The President is siding with Republicans who want to nullify the City of Washington’s attempt to dumb down criminal prosecution. Congress can do that because, ultimately, it controls the District of Columbia. The city council wants to eliminate most mandatory sentences and reduce penalties for violent offenses such as carjackings and robberies. Trial by jury for … misdemeanors! This, only weeks after a member of Congress was assaulted in the city.

No less than James Madison himself, in Federalist No. 43, demanded the “indispensable necessity of complete authority at the seat of government” lest “its proceedings be interrupted with impunity.” He remembered that, in 1783, revolutionary war soldiers attacked the Continental Congress in Philadelphia demanding back pay. The governor of Pennsylvania refused to intervene. (But then, so did Tr•mp.)

Doing their cause no favors

As if on cue, over 100 Leftists changed into black clothing and attacked a police and fire training center being constructed outside Atlanta on Sunday 03-05-23. They threw rocks, bricks, and molotov cocktails at police defending the site. (Will Joy Reid find her own Ray Epps?)

Twenty-three of these idiots were arrested for domestic terrorism. Only two list Georgia as their home state. Two are from Wisconsin — apparently Madison, as far as we can determine. Atlanta Police give their names as Grace Martin, age 22, and Kayley Meissner, age 19. Others are from all over the U.S. — Canada, even France. One of them, Thomas Webb Jurgens, is an attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center.

To Fox News, the attorney general of Georgia described those arrested as part of a “national network, an international group of people that are organized to come to our state to undermine a public safety training center.” 

Demonstrations at the 85-acre property in DeKalb County secured for a $90 million police and fire training facility have been going on for months. Sunday’s incident marked a “significant escalation” both in the level of violence and the number of individuals involved in the attack.

They want untrained cops?

Heather Mac Donald makes the case that Memphis TN, struggling with an attrition of police officers, scraped the bottom of the barrel to hire the poorly qualified culprits responsible for killing Tyre Nichols.

The Nichols beating is not the product of racism; it is the tragic culmination of the very narrative being offered to explain that beating. The idea that policing is racist, both in its treatment of black suspects and in its hiring of black officers, has led to manpower loss, a lowering of standards, and a drop in proactive enforcement. The resulting increase in crime then puts more downward pressure on hiring standards in order to try to replenish the depleted ranks. Unable to compensate for officer attrition, police departments are left without enough well-trained sergeants and lieutenants to supervise officers who maybe should never have been hired in the first place.

Since 2014, Black Lives Matter agitation has decimated police ranks and driven away potential applicants who do not want to be presumed racist from their first day on the job.
