“Party that called Trump ‘Hitler’ for 8 years shocked
that someone tried to assassinate him.” — Babylon Bee
We do not do cancel culture here at Blaska Policy Werkes. We’re more like a thousand points of light, if my MAGA acquaintances (for they ARE … my acquaintances) can stand a George Bush reference.
But we have to wonder what, if any progressive, lefty, socialist, Bernie Bro will condemn a statement from Kirk Bangstad, the owner of Minocqua Brewing, who runs a beer garden right here in Madison WI at 2927 E Washington Avenue.
Because he went up almost immediately on social media celebrating the attempted assassination of Donald Trump Saturday night 04-25-26 at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

Well, we almost got #freebeerday. Either a brother or sister in the Resistance needs to work on their marksmanship or he faked another assassination to get a positive news cycle. We’ll never know. Regardless, we stand at the ready to pour free beer the day it happens.
Like TV News 15 reported two years ago: “The owner of Minocqua Brewing does not shy away from expressing his progressive political beliefs.”
The violent left
We get free speech. And now we’re going to use some of ours. This guy makes common cause with the Co-Exist Crowd, the Defund the Police people, the No Kings Marchers, the Kenosha fire bombers, and other bullhorn bellowers. So do the three creeps who tried to kill the President, as does the guy who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, the Bernie Sanders acolyte who gunned down Republican majority whip Steve Scalise on the congressional baseball diamond, and the one who threatened Justice Bret Kavanaugh at his home. For that matter, JFK’s assassin was a Marxist. Bobby Kennedy’s killer was a Palestinian River-to-the-Sea hater.
Bangstad ran for Assembly as a Democrat six years ago; thankfully defeated by Rob Swearingen in District 34.
Michael Alfonso, running to succeed Tom Tiffany for Congress, posted this on social media:
This brewery is owned by a man named Kirk Bangstad, and he’s not just some random crazy guy. Kirk is friends with current Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner Francesca Hong. He previously employed Rebecca Cooke, the Democrat currently running against Derrick Van Orden, and was himself the Democratic nominee against my father-in-law, Sean Duffy, in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District — where I am now running for office.

Tiffany, now running for governor on the Republican ticket, asks “Will the media ask Francesca Hong, who appeared on his podcast, if she condemns this statement? Will they ask Mandela Barnes, who this lunatic dedicated a beer to, if he condemns it?”
So how does Hong, the Democrat(ic) front-runner for the gubernatorial nomination respond? With an equivocation:
“I also want to point out: The state enacts political violence on its citizens every day. We see it when ICE agents occupy our cities and put children in cages. We see it in a healthcare system that lets people die because they can’t afford care.”
Bangstad has also been convicted of disorderly conduct and ordered to pay defamation damages to the publisher of the local weekly newspaper. Now THERE is a man bites dog story!
Blaska’s Bottom Line: If the owner of the average Madison sports bar was quoted wishing the death of, say, Kamala Harris, the guy’s fire insurance would be canceled for fear of the resulting “street justice.” This goes beyond free speech: the man is offering something of value (however small) to whomever fulfills his fatwa.
