Our favorite morning newspaper here in Madison WI reports that Donald Trump is trying to land somewhere in Dane County. We’ve been hearing for the past year that Republicans have to go bold or go home here in the Peoples Republic. That’s Bodoni bold!
“Republicans looking to speak up and turn out” is just what the doctor ordered. County GOP chairman Brandon Maly and veep Chrissy Ilgen deserve credit — so, too, my 2016 national convention hotel roommate Billie Johnson, now Second Congressional District Republican chairman. Tommy Thompson and Brian Schimming have been lobbying Trump to set foot here. If Trump alights anywhere it is likely to be the Alliant Energy Center Coliseum. Easily secured even by today’s Secret Service. (Cheap shot!) Probably won’t shake hands of football fans entering Camp Randall like Bill Proxmire.
We picture Trump dropping out of a space capsule and in full pressurized helmet and suit into Madison’s rarefied atmosphere. That’s one small step for Trump, one giant leap for Republicans.
The conundrum, in a county like Dane, does Trump stir up more Democrat hornets than Republican voters?

That’s our old family friend Jerry Bradley, a master farmer, on page one of the Wisconsin State Journal. His parents Jim and Char Bradley were good farm neighbors and co-conspirators of my parents, Jerome and Helen Blaska. All started life as Democrats but rural Sun Prairie became more Republican.
Jerry is no shrinking violet but even he worries about his family’s reputation, according to the news story. Helps that he and brother Mark do not sell their corn and soybeans at Madison’s downtown farmers market.
Will Madison’s famously intolerant progressives behave themselves if the Trumpster comes a-callin’? Put another way, how many American flags will burn? Which monuments will be defaced? How many statutes toppled? All of which elects Republicans every time.
When was the last one?
Trying to remember the last Republican presidential candidate to set foot in Madison. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan stopped in next-door Fitchburg GOP campaign headquarters in 2012, a very low key affair. We recall Bob Dole stepping off his plane at the airport, saying a few words, then flying off in 1996.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: We’ve commented before on the paucity of Republican yard signs. We now predict an effusion akin to an outbreak of dandelions in April. Now, if we could get some of these brave souls to run for local office! Here at the Manor, we’re adding an Eric Hovde sign. And maybe a sign like this:

Circus clown midget Maly can’t even put his clown shoes on the right foot. With Dane County voting blue at 82%, every 2 years they lose 4% more voters. Expect Dane County to go 86% for the Harri Balz team. Maybe Tramp should do the Coliseum. All day tailgate party with brats and sauerkraut. Maly could do some sideshow juggling tricks before the Main event. Can you imagine the press if they threw in some midget tossing in the act?
Maybe not Trump but I hear AOC is coming to town. Maybe we can get Bernie to come also.
Paucity of yard signs is not occurring in the hinterlands – much more so than 2020 and even 2016.
And the signs are HUUUUGEEE!
Trump only lost Wisconsin by about 10000 votes in a high turnout election with COVID stacked against him.
With the trusty yard sign indicator, I think the election will swing in Trump’s favor this time and hopefully bring Hovde over the finish line with do-nothing Tammy (even though she brags on TV about signing worker things with Trump)
Oh I forgot, Trump leads with the youths 48 to 46 at Notre Dame that hasn’t gone Republican in a long time and was 60-something to 20-something for Biden in 2020.
Maybe the youths will skip school and fill up at the Alliant Center lol

IMO, while many could be attributed to panicky Madison Lefties engaging in a Jussie Smollettesque Noble Lie kinda thingeys, it does represent a departure form 2016 & 2020 when there was an epidemic of Trump Sign Theft.
Even more encouraging? Neighborsnextdoor inquiries about where to acquire Kacklin’ Kamala Timmy AWOLz campaign signs are being answered not only with in the dump/dumpster from traditionally deep blue neighborhoods like Dudgeon-Monroe, Elvehjem, Orchard Ridge/Greentree, The Gotch’s own Midvale Heights, and (GASP!) For a memory marker of a GOP presidential candidate in Madison, I take you back to 1988 and a hotel on the far East side. It was a sunny spring Saturday morning. I was standing alongside staunch Republicans while having the time of my life. The presidential primary was nearing and Vice-President George Bush was sparring for votes with Senator Bob Dole. On the raised platform in the hotel stood George and Barbara Bush. I had never before been so close to a top elected offcial. Of course, many in the crowd were chatting about the woman who stood and smiled, waving at times here and there at people she recognized. It was following the address Bush made to the party faithful when people pressed forward and handshakes were given by the couple. It was a charged atmosphere.
