Susan Crawford has 2 sheriffs

Both are Dane County liberals!

You may have seen that Susan Crawford campaign TV ad. Would help to know that the two sheriffs endorsing the liberal Dane County judge for state supreme court are, themselves, Democrats in good standing from right here in bright blue Dane County. Sheriff Kalvin Barrett is so P.C. that he insists the people locked up in the jail be called “residents,” not “inmates.” Regards I.C.E. as the enemy.

As for former sheriff David Mahoney, he endorsed my opponent for school board in 2019, Ali Muldrow. Sour grapes, except that Ms. Muldrow was a leader in the Defund the Police effort. Once elected, she fulfilled her promise to expel school resource police officers from Madison’s troubled high schools. Not the troublemakers — the police! By contrast, Blaska supported the sheriff’s department during his 12 years as a Dane County supervisor. Didn’t matter. The Democratic Party tells Mahoney whom to endorse.

→ George Soros’ bad bet on progressive prosecutors

→ Susan Crawford’s axis of evil

Barrett and Mahoney may be the only sheriffs endorsing the Soros-funded Crawford. Her opponent, Waukesha County Judge Brad Schimel, is endorsed by 54 sheriffs and 27 more retired sheriffs, plus several law enforcement organizations.

Schimel’s sheriffs — more than two!

 Pitiful showings

State school marm and critical race theoretician Jill Underly attracted only 37.5% of the vote Tuesday 02-18-25. That is a tremendous vote of no confidence for an incumbent. There is hope for reformer Brittany Kinser, who was hot on Underly’s heels with 35.1% of the vote. But Ms. Kinser cannot take for granted Jeff Wright’s 27.4%. Wright was just as progressive as the Woke incumbent, but not burdened with Underly’s cheating on test results. Good to see Madison education reformer Kaleem Caire and Ms. Kinser hugging at her victory party.

The intense interest in the state supreme court race will spill over into the usually somnolent superintendent of public instruction ballot.

By the same token, two hard Left Madison alders managed a little better than a third of the vote. Council President Yannette Figueroa Cole took 37% of the vote on the SW side against former council office manager Lisa Veldran’s 34% and former alder Sheri Carter’s 29%. On the NW side, incumbent Nikki Conklin with 40% lagged behind challenger Joann Pritchett’s 49% and Rick Cruz’s 11%. Conklin and Figueroa Cole are Progressive Dane.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Hard left? Applies to Susan Crawford, as well. George Soros endorses no one but soft-on-crime judges and prosecutors! Soros’ tainted billions have inflicted on our neighborhoods blame-the-victim district attorneys like Larry Krasner in Philadelphia, Kim Foxx in Chicago, Chesa Boudin in San Francisco, Marilyn Mosby in Baltimore, George Gascón in Los Angeles, and Alvin Bragg in New York.

I worked with Mahoney and trust you might never possess his courage, work ethic and integrity.

Good luck with your cheap shots.

I don’t disagree. Dave Mahoney was a good lawman, a good sheriff. Rides horses and Harley Davidson motorcycles. That I did not contest. Which makes it all the more mystifying how he could sell his soul to support a leftist judge like Susan Crawford! If I know you at all, Al Rickey — YOU don’t support Susan Crawford. It’s not just Blaska, Dave Mahoney endorsed every left wing candidate the Democratic Party of Dane County told him to. Some of them firmly Defund the Police. Now, to a mutual friend, he denies that he is a member of the party. He may not be any more. But he ran for sheriff as a Democrat, or is he hoping we forgot?

I just learned today that in Dane County, if you get a speeding , careless driving etc. and don’t pay your ticket, your driver’s license won’t be suspended or revoked. Court Clerk said this has been effect since the Shanghai Sniffles started. So what’s the incentive for law abiding citizen’s to do their civic duty and pay their tickets? No wonder people run from the cops, don’t get plates or insurance and a host of other things. Cops don’t bother with those folks because it’s a waste of paper. They target smucks like you and me that are responsible. We are the easy marks. “Take a bite out of Crime”, has no teeth.

