Republicans are promoting Hong on the tube.
Canada thinks it can smoke us out. It’s Mark Carney’s revenge, the Canadian prime minister’s evil scheme to make the United States a province of Canada. Smoke hangs heavy over greater Madison WI this hot morning. Expecting golf league to be canceled this afternoon.

Speaking of smoke and mirrors, startling to see Sara Rodriguez posting a meager $34,990 cash on hand in the January through June campaign finance report. That’s enough spare change to pay her ex-campaign manager’s back rent and treating what’s left of her campaign crew to a Brewers game. Where’s a tearful Sally Struthers pleading “Won’t you help?” The six-month financials:
• Francesca Hong: $708,884 raised with $410,563 cash on hand
• Kelda Roys: $527,432 with $406,492 cash on hand
• Joel Brennan: $665,627 with $359,583 on hand
• Mandela Barnes: $841,358 with $204,207 on hand
• Sara Rodriguez: $561,817 with $34,990 on hand.
Emphasizes just how strong is Hong. That the downtown Madison socialist could raise more money than the teachers union candidate, Kelda Roys, amazes us.
Tom Tiffany, meanwhile, raised $8,719,828 since January 1 and still has $2,998,334 to play with. Money that will enable the next Republican governor to raise still more money.
Reverse psychology?
Democrats are playing right into Tom Tiffany’s calloused hands. The New York Times reports that a super PAC created by the Republican Governors Assn. is pouring $2.2 million in the Madison and Milwaukee TV markets to paint Mizz Hong “as being too liberal, in what appears to be a counterintuitive strategy to grow her appeal among Democratic primary voters.” The 30-second ads start running today.
If Joel Brennan is going to tap into his brother-in-law’s billions, he’d best do so soon, said in-law being Kevin Conroy of Exact Sciences. There’s four weeks to go before the August 11 primary election and voter sentiments are being formed now.
Republicans we know are voting Hong in Wisconsin’s open primary. Early voting begins in two weeks.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: We’d rather the Republican governors smoked out State Rep. Hong’s Defund the Police plank, given that ICE’s death toll keeps mounting. Something along the lines of no one picking up when daughter calls 911 on a dark and smoky night. But don’t worry, there’s enough Democrat(ic) incompetence to go around. As for Sara Rodriguez, we can hear Dandy Don on Monday Night Football singing “The party’s over 🎵.”
