We’re stuck with him now, aren’t we

He really IS weird!

In Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask), Woody Allen ferreted out the cause of the buzz kill that was defusing his libido — a shaming, fundamentalist cleric hidden in his boiler room. The conservative media has located what is derailing the Republican ticket these days: its presidential nominee. Talk about buyer’s remorse!

The Wall Street Journal today is unsparing. “Will Trump blow another election?” Kamala/Walz are surging while running away from the failures of the last four years. What gives? The WSJ answers: “The problem is the candidate.”

The reality is that he has a ceiling of support that is below 50% because so many Americans dislike him. And now that he is in the news every day campaigning, he is reminding those voters why they didn’t vote to re-elect him in 2020. … His rally speeches are a bundle of personal grievances and impulsive floundering that drown out any consistent message against Vice President Harris. — “Will Trump blow another election?

→ Harris/Walz leads Trump/Vance nationally 52 to 48% — Marquette Law School Poll

Those rally speeches! Like the diatribe the man gave at the Milwaukee national convention. Interminable, narcissistic, angry — and increasingly unhinged. Attacking fellow Republicans, suggesting Kamala Harris hates Jews (she’s married to one), and isn’t black. This man is either mentally ill or incompetent.

 Leaders did not lead

Real leaders here in Wisconsin could have saved the party, could have joined the likes of Mike Gallagher, Paul Ryan, Reid Ribble, past party chairman Andrew Hitt and — we suspect, Robin Vos. But they needed to stare down the idiot caucus whose guru sells pillows on TV. At state convention, could have projected on the big screen vivid imagery of the January 6, 2001 assault on the Constitution that injured 140 Capitol police officers. Instead, our non-leaders pandered to flame throwers like Janel Brandtjen and Mike Gableman — the caucus that blames Nancy Pelosi for inviting the Proud Boys to hang Mike Pence.

Thanks to the Milwaukee nominee, we’re going to lose Derrick Van Orden and Eric Hovde, the House and the Senate with it, it sez here. Maybe one of Wisconsin’s legislative houses. Can the national ticket do a reset? Atlanta-based Erick Erickson chastises Trump supporters “who insist everyone needs to swallow their pride, stop complaining, and get on board.”

Plenty of voters want to be wooed and know, from a practical point of view, Trump needs them. They do not need him. He must persuade them. Bullying them will only make them stay home or vote for the opposition. — Erick Erickson

 ‘Hold your nose’

… and vote for him anyway is not a winning message. Unique in the annals of American elections, we have nominated a candidate who blame voters for his failures. Disagree and get called a RINO! Anyone think this 78-year-old man is even capable of a reset? He really IS weird.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Nikki was right. The first party to switch tired old horses in the middle of the stream wins. “This is still Mr. Trump’s election to lose,” the Wall Street Journal observes, “but, as we learned in 2020, he’s more than capable of doing it.” Can we invoke the 25th Amendment retroactively?

If Democrats can pull the old switcheroo,
why can’t Republicans?

Yeah. Donald Trump is unique in the anus of American elections.

It’s a damned shame there isn’t someone Trump respects unerringly who would supply him with Dutch Uncle advice similar to that offered by LBJ to then AL Governor George Wallace nearly 60 years ago:

George, you and I shouldn’t be thinking about 1965; we should be thinking about 1985. We’ll both be dead and gone then. Now, you got a lot of poor people down there in Alabama, a lot of ignorant people. A lot of people need jobs; a lot of people need a future. You could do a lot for them. Now, in 1985, George, what do you want left behind? Do you want a great big marble monument that says ‘George Wallace: He Built’? Or do you want a little piece of scrawny pine lying there along that hot caliche soil that says ‘George Wallace: He Hated‘?”

Regrettably, even were such a person were to exist, it just seems that (IMO) every fiber of his being rejects sound counsel.

You act like it’s over. Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

And Laura Ingrat thinks Milwaukee is in Minnesota and trump said the abortion issue is a nothing burger. Don’t worry the whole thing means nothing. I bet two pickles to your one tomato that within 30 days trump is going to lose what’s left of his mind and go completely off the rails.

One Eye: The Japanese Empire bombed Pearl Harbor on December 07, 1941. Not Germany.

I suggest you take a remedial world history course. Or did you think you were being cute?

Anon, you’ve never seen Animal House? HeyZeus Alou! Get thee to Spectrum On Demand!

          That you are; there’s more.

FUN FACT: Stork (Douglas Kenney) co-founded Hahvahd’s National Lampoon, and wrote and directed the (arguably) greatest Sports Movie of all time, Caddyshack

Thinking it was going to be a resounding flop, he mysteriously fell to HIS DEATH in Kauai in 1980.

Co-writer Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters, etc.): “Doug probably fell while he was looking for a place to jump.”

Anon, you have seen the epic, culturally significant films Caddyshack and Ghostbusters…haven’t you?

I have seen a lot of movies, Gotch, just not Animal House and Caddyshack, an omission easy to remedy. Am a huge Jack Nicholson fan.

Incidentally, Martin Short and Steve Martin will be performing at Overture Center on Oct 06. I plan to buy tickets.

Originally saw Caddyshack at a drive in, 1980.

Didn’t see Animal House until Reg week at UW-Madison in 1982. A screening put on at Carson Gulley I believe.

My now old self looks back and wonders what were they thinking.

Nicholson’s in a class by himself. Martin has some serious acting chops; he was highfreakin’larious in The Big Year and Leap Of Faith, both (IMO) must see flicks.
