawing them. Your superiors are “helping” you by preventing you from paying high interest rates. They don’t understand that the people who use pay day loans, DON’T HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS. If they need critical medication they can’t afford, paying $15 for a one-week loan of $100, ain’t so bad, even if it is 780% annually. The question is, what are his alternatives? None. They believe removing alternatives will help him. Somehow.
You mentioned Fanlund’s column in the CT: In his desperate defense of Harris, he neglected to mention her disastrous interview with Lester Holt. When asked if she’d visited the border after being appointed border czar, she hemmed and hawed and then said she hadn’t visited Europe either (as if that meant anything), followed by her signature cackle. He also seemed indignant that the MSM would dare to suggest Harris had ANY weaknesses as a candidate, claiming that it was in thrall to “the need for balance,” which he pooh-poohs as “false equivalency.” It’s not enough, apparently, that the MSM blatantly favors Democrats; it must do so without exception.

Well; that didn’t take long. Civil, substantive, eloquent, dignified. Until he went to Michigan and started mocking Walz about his debate gaffe. On and on he went. Is the bromance over? Wallnau Lance and Vance said last week that Harris used witchcraft on trump that led to his terrible debate performance. Maybe Vance used that same witchcraft on Walz
Give it up Dick, Harris and Walz are toast. The anti-progressive movement continues to advance.
Am I the only one, here tonight
Shaking my head, and thinking something ain’t right
Is it just me? Am I losing my mind?
Am I standing on the edge of the end of time?
Am I the only one? Tell me I’m not
Who thinks that taking all the good we got
And turning it bad, hell I’ll be damned
I think I’m turning into my old man
Am I the only one, willing to bleed?
Take a bullet for being free
Screamin’, “What the fuck!” at my TV
For tellin’ me, yeah, are you tellin’ me?
That I’m the only one, willin’ to fight
For my love of the red and white
And the blue burning on the ground
Another statue coming down in a town near you
Watching the threads of Old Glory come undone
Am I the only one not brainwashed?
Making my way through the land of the lost
Who still gives a shit, and worries about his kids
As they try to undo all the things he did?
Am I the only one who can’t take no more?
Screaming, “If you don’t like it, there’s the fucking door”
This ain’t the freedom we have been fighting for
It was something more, yeah, it was something more
Am I the only one willing to fight
For my love of the red and white?
And the blue burning on the ground
Another statue coming down in a town near you
Watching the threads of Old Glory come undone
Not the only one
I can’t be the only one
Am I the only one who quits singing along
Every time they play a Springsteen song?
No Aaron, you are not the only one.
Oh frabjous day! Be still O beating heart of Squire! Kamala and Liz Cheney in Ripon Wisconsin to get Republican votes. The gods of irony are undone, parody is paralyzed.
They might as well go to Janesville and get Tim Ryan aboard to start the RINO Party.
JD Vance gets it, as does Trump. We, the people don’t trust the Republican Party.
You’re right. We should stop stating the obvious.
Heh!
The Gotch
Where is Vos in all this?
No snake oil in Vance’s assertions that:
– An energy policy that doesn’t emphasize nuclear power is unlikely to succeed
– Tim Walz believes in censorship
– More security is needed in schools to protect them from psychopaths
– Harris’ failure to secure the border is a disaster for an already strained housing market and law enforcement
– The economy was better off under Trump
– A Harris administration would throw Israel to the barbarians
Not surprising that Chrome Dome Paulie Fanlund will defend the indefensible to shill for Democrats. What is surprising is that his leftist propaganda rag continues to circle the toilet bowl despite being headquartered in the most leftist county in the state. And that’s good for a few laughs.
