They chase the bright, elusive butterfly of diversity

🎵 ‘You might wake up some morning’ …🎶

… Feeling guilty as hell if you’re a UW-Madison student.  Or if your kid is taught by one. The diversity/inclusion/equity industrial complex wants our help! Well, maybe it wants YOUR ideas. Probably not mine.

Crawling like creeping charlie through the sprawling University of Wisconsin’s Madison campus is something called the Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement. This mouthful of an agency is holding its annual Diversity Forum this November 14 and 15 at Union South. (First we heard about these guilt-fests, too.)

They’re looking for topics for their Diversity Forum’s breakout sessions. (Proposals are due 07-18-22.) Gives as an example one conducted last year: A Rubric for Anti-Racism in Campus Units; “How are we perpetuating racism and oppression right here in our workplace, and what can we do to change that?” Notice how it is assumed as fact that “we” are perpetuating racism and oppression Right Here in River City! The only questions are 1) How are we doing it? and 2) What are we going to do about it? To the second question, we’re guessing that attending the Diversity Forum as a kind of penance will scrub 400 years off your sentence in Woke Purgatory.

🎵 ‘You might have heard their footsteps’ 🎶

Which is why the Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement employs nine honchos at the vice provost and vice chancellor level. Plus 17 more “campus diversity representatives” — many associate and assistant deans — who are “embedded in every school, college, and division. … These point persons work with their administrative leaders, faculty and staff to address issues of climate in the classroom and workplace.”

→ In other words, who’s using the correct pronouns in progressive land.

Wish we could attach some dollar figures on how much our flagship public university spends ferreting out implicit racism, countering white privilege, and mining new pockets of oppressed minorities.

🎵 They might even have called your name! 🎶

The journalists at The College Fix asked but reports the university “has denied a request to disclose its diversity spending figures, citing the task as overly broad and ‘burdensome.’ ” College Fix guesses that the university has spent millions of dollars chasing the illusory butterfly of Equity. Can State Sen. Steve Nass please compel answers? It’s OUR tax dollars.

→ 🎵 It’s only them pursuing somethin‘ they’re not sure of/ Across fevered dreams with nets of wonder. 🎶

After six years of thought policing, “Students of color, students with disabilities, non-binary students, trans-gender students, and other LGBTQ+ students responded less positively than their counterparts” when rating whether they feel welcome, safe and respected, according to the results of a recent campus climate survey. Quick! More Diversity Forums!

Blaska’s Bottom Line: 🎵 DO be concerned, identity politics may well harm you! 🎶 Could it be that teaching  grievance produces grievance?

What’s YOUR idea for a breakout session?

Rhetorical question aside, you’re on to something, there.

Medical Student’s Disease (also known as second year syndrome or intern’s syndrome [not to be confused with Blue Dress Splotch Disorder]) is a condition frequently reported in medical students, who perceive themselves to be experiencing the symptoms of a disease that they are studying.”

Why would Diversity Inclusion Equity (or its deliciously appropriate acronym) be any different?

Will they address black on Asian hate?

For that matter, will they finally remove all railroad tracks that run through campus? As you all know they are a painful reminder of the exploited Chinese workers who built the transcontinental railroad.

How can I get a cushy DEI Dean/Vice Prevost appointment? No doubt it’s 6 figures plus great benefits, i.e. 6 weeks of paid time off plus sick leave and retirement benefits..plus trips to these b.s. conferences to dream up other “grivences”

    Yet the UW cries poverty.

Your property will need to be smothered in all manner of Gosh I’m Nice/Look At Me/I’m Dialed In virtue-signaling signs AND numerous boxes will require checking in order to even be considered.

If any of those boxes happen to indicate Y-Chromosomal/Cis-gender/EVIL Whitey/Judeo-Christian/Two-Parent family advocate, fuggeddaboudit!

If your career goal is to become a college administrator, the only way you’ll snag the cushiest position is by having (or identify with) the right race, gender and sexual orientation. Oh, and it helps to be able to avoid looking at yourself in the mirror.

As for the UW crying poverty, how come they can find $50,000 (admittedly pocket change for them) to relocate a racist rock?

Off topic, but I see the Wisconsin Supreme Court has ruled that absentee ballot drop boxes are indeed illegal. The evidence keeps mounting about the 2020 election…

Off topic as hell! The court ruled the ballot drop boxes were illegal. The court did not rule that the ballots were anything but cast by actual, qualified voters who were told — through no fault of their own — they could drop off their ballots at these boxes.

Right. But pushed through largely by Democrats as one of several stategies to tip the election.

Once again WILL raises it’s ugly head. Coupled with Bradley’s crazy conspiracy riddled decision the voters of Wisconsin get the short end of the stick. It’s amazing that these people believe that only Democrats used these drop boxes. ALL voters are going to pay the price for this ruling. What “evidence” is mounting Kooter? Facts please; not some right-wing BS.

I’m sure I’ll regret this as Dick doesnt like facts, but I’ll bite: illegal drop boxes, mail-in voting, last minute changes to voter verification process, not allowing republican observers to watch/participte in the counting process, outdated voter lists, illegally entering nursing homes to gather votes, Democrat “mules” stuffing ballots. The list goes on. I am curious to see how you explain it all away.

Tommy was doing what he does best: drawing an exorbitant salary from the taxpayers while doing absolutely nothing to rock the boat. Can anyone name ONE thing he did as President of the UW System to dampen the kind of identity politics lunacy described above?

Several years ago UW brought the Russian feminist punk-rock Pu**y Riot to campus. I asked for information about who was responsible for the visit and the rationale for inviting them to campus. I was interested primarily in emails for the event from the departments listed on the poster printed to inform the Madison community.

In my request, I explained that I was the chaplain for Orthodox students at UW and said that while as a Ukrainian Orthodox priest, I have no sympathy for Putin, I was concerned that the group made their protests against him in two different Orthodox cathedrals in Moscow. Though I didn’t mention this in my communication with UW, I couldn’t imagine an anti-LGBTQ group that behaved in a similar fashion being invited to speak.

Like the College Fix, my FOIA request was denied because it was “overly broad and ‘burdensome.” UW gave no specific guidance as to how to narrow my request nor could I find any on their website.

When you’re an institution as large, sprawling, and unaccountable as the UW and you’re accustomed to existing in a rarefied realm far above the petty concerns of ordinary (i.e., non-academic, non-elite) citizens, you can afford to be as sanctimonious, out-of-touch and high-handed as the UW-Madison. It also helps that your funding source will reliably grant your every wish no matter which political party is in charge.

Good thing your not running your ministry in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, you wouldn’t even be able to hand out beans to the homeless let alone request a FOIA.

I have a thought. Let those of you who are in positions of power at the university lead by example. Open up your homes at Bishops Bay or the Highlands, or Shorewood to those people who are living on Allied Drive, Park Street and North Port Drive. Trade in your cushy University job and start working at McDonalds or Kwik Trip, making $15.00 an hour.

Give away your Mercedes, your Lexus, your Tesla for a bus pass.

Then we’ll talk about your diversity and inclusion.

Otherwise, all you represent, is your hypocrisy.
