June days are dwindling down to a precious few, as the song would have it. A whole month devoted to Pride of a different sort or, Blaska touches the third rail a second day in a row.
It plays in Sheboygan
Uptight show biz people once asked whether it would Play In Peoria. Sheboygan is Wisconsin’s Peoria, still famed for bratwursts, that quintessential Wisconsin health food. Blue collar, religious, still industrial, roughly midway between Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. In other words, it ain’t San Francisco or the Peoples Republic of Madison. But its very name — She-Boy-gan — captures the gender dysphoria now gripping the culture.
She-Boy-gan held a Pride Picnic Saturday 06-24-23. It was widely publicized in the local news media, which advised that the day also would include family-friendly activities hosted by the Boys and Girls Clubs, among others. The Werkes, not having witnessed, cannot assess whether the featured drag performances were also family-friendly. One does appreciate the word play of the performers’ names: Degrassi Noll, Lucinda Reer, Amethyst Von Trollenberg, Romeo Suave, Anya Knees (MF?), Omega, and Iconika Strange. At least there is some acknowledgement of strangeness. Mayor Ryan Sorenson, at age 29 the youngest mayor in the state, read a proclamation and posed with what once — in the bad old days — would have been political career killers.

Within many of our most crucial institutions, suppositions that would have been considered the height of lunacy even a few years ago have become regnant overnight. The good-faith objections of good-faith people are transmuted into “bigotry” or “hatred” and used as an excuse for cancellation, exile, or worse.

We remember Linda Lord asking, 50 years ago on Algoma Boulevard on the UW-Oshkosh campus, if Blaska believed in Women’s Liberation. The concept might have been featured in Time, or maybe Newsweek, when those weekly magazines moved the culture and to which every fourth college student subscribed. We admitted then, we hadn’t much thought about it. Linda would succeed Blaska as editor of the campus newspaper and the lovely lady moved on to become official ombudsman for the State of Alaska. Blaska, meanwhile, merely moved on. As I review my career (such that it was) at least half my superiors were of the female persuasion. Also, my wife kept her last name, even though it is clogged with C’s, Z’s, and K’s and — pronounced properly — sounds like a horse sneezing.
Is nothing true any more? Every other President since Nixon has defiled the Presidency. The Church is reeling from sexual abuse. Hollywood sold out. Elections are stolen or they are not. The news media lies. Police are defunded by the left; the FBI is distrusted by the right. The Supreme Court — Wisconsin and federal — are embattled. Scientific inquiry has degenerated into Don’t Question the Science orthodoxy. Our schools teach hate. Heroes like Bill Cosby, Lance Armstrong, and Charlie Rose became villains. Men are women and women are men.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: is O.K. with committed gay couples, mixed-race marriages, and Democrats. We do not pry into bedroom windows. So why are we troubled by the transexual movement (one of the letters of the LGBTQ+ alphabet)?

My first email of the morning contained your latest offering. Nice play on words there. Thanks for your context to a very perplexing phenomenon that has really caught “normies” on our back foot with its pervasive, noxious and aggressive agenda. God save us; we’re in the soup!
I’m climbing up on my soap box in the public square to preach to the masses.
Personally, like other lifestyle choices, I just don’t give a damn what these trans people choose to do to their bodies or what they choose as a lifestyle. If they want to act like absurd fools in public, that too is their choice.
As with most 21st century public protest marches, like the pride trans marches, the participants are intentionally trying to bait their opposition into reacting in negative ways so they can socially condemn them.
Don’t bite.
Those that are “trans” are clearly abnormal (read the link I just provided so you know what I mean when I write abnormal) but many of the trans community appear to be narcissistic psychological freaks that choose to mutilate their bodies and many dress up like overly emphasized cartoonish caricatures of the opposite sex. In my opinion, self mutilation is their choice, their consequences and I refuse to pay one cent out of my pocket towards their self mutilation obsession (I’m also opposed to paying for voluntary cosmetic surgery) via insurance or any other social or government subsidized support program that psychologically or financially enables self mutilation. They can do whatever they want to their bodies but they have to do it on their own dime, they have absolutely no right to the dollars in my pocket to satisfy their absurd abnormal obsessions.
Activist parents supporting the trans community that choose to take their impressionable youth to “trans” events are intentionally trying to psychologically manipulate their children into seeing abnormal behaviors as normal behaviors. These parents are fools and their activism will likely back-fire in the long run. Tolerance is one thing, indoctrination is quite another.
Trans persons intentionally exposing their abnormal behaviors to children as if their behavior is “normal” is the epitome of indoctrination.
Critically thinking parents should try to avoid exposing their children to these abnormal trans people until the children are clearly mature enough to understand that trans persons are not normal and some appear to be narcissistic psychological freaks that mutilate their natural bodies.
My public square soapbox sermon is complete.
On the one hand, this gets my libertarian juices going. Think about the masses who hee-hawed when Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis cross-dressed in Some Like It Hot, a theme repeated ad infinitum in art (where escapism goes to get a pass), and down through the centuries, running rife through Shakespeare.
I suspect that the very thing that tickles folks’ gullets is the very fact that it naughtily transgresses societal henpecked norms.
So loosen up Dave, which is where your unstated comments suggests you’re tottering already, and, if you can’t (which is just fine, too), let others who can have their fun.
On the other, taking this fun to the limit ignores Harvey Milk’s prescient admonition to the gay community from 50 years ago for everyone to come out, and let the world see that gays were their neighbors, their firefighters, their teachers, so that their world would be normalized by regular folks, instead of seen as The Other — in order that the stigma that kept so many gays closeted in fear for so many centuries would finally fall away. The conservative Supreme Court’s Obergefell decision in 2015, by which time popular support for gay marriage had flipped from 2 to 1 against to 2 to 1 in support, seemed to vindicate Harvey’s acumen.
Sit stultus cavet.

Yet more evidence of the irreversible degradation of what used to be called American culture, courtesy of identity politics. My estimate is that 95% of “trans” people are trans because it’s the latest cool thing, that it shows how progressive and hip and utterly unique you are as a human being–just like all those people who believe that dying your hair purple and getting a nose ring instantly guarantees you a one-of-a-kind “identity.” And woe befall anyone who points out that your identity is the product of leftist brainwashing and is about as unique as one of the ants in that anthill in your back yard.
And then there’s the parents–well, the kind one finds in the more affluent neighborhoods in Madison, for example. Remember a few years ago how these people would scour the underdeveloped parts of the world for a black (much the preferred model) or brown or yellow baby to adopt? Then that fashion faded, to be replaced by having a kid with a mental defect (autism being the preferred model)? Now it’s de rigueur, in this crowd, to have a trans kid. Can’t wait to see what the next model will be.
