Democrats wandering the political wilderness are flirting with Havana-style extremism rather than meeting voters where they live — in the middle.

Looks like the victory of Zohran Mamdani in New York city’s Democrat(ic) primary three weeks ago was not a coastal one-off. Progressive desperation has migrated to the Midwest — to that bastion of Swedish Lutherans, Minneapolis MN! Over the weekend, Minnesota’s version of the Democrat(ic) party nominated another Muslim socialist, this time for mayor of Minneapolis. Not at a city-only primary but at a statewide political convention of party regulars!
Worse, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party passed over a member of its own party, two-term mayor Jacob Frey. They endorsed instead a socialist Muslim, Omar Fateh, son of Somali immigrants, age 35. Like Bernie Sanders and A.O.C., Fateh promises More Free Stuff. He wants to introduce NYC-style rent control, raise the minimum wage, fight charter schools, impose a city income tax, and “combat police violence.”
It’s never enough!
It’s not like the incumbent mayor is another Tom Homan. Jacob Frey, age 43, vows to keep Minneapolis a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants. Talks housing affordability like a panelist on The View.

Democrats seem to be ignoring Elissa Slotkin’s call to “ditch wokeness and muscle up.” She was elected to the U.S. Senate last fall from Michigan, a state Trump carried. The lady, however, dances over actual policy — maybe ciz Trump is right on the big stuff.
Minneapolis went through literal fire after George Floyd resisted arrest five years ago. Mayor Frey lobbied a reluctant Governor Tim Walz to deploy the National Guard. (Ask Gov. Walz at The Capital Times’ Idea Fest next September if he supports Omar! Ask him if he knows what a woman is.) After surviving the BLM-inspired chaos, Minneapolis voters in 2021 turned down a proposal to “re-imagine” police. The Defund referendum had the backing of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minneapolis, state Attorney General Keith Ellison (more winners!), and Jacob Frey’s two opponents for mayor. Frey successfully fought Defund and won re-election.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Too much for Minnesota Democrats, apparently.

There needs to be a law passed that people who vote for Socialist Democrats can never move from their state to another state. They need to be forced to exist in the Hellish landscape they voted for.

Our friend Steve is right-as-rain about Medicare and Medicaid funding. Payroll taxes pay for Social Security, and partially for Medicare and Medicaid. So go FICA yourself, socialists!

Nice try. Taxes that pay for basic government services do not constitute socialism. There’s a difference between that and redistribution of wealth by punishing successful people and government takeover of private industry, which is what fools like Mamdani want.

I sincerely fear that Minneapolis, a once-lovely enclave, may be headed down the tubes. As my otherwise level-headed son with an MBA chose the riot-scarred neighborhood of Uptown to buy an owner-occupied apartment building. So, I’m familiar with the post-upheaval consequences that Twinkie-Town has absorbed. Only about a year ago, a blameless Minneapolis cop was ambushed and killed by a lowlife. In Uptown.
Of course, the national media did not pounce. The victimized policeman was black, but so was the attacker.
Minnesota also gave their citizens the $250 million fraud-fest known as Feeding Our Future. Perhaps because many of the fraudsters were Somali, the criminals feasted on a special program aimed at serving meals to children in the pandemic. Prosecutors found a glaring gap in the perps’ business plan: They did not actually serve many of the alleged meals.
I’ve visited the Twin Cities frequently enough in the last 25 years to see the deterioration. Rising homeless population. More violent crime. Open air drug use. Sketchier public transit. Feels more like Chicago all the time.
The Somalis that stole $250,000,000 from Feeding our Future kicked back the requisite campaign donations to AG Ellison (former head of the DNC and domestic abuser) and perhaps Ilhan Omar. Mention these details and count the seconds until CAIR calls you a Racist Islamaphobe.
