Dear mother, raised as an abstemious Methodist in southeastern Iowa in the 1930s and never trustful of her children’s Catholic nuns, blamed the campus unrest at the tear-gassed state university campus in Madison during the 1960s on “New York Jews.” Sixty years later, supposedly enlightened progressives are the ones blaming — and in some cases persecuting — Jews for responding to a genocidal attack.
New York Mayor Eric Adams identifies “outside agitators” as fine-tuning the protest at Columbia University into criminality. Professional agitator Lisa Fithian, age 63, is photographed tending to the occupiers at Hamilton Hall. Ms. Fithian is a veteran of Occupy Wall Street and the World Trade riots in Seattle. The title of her book, Shut It Down!, says it all.
The “outside agitator” meme is invoked to absolve — or, at least, mitigate — your tribe of accountability. That’s a cop out. Take illegal immigration on our southern border. (Henny Youngman: “Please!”) For the most part, Donald Trump has been proven correct. The injection of fentanyl into America’s bloodstream is a result. But a significant part of his appeal is demonizing “The Other.” Progressives guilt trip (verb, transitive) the color of your great-grandparents’ skin. Blaming amorphous, anonymous forces goes back to the Old Testament’s sacrificial lamb.
We’re not buying it. The professional organizer casts his seed on barren ground if our better schools were not such fertile hothouses for dumfukkery. (The Hamas occupiers at Hamilton Hall wanted Columbia University to feed them. “They want the revolution to be catered,” one wag told CNN.)
The better schools like Columbia, UW-Madison, and UCLA self-selected for these useful idiots. “These are the kids they wanted,” the essential Jonah Goldberg writes in The Dispatch. “Elite universities select precisely for the types of students causing mayhem right now.” Goldberg quotes this course description at Columbia:
We will draw heavily on the works of feminist scholars like bell hooks [sic], Judith Butler, Kimberle Crenshaw, and Peggy Phelan to discuss movements such as ACT UP, Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, #MeToo. Equally, we will look at histories of student activism such as the 1968 Morningside Park gym construction, campus anti-apartheid actions …
“Just look at what counts as activism and social movements,” Goldberg marvels. “There’s no mention of, say, the Tea Parties or the National Union of Social Justice. It’s all movements the left considers to be noble, heroic, and committed to their vision of social justice.”

The local campus offers a three-credit course on “Global Hip-hop and Social Justice.”
Discussions will develop familiarity with important concepts in Black studies and social theory such as race and colonialism, imperialism and hegemony, structure and agency, identity and strategic essentialism. Consider the race/class/gender dimensions of weekly topics, acquire a broader familiarity with HipHop activism, and develop new conceptual tools and critical thinking skills.
It is not happenstance that the gendarmerie took one Sami Schalk down to the ground on Library Mall Wednesday 05-01-24. Professor Schalk’s Department of Gender and Women’s Studies teaches (as one example): “Introductions to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ Studies.” The notorious booty twerker claims to have been roughly handled, which has got to be a course requirement in Ms. Fithian’s handbook.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: We could be wrong. Might be that the denizens of the University of Hamas-Tent City are dairy science majors and that life is like a box of chocolates, but without the chocolate.

The cop out of the “outside agitator”! Where have I heard that before? 1/6 comes to mind. It was the Dems, antifa, FBI, the Easter bunny, BLM. Everyone else were only tourists. They just happened to be there on an AARP bus trip. After watching the usual line up of talking heads it’s clear that the right really doesn’t give a soggy fart about Gaza. They are very concerned about dragging Biden over the coals for the cameras. The only one getting screwed over is Moscow Marj. The protests are getting in the way of her going to war with Mr. Speaker. That outrage DuJour will need to wait till next week.
