‘Please stop, I have a kid on the way,’ parent pleads with car jackers

at 3:45 in the afternoon!

“Please stop, I have a kid on the way,” the expectant father was pleading with the driver of a car. He was hanging onto the open passenger window as the car was dragging him down Maple Grove Drive Monday afternoon (07-27-2020).

The victim and his pregnant wife and been inside their nearby home when they spotted someone coming up to their porch. On it were recent deliveries, boxes containing child-rearing items, gifts from a recent baby shower.

The suspect tossed the stolen items into a front seat passenger, got behind the wheel and took off, just as the husband ran after the car, grabbing at the window. He was dragged about 20 feet before falling to the pavement. Simultaneously, some stolen baby shower items were thrown into the roadway.

The husband would later be treated for road rash, an injured foot, and a knee cut that required stitches.

He and his wife had gotten the license plate of the fleeing car, and it was soon pulled over by Verona Police officers. The driver, Marleaka M. Jackson, age 22, Madison, was tentatively charged with second degree reckless endangerment, and theft. A passenger, Destiny S. Shanklin, age 20, was arrested for receiving stolen property.

A stolen auto crashed into a residence in the 1200 block of S Whitney Way at about 1 p.m. this morning (07-28-2020) after it was pursued by multiple police agencies.

Town of Madison PD caught sight of a stolen vehicle and made contact with two occupants and recovered a facsimile handgun. Then the driver, still behind the wheel, took off at a high rate of speed.

Dane County Sheriff deputies observed the speeding vehicle and gave chase. The vehicle struck a bus shelter but that didn’t stop him. Madison police were asked to put up spikes but before they could, the 14-year-old driver struck the garage of a residence on S. Whitney Way, just south of Vitense Golf.
The driver and passenger(s) fled on foot but was apprehended. Madison police Lt. Kipp Hartman said rifle ammunition and burglary tools were recovered from the stolen car as evidence.

It should be noted that the pursuit began after a report of “shots fired” was called in.

OFF TOPIC: You all just made the House Judiciary Committee “inquisition” of Mr Barr. Rep. Thomas Tiffany (R) Wisc described the chaos in Madison, and thus, into the record of the proceeding.

The good news? Jill Karofsky will soon no longer be involved in these cases. The bad news -unless they reach the State Supreme Court…. BTW, she’ll be sworn in whilst running a marathon… Welp, that beats being sworn in whilst she takes a potty break. So soon, she already shows her disdain for the office she holds….

  6. Cornelius Gotchberg says:

Has the Mayor intervened and demanded that their preliminary hearing be expedited so these young black activists have restorative justice invoked in order to get back to their important work demanding black liberation in Madison?

Perhaps the two expecting parents will sign the recall petition.

    • Gary Kriewald says:

Maybe, unless they’re typical Madison liberals who welcome being victimized as long as the victimizers’ skin is the right color. then they’ll plead for that time-tested remedy, restorative justice.
