Progressivism triumphs in America’s Haiti

If you’re going … to San Francisco.
Be sure to watch/ the sidewalk where you step.

San Francisco is what Madison WI would like to be if we had a bridge over Lake Mendota.

They are two of my favorite cities: eclectic, picturesque, vibrant street scene. Coffee houses, eclectic bistros, farmers markets, festivals, electric music and arts. Both as progressive as Evo Morales in exile and as kooky as A.O.C. on a unicycle.

Both, unfortunately, have branded law enforcement as public enemy #1.  Disregarding public demand, Madison’s mayor wants to hire a $200,000 full-time watchdog over those troublesome police while freezing their number — all the while appointing cop haters like Brenda Konkel to sensitive safety posts.

Poopy streets of San Francisco

Madison has a ways to go to match San Francisco, which last Saturday (11-09-19) elected the son of two former Weather Underground murderers to serve as their District Attorney, as TownHall writes it.

Comment, respond, what do you thinkProgressive candidate Chesa Boudin wants to free criminals but prosecute police and ICE agents for doing their jobs. It’s no surprise Boudin hates cops so much. His parents did, too. Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert were terrorists in the Weather Underground who murdered two police officers and a security guard during a 1981 robbery of a Brinks armored security car outside New York City.

After his parents killed the cops, Boudin was sent to live with two other terrorists, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. Dohrn declared war on the United States and was on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Ayers bombed the Pentagon, the U.S. Capitol building, and the New York City Police Department before he and Dohrn became fugitives and went into hiding.

This is what is known in S.F. as “street cred.” Boudin promises not to prosecute public urination and other quality-of-life crimes in a city that has engaged poop patrols to pick up after and, thereby, enable dysfunction. Pretty much Madison, especially on upper State Street and for many months, in front of — and inside — the City-County Building.

Forbes magazine reports: “The trash, used needles, and human waste littering California’s cities have led to increased numbers of rats and, along with them, fleas and deadly diseases,” including The Black Death.

California is on Fire

Gavin Newsom started out as mayor of San Francisco. As governor, his state is on fire and the power is out to 2.7 million people. Not just for a day but for days on end in rolling blackouts and for the future. Electric power in Haiti is more dependable. Governor Newsom knows what to do. Blame Donald Trump. Blame global climate change.

Naturally, San Francisco has erected a huge mural to Greta Thunberg.

The governor of California threatens to take over the electric utility. What could go wrong? Having directed Pacific Gas & Electric to invest in wind and solar, might as well put the utility directly under the thumb of the Democrat(ic) party and their allies in the Sierra Club. The Wall Street Journal observes:

Because California accounts for less than 1% of global emissions, nothing it does will make a difference to climate, but its ratepayers shell out billions for wind and solar that might be better spent on fireproofing. A generation of ill-judged environmental activism has all but ended forest management in favor of letting dead trees and underbrush build up because it’s more “natural.”

The irony is that one week of smoke from the latest California fires is polluting the air worse than an entire year’s worth of vehicle emissions. (Source.)

Is it any wonder that, for 7th year in a row, more people left California than moved in?

Not kooky enough

Which is why former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg will never get the Democrats’ presidential nomination. Not without that electoral elephant in the room called California. This U. of Chicago political scientist explains why (H/T Ann of Althouse):

The problem is that Bloomberg made the city safer by cracking down on petty criminals… and frisking lots of people to lessen gun violence. Those policies, begun under Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and continued under Bloomberg, worked well — but… [b]eing strong on crime is the surest way to alienate today’s Democratic primary voters. …

Bloomberg’s second problem is… that he is not embarrassed by his riches, that he made them in the financial sector, and that he opposes the activists’ anti-growth policies, such as the Green New Deal.

Blaska’s Bottom LineThere’ll be no murals of Mike Bloomberg in the City by the Bay.

It’s so great when conservatives mock San Francisco. What’s the ideal conservative American city? Jacksonville Florida? Tempe Arizona? Wausau? Omaha? Some real hubs of fascinating living there, huh? Nothing against Waukesha, but I challenge anyone to spend more than 2 hours there without getting bored out of their gourds.

At least they won’t be bored though, am I right?

Big Sister Is Watching: Greta Thunberg Mural Looms Over San Francisco

“Instead of focusing on issues of sanitation, job creation, or at least ensuring there are more high school students than drug addicts in the city, activists have chosen to honor Swedish ‘climate crisis’ activist Greta Thunberg with a giant mural that will grace the skyline.”

Cue @AnonyBob profuse, spittle-flecked slobbering that St. Greta is soooooooooo much smarter than people that don’t think the way they’ve been told.

At least once in our storied past we had a governor who had the balls to derail a similar choo-choo before it had a chance to go off the rails like the one in California–and to piss off Madison’s liberal elites (always a welcome bonus). Oh well, they now have a new target to rail against: noisy airplanes.

When I first saw the Greta mural, I thought it was the product of some right-wing provocateur. Just shows that whenever you attempt to parody the left, they’ve already beat you to it. As for that overpriced shed in San Diego, I’d be interested to know the average rental of a studio apartment in one of the luxury high-rises that have deformed Madison’s skyline in the last few years. Something tells me it would right up there with California’s rents. And, of course this kind of thing troubles Madison’s liberal elites not a whit–they’ll go right on delivering pious little sermons on the evils of income inequality while presiding over a city that relentlessly squeezes working-class families out of affordable housing.

If indeed Madison soon succumbs to this style of behavior, no doubt Mayor Satya Conway-Rhodes will provide clean-up stations in strategic locations around the city –likely near the BRT transit points. Gawd…. Another infrastructure feather in her cap.
