‘There is no accountability’
Months before voters narrowly approved $252 million in extra spending by Milwaukee public schools, the WI Department of Instruction was concerned that the state’s largest school district was cooking its books. DPI threatened to cut off its financial spigot after eight months of missing or misleading reports. A financial audit was due last December and an annual report has been pending since September. The monthly state aid payment for June would be around $16 million.
“The financial mismanagement at MPS is a disaster,” the left-wing Milwaukee Examiner concludes. (Ruth Coniff, formerly of The Progressive magazine, is its editor.) The salvo from Democrat-dominated DPI — an opponent of school choice — follows the federal government’s 30-day suspension of Head Start funding because kids were unsupervised and/or mistreated! Milwaukee’s school board is scheduled to meet tonight on the fate of Superintendent Keith Posley. Board members had intended to pass its 2024-25 budget on 05-30-24; now it has put that off until later this month.
→ UPDATE: The Milwaukee school board voted 7-0 at 2 a.m. this morning 05-04-24 to accept Posley’s resignation. More here.

WTMJ- radio asks “The biggest question voters had when a $252 million MPS referendum passed in April, was “Where is this money going?” This week we’re learning it’s apparently a question the state is also asking.”
MPS can’t get their finances in order and more than 80% of their kids can’t read at grade level. There’s no accountability. This is why we need to fund students, not systems. If a choice school fails to submit their financial reports, they’re kicked out of the program. — State Sen. Duey Stroebel
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Curiously, Supt. of Public Instruction Jill Underly has been MIA on this issue, leaving statements to her (ahem) underlings.

Whether he said it or not (The Gotch’s convinced he did), that unmistakably defines Lefty’s unerringly despicable approach to INDOCTRICATION: Keep ’em stupid, manipulable, and generationally dependent!

It reminds me of the “shovel ready jobs” of the Obama administration. Spend all this money and then later no one knows what it was spent on. It’s like California spending $24billion on the homeless and the people running the program have no idea where the money went. Covid money to MMSD or City of Madison should have to show what they spent the money on or be audited.
The real question is not DPI. It is not t administered by Underly. It is lead by a bunch of democratic operatives posing as educational leaders. What is the Education Governor going to do about this misuse of state and federal funds? Appoint a task force or fix the governance and reclaim the state funds for the other school districts? In many states the State Superintendent would step in. In our case that ain’t going to happen and would lead to more mayhem and no accountability. DPI is the root of the problem. This the second Milwaukee district that over spent and Underly is MIA.
As we said at work. “Only the faces change”.
