Can’t blame Madison’s police chief for wanting to further his career, which he’ll do as police chief in Seattle WA. Has his work cut out for him.
Donald Trump wanted to send troops to Seattle to restore order after progressive hooligans took over Capitol Hill and declared it a police-free occupied zone after the death of George Floyd in 2020 — complete with a block-long Black Lives Matter mural. A police precinct station was over-run. Predictably, the neighborhood erupted in rape, robbery, lootings, and shootings.
Seattle today is having the same problem as police departments across the nation: recruitment. The city’s complement of sworn officers are at 1958 levels — down 700 officers from an ideal 1,500 — despite an increase in base pay and $30,000 signing bonuses.
This past July, Seattle council member Rob Saka declared, “The public safety challenges that we’re experiencing today are a shameful legacy of the defund the police movement. And that was wrong then. It’s wrong now. From my perspective, defund is dead.”
