Yet another perceived slight!
Scraping our favorite daily morning newsprint off the driveway this morning, the Head Groundskeeper was startled to learn that today is National Doughnut Day! And not a single Krispy Kreme in the larder at Stately Blaska Manor!
If there are any more special days, the Pope will have to add another month to the calendar. (Sell the naming rights.) Fathers Day is June 16. The entire month of June is Dairy Month, at least, here in Wisconsin. The month is also special to those who celebrate gayness. June is also National Rose Month (better than January, we suppose).
What Blaska did not know until this very day (like the Don finding out that it was Barzini all along) is that June is National Accordion Awareness Month. (Blaska takes no payola from the accordion lobby for this plug, although he would like to. We accept PayPal.)
Is any musical instrument more Wisconsin than the accordion? Wisconsin has an official dirt (Antigo silt loam), fossil (the trilobite), and dance (the polka). Now we ask, can you dance the polka without an accordion? Yet, Wisconsin has no official state musical instrument. We nominate the accordion, although the tuba cartel might go to the mattresses.
Hellz bellz, Wisconsin Public Television still broadcasts The Lawrence Welk Show, featuring the inimitable Myron Floren. Get past all the bland pastel suits and too-pretty, toothy look-alike boy/girl combos homogenizing Ray Charles. The Happy Norwegian was the best thing on the show! He’s real roots music (of the Midwest variety)! Let’s also pay tribute to Frankie Yankovic, the Polka King. (No, he is not the father of Al Yankovic, another accordion-ist.) And Steve Meisner.
Superior WI has a museum dedicated to the instrument. PBS Wisconsin did a special on the “Accordion Family.” The accordion is also big in Mexican tejano music and Louisiana Cajun zydeco.
Exploding synapses
→ The Republican legislature must authorize the Democrat(ic) governor to take over the Milwaukee school district and appoint a special master to take its schools away from the grifters.
→ Build new maximum security prisons in or near Waupun and Green Bay to replace the dysfunctional relics.
→ Pass this law: juvenile court records become public when the miscreant is first charged in criminal court as an adult.
→ NOW Biden is serious about the border. Not when he had Democrat majorities in Congress?
→ Why did Hunter Biden not take a plea deal rather than endure the daily, lurid embarrassments of a very public criminal trial?
→ We are so NOT going to Lake Geneva to see and hear a plague of noisy insects!
Blaska’s Bottom Line: We are a noncombatant on Gov. Evers’ decision to fly the gay pride flag over the WI State Capitol. We have bigger hills to die on. But it does invite consideration for other causes.

The definition of a true gentleman is a guy who knows how to play the accordion but chooses not to.
June has been recognized as Dairy month long before it was Gay Pride month. Why not fly a flag with a cow on it over the Capitol? Or better yet, get the legislature to pass a law stating that no flags other than the state or federal ones can be flown above any state government building. How long before the list of official victims exceeds the number of months in a year? It seems a new one emerges every few weeks.
