Trump used mail-in voting to scapegoat the defeat he knew was coming

All that election year, polls showed Trump losing!

Politico has the best short synopsis of Donald Trump’s plan to steal an election he clearly lost and for which he will soon be criminally indicted. A fair-use excerpt:

Trump rejected advice from his own allies, like campaign manager Bill Stepien and House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy, to embrace mail-in voting as a way to drive turnout among his supporters. Instead, he set up mail ballots to be a scapegoat for his possible defeat.

In tandem with this effort was Trump’s plan, which he telegraphed to advisers, that he would declare victory on election nightwhen interim results were likely to be tilted in his favor due to delays in counting mail-in ballotseven though large shifts toward Joe Biden were anticipated as all votes were tallied in the days following the election.” …

Despite being rebuffed in the courts, wild conspiracies proliferated in pro-Trump circles. Figures like Sidney Powell … promoted the false notion that election machines made by Dominion Voting Systems had been manipulated by foreign governments to tip the election toward Biden.

— “A big lie, an attack on the Capitol — and soon, another indictment”

Trump knew he was losing

What Politico does not report is that as early as March 2020 — eight months before Election Day — public opinion polling showed Trump losing decisively. The man needed a scapegoat and Whack-a-Mole conspiracy theories — jiggered voting machines, Jewish laser beams, Hugo Chavez, mysterious bags of ballots, nursing homes, and cell phone pings. All, disproven, one by one. (“2000 Mules but no evidence.”) But the most enduring conspiracy entailed the early, mail-in ballots triggered by the Covid epidemic.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Trump’s bitter enders are resisting the Republican party’s about-face on early, mail-in voting. They want to fire ball and cap at an enemy flying F-35s. As WI Republican Party chairman Brian Schimming says, “We can’t keep walking into Election Day 100,000-200,000 votes down and expect we’re going to make it up in 13 hours between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.”

For our RITO friends who believe January 6 was a guided AARP bus tour, embracing early voting would pull the carpet from under their favorite boogeyman and undermine their cult-like belief in the One True Savior.

Or are you tired of winning?

To my delight and relief, your case of TDS had seemed in remission a coupla days ago, Mr. Blaska, but now has been raging once again. Nothing to see here, ehh, regarding the USD $500 million (!) that the lovely Zuckerberg couple contributed —apparently 501(c)3 deductible so it was on my nickle as a taxpayer— to a range carefully-chosen Democrat recipient players in order to “fortify the election”. Please move along, nothing to see here. Just another example of Orangeman Bad’s paranoia and moral deficiency.

Gotta wonder how the Squire will handle it, should Trump be the GOP pick for CIC again.

I pledge to leave the presidential ballot blank if Trump is the nominee. You want to nominate the man, know that ahead of time because I am not the only one.

Don’t get too far ahead of yourself. Dem nominee will not be Biden.

I’m with you on this. Can’t vote for Biden or Trump.

Might I suggest, with all respect, Alan, is that it is you who are suffering Trump derangement. All you’re tell me is that the Democrats played it smarter than we did. But not illegally. Private funding of elections should be illegal and WI Republican legislators tried to outlaw it after the fact but Evers vetoed. We can complain about being outplayed on that and early voting but we still lost. And I voted the bastard in 2020.

OK, fair enough, but why virtue signal us out here with your stunningly brave decision to leave your presidential electoral line blank in the 2024 ballot?

To encourage others to do so to forestall nominating a seditionist.

I see that Ray Epps is finally going to be charged. Now wonder if he will suicide or be a victim of freak accident. I’ll predict now… he accidentally shoots himself whilst cleaning his gun (2 in the chest, 1 in the head).

I haven’t been around here much, mostly because I’ve long grown weary of Blaska’s obsession with Trump. But the other thing is the running byplay between the Gotch and Lesiak. A little of it goes a long way. None of it would be better.