I can shed some light on the court policy you referenced. It was actually way back in 2009 that I and others worked with our judiciary to amend Circuit Court Rule 123 to add this verbiage: “… Action by the clerk of circuit court to suspend operating privileges for failure to pay court obligations as authorized by Ch. 345.47(1) shall not take place until all other collection methods (i.e. reduction to civil judgment, referral to collections, state tax refund certification) have been given a reasonable opportunity to be effective.” The reasoning behind this was that if someone abided by the suspension, it could adversely impact their ability to work, which would be counterproductive when the goal was to have these people pay their forfeitures. And if they didn’t abide by the suspension, they’d just rack up more forfeitures they couldn’t pay when they got pulled over and cited for operating after suspension. As it happens, our longstanding local practice was validated by a 2023 study performed by the UW’s La Follette School. If you need some bedside reading, you can download a PDF of the report here: https://lafollette.wisc.edu/research/eliminating-wisconsins-drivers-license-suspension-policy-for-failure-to-pay-forfeitures-a-cost-benefit-analysis/

The study refers to (and recommends) the State Debt Collection Program, which the Dane County Clerk of Court Office signed onto some years back, as have the courts in many other counties. The program has been very successful in bringing in these court-ordered financial obligations all over the state.

Dane County’s current sheriff is an example of a DEI hire (DEI=Quotas)

Except for the fact that Sheriff Barrett not a white man, how do you conclude that he holds his position as a result of a DEI quota? Barrett is the son of a Marshall in the San Diego court system. In 2000, he came to Madison from southern California to play UW football and graduated 4 years later with his BA in Sociology, After a stint as a teacher and coach in Texas, he returned to Dane County in 2009 to work as a Deputy Sheriff and then as a Sun Prairie police officer. In 2021, he was appointed Sheriff by Gov. Evers and was elected in 2022 with 77% of the vote. He completed a master’s degree and teaches at the Madison College Law Enforcement Academy. He is married with 2 kids. After 4 years in action, he strikes me as a thoughtful and articulate guy with a breadth of life experience and résumé. I would surely concede that his political affiliation was a necessary condition for his appointment by a Democratic governor and a liberal Dane County electorate. Please enlighten me on how you determined that he is the product of a DEI quota.

Please enlighten us why he wasn’t. IMO, there’s little doubt that Barrett’s both qualified and a stand-up guy, but if you claim that testing Melanin Positive had nothing to do with his being hired, you’re either clueless, willfully blind, or lying.

Based on your (mercifully) limited body of self-aggrandizing smuggery, it’s likely a little of each, with the lion’s share being the latter.

The only way to tell is if there’d have been a blind…er…vision challenged interviewing process, where only qualifications mattered. C’mon, the pool of prospective candidates was already limited by the fact that Ichabod Evers wouldn’t choose Pat Garrett or Andy Taylor were they to have had an R after their name.

For comparison, The Gotch would suggest “now, let’s do Kacklin’ Kamala,” but he suspects the same internal biases you hold steadfast would fudge that analysis, as well. After all, you do think “(s)he turned out to be an (heh!) excellent candidate who ran a (heh! 2.0) Near_Flawless_Campaign“, am I right…?

Normwegian began with a negative assertion: Sheriff Barrett was a “DEI hire.” I asked for his reasoning. (Norm is predictably silent, unable defend his reflexive bigotry.) You step in to spin the discussion 180°: because Sheriff Barrett is black, prove that his race had nothing to do with his appointment by Gov. Evers. A child could find fault with your line of argument.

Consider a parallel: Me: “Gotch is a raving racist.” Gotch replies, “Why do you think so?” I rejoin, “Well, prove that you’re not.”

For extra credit: Why did your discussion of Dane County’s sheriff segue into an incoherent slam against Kamala Harris? For extra extra credit, take a close look at the photo of Schimel’s sheriffs in Mr. Blaska’s original post. Other than needing to spend a little more time at the gym, what might they have in common?

Incoherent? The Gotch’s humblest apologies; he’ll endeavor to meter future comments to accommodate the cognizance
          upon which there’re being laid.

I’ve seen those ads for Crawford and wondered (not really) why the two sheriffs were never identified as to jurisdiction. They also featured an endorsement by a cop (also no jurisdiction mentioned). Anybody know this guy? Let’s hope that the same people who gave Trump a resounding victory in WI turn out for Schimel–and bring their friends. It’s time for someone other than a pin-up girl for Dane County liberals gets awarded a Supreme Court seat.
