It is an oddity of that perplexing, little-read document, the U.S. Constitution. A concept stranger than the Electoral College: that the U.S. House of Representatives “shall chuse their Speaker” and s/he need not be a member!
This is the Groucho Marx proviso — not deigning to belong to a club that would accept him as a member. Which recalls this likely apocryphal story: Victor Mature was denied membership in an exclusive country club. “I’m sorry, Mr. Mature, we don’t admit actors.” To which, the hammy matinee idol riposted, “But I’m not an actor! Haven’t you seen my movies?!”

We sent the indentured servants to the underground bunker as Wolf Blitzer and his CNN panel worked their worry beads Friday evening over the prospect of government coming to a screeching, smoking shutdown at midnight Saturday 12-21-24, spilling Christmas toys all over the Beltway. A prospect of dread to every progressive Democrat who believes that government causes wealth.
Diversity and equity seminars suspended until further notice at forward military outposts. Statues and monuments, unaccountably fenced off. National Park passports, unstamped. The horror!
Which brings us, illogically, to Andorra. It’s is a fine little country about the size of a breadbox. The Principality of Andorra sits somewhere in the Pyrenee mountains between Spain and France; one suspects, its 85,000 residents aren’t sure exactly where. Might even be peripatetic. It has not one but two — 2 — heads of state, neither of whom live there. One is the bishop of Urgell; he’s in Catalonia, Spain. The other is the president of France, Macron. Again, the Groucho principle!
Blaska’s Bottom Line: If Elon Musk turns thumbs down on House Speaker Mike Johnson, who then? Some propose Musk himself, but that would involve a pay cut. Lara Trump? Barron? Tucker? Consider today’s blogge a good word for the bishop of Urgell, Joan Enric Vives Sicília. Never hear of any drones over Andorra!

I thought Musk was going to be appointed Prime Minister. Love to hear all these life -long politicians run on about disrupting the swamp when they themselves are part of it. Got to love the fact that an 81-yr old representative from Texas has been in a memory care home for months and no one missed her. She got her healthcare and paid. Is she running unopposed in the next election? With a Trump indorsement of course.
