Our book club has chosen as its next read, Abundance, which argues that Democrats must become the party of economic growth and innovation if they want to restore their fortunes.
But the Democrat(ic) party, wandering backstage like This Is Spinal Tap, retreats instead to the moldiest of its oldies: socialism. Zohran Mamdani is the party’s latest teenaged heart throb, succeeding the likes of Beto O’Rourke and Stacey Abrams — the Bobby Shermans of the progressive party. We can hear the bubblegum snapping.
Creating abundance, it would seem, requires too much music. To create abundance is to create wealth — too Republican! Mamdani’s songbook has always been more in tune with Democrats: More Free Stuff. Freeze rents, free child care, free bus rides. Raise the minimum wage to $30/hour. Make the rich pay for it. The politics of envy, in the key of socialism. Never mind that a) a mayor of New York does not have the authority to enact new taxes and b) socialism doesn’t work.
“You people know that New York City residents can leave, right?” the essential Jonah Goldberg asks.
And get government to run grocery stores. If your idea of the Promised Land is government-run grocery stores, then take a number like at your local DMV waiting room for your ration of beans.

The Muslim candidate’s call to “Globalize the Intifada” is not an aberration. The Jeremy Corbyn of New York City doubled down today on his plan to jack up property taxes on “richer and whiter neighborhoods” — while asserting billionaires shouldn’t exist.
Is the progressive socialist encouraging housing construction? Keeping the streets safe? Holding taxes down? Reducing welfare roles? Improving schools? Attracting job creators? Killing rats? No, he’s divvying up a shrinking pie. You want abundance, consider Donald Trump:
• The stock market is setting record highs
• Mortgage rates are down
• Inflation is at 2.4% — down from Biden’s 9.1%
• Wages are up 1.5% in the first 6 months of this year
• Illegal migrant “getaways” are down 95%
• NATO members are paying more
• Iran’s nuclear threat is diminished.
“Damn, the guy is getting a lot done,” CNN’s Smerconish said Saturday of Donald Trump.
Blaska’s Bottom Lines: Zohran Mamdani won a plurality of the Democrat(ic) vote (43.5%) against a field led by the walking dead Andrew Cuomo. Mamdani lost the black precincts but racked up huge leads in what one observer (quoted here) dubs New York’s “Commie Corridor” — a stretch of neighborhoods filled with young professionals with progressive leanings. In other words, same voters Democrats already have.

I never tire of reminding my best friend who live in California that his state, a one-party kleptocracy (if you include exorbitant taxes in the definition of kleptocracy), has a budget deficit of $12 billion, while Wisconsin, with its Republican-dominated legislature, has a surplus of $4 billion. I think he’s gradually coming round.
I think he should raise the minimum wage to $150,000 per year because its expensive to live in NYC.

Mamdani seems reluctant to reach out to the Jewish community. This is not a good look for a supporter of the Palestinian cause looking for votes in NYC. We’ll see how his campaign shapes up.
Thomas Sowell pointed out that since Democrats are always bemoaning the concentration of wealth in this country (and trying their best to redistribute that wealth,) you’d think that they would be very interested in how wealth gets created. But you’d be wrong. They are completely uninterested in what causes wealth to “happen.” They are only interested in what happens to it once somebody else creates it.
wealth is created by extending tax breaks passed in ’17, creating new tax breaks for billionaires while taking away social programs TACO said he wouldn’t cut. The wealthy are using their money to further their agenda. Now ICE was told to leave farm workers and resort workers alone. Can’t have you rich guys doing without your spinach salad or getting your own towels. who would carry your clubs. 3.3 TRILLION added to the debt is no problem as long as that thieving, corrupt old lady down the block gets her food stamps cut. People that have all the wealth buy all the political power. they push their own agendas leaving democracy to rot.
