It’s a Huge Story!
You know Democrats are in trouble when professional Trump basher David Leonhardt of the New York Times resorts to scolding his fellow Democrats.
Leonhardt frets that his beloved party is missing the zeitgeist of the moment; that being the caravan from Honduras headed straight for Brownsville, Texas. Donald Trump says Thank You for reminding voters of The Wall!
Leonhardt wishes Democrats would quit focusing on health care “like a laser.”
“Democrats are focused like a laser on health care and will not be diverted.” — Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.
Leonhardt: “This strikes me as wishful thinking. The caravan is a huge story. It led the NBC Nightly News broadcast yesterday, to take one example. Politicians in the final two weeks of a campaign can’t persuade people to ignore a huge story.”
As the President himself would say: “Huu-uge!” Mr. Leonhardt, give your party more credit! They’re ignoring the robust economy! They’re ignoring the re-set with N. Korea! They’re ignoring the defeat of ISIS! Even so, the sophisticated devices here at the Policy Werkes detects beaucoup de angst and a bucket of flop sweat at the NY Times, occasioned by the palpable uptick in Republican prospects since their meltdown in l’affaire Kavanaugh.
“It makes Democrats sound squishy and insecure on immigration,” Leonhardt wails. David, that’s because they are! “It makes it sound as if Democrats aren’t really sure whether they believe that this country should have immigration laws.” Mr. Leonhardt, that’s because they don’t!
The Times columnist, proficient scribbler that he is, offers some royalty-free boilerplate for use in Democratic campaign statements that sounds an awful lot like Trump on the stump:
This is a country of laws. We are not going to admit thousands of undocumented immigrants traveling in a caravan. We do not have open borders. But …
But, but, but. You knew there had to be a “but” to counteract all that fake resolve. So Leonhardt would have his Democrats prattle on about “a country of compassion” and we’re worried about all those kids. Are they getting their colorful, animal-shaped vitamins?
Timing, timing, timing. You don’t march 5,000 people one thousand miles without a heckuva lot of financial and logistical support. The Wall Street Journal connects the dots to Honduras’ Libre party, an ally of Venezuela and Cuba (and Barack Obama, for that matter). The irony is that The Caravan will force Mexico to enforce its own borders.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Donald Trump remains petty, boorish and mean. “The Wall” would be the greatest boondoggle since the Maginot Line. But once again Democrats, arrogant and out of touch, have been undone by their own fecklessness. PREDICTION: Republicans hold the House (barely) and pick up a couple seats in the Senate.

We are less a nation of laws than we were a month ago. Since then we’re told that no evidence is needed to destroy a good man in public service. And that we must believe anything said by any woman. Because. That’s why. The presumption of innocence is gone.

Please provide more reason why it would be Boondoggle. you mean all the litigation by all the enviro-social-communists then yes it would be a boondoggle which the supreme court would uphold if it were to go that far. But anyone who has lived more than 35 years on this planet might recall a time when daily market Homicide bombings occurred in Israel before they built their security wall. Now that it is built the Israeli’s and other groups now can pretty live in relative peace. Smaller in size but similar concept. The amount spent on a more permanent structure pales in the cost of damage of unfettered crossings into this country. It would not be cheap but the Army Corp of Engineers would be able to build a fortified big beautiful wall to protect us from invasion.

Boondoggle is putting it kindly. Security walls in Israel have nothing to do with a wall along our southern border. Ever notice the entire length of Texas’ border with Mexico is the Rio Grande River, running thru some of the most desolate and harsh desert on the continent? How do you wall off a river? Build it in the middle of a constantly changing river bed? Build it on Mexico’s side? (Doubt they’d go along with that.) Build it on the American side? Every rancher and farmer there depends on access to that water. Most Texans, even the ones fearful of all the browns, recognize it’s a wasteful idea that won’t work. All you need is a ladder. We already have an effective barrier; miles and miles of desolate desert that regularly kills poor souls trying to cross it on foot. They also travel by truck or car? ICE has jurisdiction 100 miles into the US to stop and search vehicles, and it does. Yes, all you good, white, patriotic righties can be stopped for no cause on US soil by law enforcement far from the border and forced to justify your citizenship. “We have open borders!” More lies from Trump to gin up an ignorant base. Because, you know, there’s also Middle Easterners in that caravan! Said no one ever. Of COURSE a terrorist would fly to Honduras and then walk the entire length of Mexico to get at us! BOB, Nice paragraph but you offered zero solutions just more insults? So I am asking more reasonable people who actually have solutions to this quasi-invasion. A Better Border Wall would be one part of a solution money needs to spent on this to try and stabilize the economic disaster that unfettered immigration (or invasion). The idea of a contiguous wall is not what I am asking in high crossing areas and yes larger more robust barriers could be build along river beds, we build damns on ever changing river beds but it takes engineering. Robust Barriers Cost Money but it can be done, water diversion for rancher and farmers needs could also be met by engineering. .
The current situation is unsustainable and fencing was built inadequately on purpose because one side wants more voters and the other wants a quasi slave labor to continue to exploit.
So I ask people on here that are not pushing for the eventual equal misery for all as the final outcome. to weigh in responsibly and not insult.
