Denied!

Donald Trump did not invent election denialism. Kari Lake of Arizona, Loren Boebert of Colorado, and Janel Brandtjen of Menomonee Falls WI are not the only sore losers.

Used with permission

Don’t let the Janel Brandtjen wing do this to the Wisconsin GOP!

The Michigan Republican Party — now dominated by its right flank staunchly aligned with former President Donald Trumphas descended into chaos. It can barely fundraise and has all but gone broke. State lawmakers have taken to raising money on their own, unable to rely on the party at a time when Republicans are seeking to reclaim a majority in the state legislature and prepare for the 2024 election in Michigan, a crucial presidential swing state. …

The statewide party organization has embraced conspiracy theories and far-right political views. Kristina Karamo … was elected chair of the state party in February, running on a platform that included denying the 2020 election results. Karamo ran for secretary of state in 2022 with backing from Trump. She lost by a double-digit margin but refused to concede the race.Wall Street Journal

Trump himself would not have won the presidency in 2016 without Russian collusion, many Democrats continue to insist. Never mind that recount after recount showed George W. Bush winning Florida in 2000. Al Gore, the bitter enders insist, was defeated only by a partisan Supreme Court.

Barton Swaim in the Wall Street Journal recalls that Democrats blamed racism on Nixon’s victory in 1968 — his supposed “southern strategy.” They’ve never admitted that fellow Democrat George Wallace, governor of Alabama, siphoned his votes from Hubert Humphrey.

Reagan is also supposed to have benefited from a southern strategy. Racism is the dog whistle progressives use when forced to address public safety. Willie Horton in the 1988 contest perfectly illustrated that Democrat(ic) dyslexia. Mike Dukakis released the murderer from prison for a weekend “furlough,” during which he committed rape. What joy arose in Democrat(ic) hearts when they learned the perp had dark skin! Proving to our progressive … acquaintances once again that American voters are not wearied by liberal foolishness — they’re RACIST! Stacey Abrams has yet to concede her loss in the Georgia governor’s race — five years ago.

[ADDED 08-18-23: House Jan. 6 Committee chairman, Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), supported the challenge to the certification of the 2004 election results. His fellow committee member, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), sought to challenge Trump’s certification in 2016. (h/t Jonathan Turley)]

Here in Wisconsin, it is virtually written into the Democrat(ic) party platform that Republicans control the WI state legislature only because of gerrymandering most foul.

This overwrought hyperbole from the party’s Madison mouthpiece is but one example: “Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is a scared and desperate man. He knows that the Republican legislative majorities that allow him to remain in power are not based on popular support, but rather on radical gerrymandering.” (Fact is, even the maps Democrat(ic) Gov. Tony Evers proposed gave Republicans a healthy majority. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the Democrats’ map for racial gerrymandering.) (And for the record, Robin Vos is more likely amused than frightened.)

"All work has dignity and value. Not cops, though.” — Ryan Clancy, Democrat.

The real reason Democrats are in the minority

A Milwaukee Democrat, State Rep. Ryan Clancy, just called police officers “inane” and “clueless.” For good measure, he said jobs in law enforcement “have neither dignity nor value.”

“Their profession is deeply rooted in systemic racism and classism, and there’s no 20-hour training course that will change that,” Clancy said. “We really need to look at alternatives to policing in a serious way. And I think the most important of those is investing in our community in a way that reduces crime in a way that policing never, never can and never will.”

— State Rep. Ryan Clancy, D-Milwaukee

Assembly Democrats put Clancy on the Committee on Corrections. He is also a Milwaukee County supervisor.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Democrats are trying to lose — and trying hard! Why won’t we Republicans let them? (!!!)

News flash 2: racism no longer exists, and neither did the Republican southern strategy.

When schools perform poorly, strip their budget. When police perform poorly, increase their budget. Have any of you checked out the clearance rates lately?

Maybe you should express your views on “fatherlessness to Rejani Raveendran. She’s the 40-year-old single mother of three that wants to run against Tammy Baldwin. Post your thoughts on her website. I bet you will get some interesting feedback.

She’s divorced, a domestic abuse survivor. She’s also very conservative.
I’d love to hear her perspective on the epidemic of single mothers in our most vulnerable communities. Would also like to hear what she thinks about arranged marriages.

Why not let taxpayers choose to divert our tax dollars to a charter police department when our local department underperforms?

      1. One Eye Avatar
        One Eye

How exactly would that work? My first thought is you would need a charter judicial system to go along with it. Lots of other logistical problems compared to us having charter schools, which seems to be the comparison you’re making.

        1. Rollie Avatar

The purpose is public safety, not public police departments… I’m just imagining, highlighting how different public service agencies are treated differently when they perform poorly.

But logistically it could work if we wanted it to. I could choose to have the charter PD investigate my allegations and bring a case to the DA. Departments could get funded based on caseload and clearance rates. The free market would drive better quality… wouldn’t it?

911 response could work in a similar way as it does already for the private ambulance companies. Or even 911 could be part of the new charter PDs – I’d call my preferred emergency dispatch. Let the public sector compete to drive up quality, as they say.

We could have charter DAs too. Why should the County have a monopoly on prosecuting criminal charges? They don’t have a great success rate either. Why can’t I have a choice in the lawyer that will get my tax money to prosecute a crime I was the victim of?

Being that Rs are in the pocket of the police unions’ monopoly they’d never go for this 😉 come on Rs – we’re supposed to be freeing workers from the tyranny of unions! Act 10 left them behind!

In seriousness, I’m against charter PDs for the same reasons as I’m against charter schools. I think the “poor performance” of both entities are due to factors mostly outside their control.

Perhaps the reason they’re treated differently is because of their historical success rates and stewardship of taxpayer money. Police spending as a percentage of GDP has been largely flat for the last 25 years, and a few bad apples aside, they do well when they’re allowed to do their jobs. When they aren’t, we get CHAZ zones, rampant robberies, uncontested rioting, and occupation of State Street for weeks on end. Public education spending as a percentage of GDP has increased about 1.5 points over the same time, but average competency of US students in subjects that matter has shown no improvement amidst other developed nations. Math competency dropped for the first time ever over the last three years and reading comprehension took the biggest dive it had seen in decades. COVID certainly didn’t help, but neither did education policies on putting kids in actual classrooms when it was clearly safe to do so.

When throwing money at a problem doesn’t solve it, we shouldn’t be surprised when people look for other options.

A common theme after someone highlights the crass things you say is “But there existed another person who said the same thing.” That excuse never worked when I was a kid, maybe you were raised differently.

And, ah! Metaphors! If you would have discussed how flammable Clancy’s house might be, I’m sure that would be a metaphor. Maybe you’d wonder how much better off the world would be if he happens to somehow die, I’m sure that would also be a metaphor. Political differences are best discussed through poetry, after all.
