Daddy Warbucks finances Democrats

Virtue washing?

Progressives and socialists like to pillory Republicans as the party of billionaires. It’s the old class warfare gig perfected by Karl Marx, a stereotype that is older than Joe Biden and more outdated than the minimum wage.

Nibbling at the ankles of Robin Vos, Comrade Nichols portrayed the speaker of the state Assembly as a Pavlov dog, bow-wowing “to the demands of the billionaires who fund GOP campaigns.” Beats actually discussing the merits of an issue.

Which is why we draw the attention of the peanut gallery to an exposé from Dan Bice at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“Once again, the state Democratic Party has swamped its Republican counterparts the all-important fund-raising game in the first half of the year,” Bice reports.

Records show the Democratic Party raised $22.7 million in its state and federal accounts since the beginning of the year, compared with just $3.6 million for the state GOP — a ratio of more than $6 to $1. But you won’t hear Democrats squawking about their biggest donor in 2023. Here’s why:

The mega-Democratic donor is Reid Hoffman, the billionaire founder of LinkedIn, who has past ties to deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein . … Hoffman was among those who visited Epstein’s private Caribbean island … six years after the American financier pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution of a minor and registered as a sex offender, recruiting dozens of teenage girls, some as young as 14, to engage in sex acts.

Records show Hoffman made four donations totaling nearly $3.6 million to Wisconsin Democrats since Jan. 30, almost as much as Wisconsin Republicans received in total in the past six months.

Other billionaire benefactors like George Soros donated $1 million the state Democrats, as did Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Tulsa philanthropists Stacy and Lynn Schusterman made four donations in March totaling $1 million, Bice reports. Last we heard, billionaires Jeff Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, and Bill Gates were not exactly MAGA. Nor the Lasrys of the Milwaukee Bucks.

“The commanding heights of the U.S. economyWall Street and, especially, Silicon Valley — are now much more progressive-leaning and Democrat-friendly than they used to be, and they are not at all bastions of conservative orthodoxy or Republican partisanship,” National Review observes.

Blaska’s Bottom LineDid we mention the accused crypto-fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried, who poured $40 million into Democrats running for Congress in 2022?

Are all billionaires evil
or just the ones we don’t like?

Makes sense as linkedin is just bullshit signalling and that is the wheelhouse for Democrats.

My billionaires of choice are Elon Musk and Marc Andreessen. Not sure where their political donations go.

What happened to the guy the media always interviewed here that wanted money out of politics? I haven’t heard a peep out of him since Democrats have been raking in the donations. I think he also wanted the government to pay for the campaigns.

Seems to me the larger point is why we’re allowing billionaires, of any stripe, to finance our political system/politicians. Doesn’t appear to be getting us any better candidates. Just sayin’. 🙂

“Allowing”? Are you acquainted with the First Amendment?

Okay, how about the finest politicians money can buy? One must wonder how the founding fathers would regard our current communication environment. Wonder if the original it’s do? Our current Communications of Mass Information bear little resemblance to the town criers and poster printers of old. But I get your point. Any infringement is bad. 😉

The 1st amendment citation is an extremely novel and recent interpretation of the amendment. Corporations ain’t people. Therefore they can’t speak.

What’s the difference between Democrats and Republicans? Republicans bend over backwards for Big Business. Democrats bend over backwards. And we all get screwed.

    Sorry, f’ed up my joke:
What’s the difference between Democrats and Republicans? Republicans bend over backwards for Big Business, Democrats bend over forwards. And Ben Dover is running the show.
