Workers of the world, throw off your clothes!
For the third straight month, the candidate leading all Democrats in the race for Wisconsin governor remains the one and only Francesca Hong, an out-front socialist like that New York mayor and unlike other Democrats who won’t admit it.
John Nichols must be in socialist heaven right now, sharing the blessings with sinner and saint equally, according to their need. Expect a glowing profile in the next number of The Nation, along with a plea to rescue Cuba from capitalism.
Mimicking Zohran Mamdani, State Rep. Hong last week introduced the “Wisconsin Public Grocery Store Act,” proposing $100 million in tax money to start up government-run grocery stores.
Mizz Hong, D-Madison, claims 14% of voters polled by Marquette Law School. Nipping at her work boots is former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes at 11% — much vilified for losing what Democrats considered a winnable race four years ago against Ron Johnson for U.S. Senate. The other seven candidates are asterisks. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez are tied at 3%, business leader Joel Brennan registers 2%, former economic development secretary Missy Hughes and State Sen. Kelda Roys barely disturb the needle at 1%. Where’s my man Brett Hulsey? At 0.0 percent along with Zachary Roper. (Who? “Roper.” Oh.)
Marquette’s 65% undecided could be interpreted as a) Too early; b) Don’t know enough, or c) None of the Above. It IS a ho hum field.

Not safe for work
Admittedly, this race has five months to sort itself out before the August 11 primary election but Mizz Hong is taking no chances, sewing up key Democrat(ic) constituencies like America’s “sex workers.” Soon to be represented by the SEIU? “Members advocate for racial and economic justice” — “economic justice” being the euphemism for collectivism just as “sex workers” is the euphemism for ….?
Just a year ago, Rep. Hong and other members of the state legislature’s socialist caucus (it’s a real thing) awarded a legislative citation to honor a certain Renee Olstead for her selection as Penthouse magazine’s Pet of the Year. (First reported by Wisconsin Right Now.)

Whereas, Renee Olstead has been a committed activist for Sex Worker Rights in both Wisconsin and California … therefore, Rep. Ryan M. Clancy, Francesca Hong, Darrin B. Madison, and Christian Phelps, on behalf of the Wisconsin State Assembly, congratulate Renee Olstead on her honor of being the first person from Wisconsin to be named “Penthouse Pet of the Year” for 2024.
Wikipedia describes Mizz Olstead as “a singer, actress, … and sex therapist for the adult industry mental health support network Pineapple Support.” She’s also up at Porn Hub, guys! (Sorry, no links; I’m blocked out.) Before Saloutos scolds our cheekiness, be advised that the Head Groundskeeper resisted the urge to Photoshop (verb, transitive) Rep. Hong’s face onto the Penthouse foldout. (THIS TIME!)
Wisconsin doesn’t like Democrats
Oddly enough, the presumptive Republican nominee, Tom Tiffany, is the only candidate from either party with a net-positive favorability rating in this week’s Marquette Law School Poll, coming in at plus +2 points. That marks a six-point swing upward for Tiffany since February, according to the Heartland Post. Hong is underwater at minus –2 while Barnes and Miss Missy Hughes post a –6.
It gets worse for Democrats here in Wisconsin. Marquette respondents dislike Democrats by 23 points more than they approve, compared to Republican’s minus -10. Maybe because those polled hadn’t heard about the sex worker honor.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Former WI Dem party boss Ben Wikler would sort all this out and pick a nominee. Last time he did so, he chose the lesser Mandela. One more thing, Renee Olstead is NOT from Wisconsin.
