DEI college bureaucrat succumbs to own poison

There is good news today!

Management assures its Platinum+ subscribers that the Werkes will continue to publish even during a government shutdown using auxiliary power, alternate facts, and off-the-books funding.

The University of Michigan has fired a DEI administrator. That’s a start. One Rachel Dawson, we read, directed the prestigious public university’s office of academic multicultural initiatives. Yeah, the world of diversity, equity, and inclusion is cluttered with that kind of high-toned jabberwocky.

Ms. Dawson stands in the shaming dock for uttering various and sundry anti-semitic utterances, among them saying Jews are “wealthy and privileged.” But then, don’t DEI scolds say that about every white person?

MTI Education Justice Center coordinator Natasha Sullivan. Logo at upper left on her T-shirt reads “Madison Metropolitan School District.”

The university originally sentenced Ms. Dawson for training, which conjures images of pre-dawn calisthenics at 10 degrees below Centigrade at some Siberian gulag. After breakfast gruel, berating and guilt-mongering lectures to follow. Then various sensory deprivations involving the Queen of Diamonds.

Raises this conundrum: If the director of the office of academic multicultural initiatives needs training — presumably, RE-training — how is the incoming freshman from, say, the permafrost of the Upper Peninsula, going to navigate this brave new world maze of multicultural initiatives on top of his major in accounting?!

More schadenfreude: Ms. Dawson is bringing lawsuit based on — wait for it! — her First Amendment freedom of speech! The irony is thicker than Joe Biden’s tongue. Would that countless freshmen from places like Ishpheming receive the protections of the Constitution for voicing their opinions of the NY Times’ 1619 Project or Grutter v Bollinger 2023.

“Some Democrats are finally waking up and realizing that woke is broke.” — Maureen Dowd, NY Times

 Is it worth it?

As of this month, Michigan no longer requires diversity statements to hire or promote faculty. That, after:

Most responding faculty agreed that diversity statements put pressure on faculty to express specific positions on moral, political or social issues. … a ‘litmus test’ of whether a faculty member’s views are politically acceptable. (Source here)

Disputed rumors say that Michigan is considering defunding DEI entirely. Since 2016, the University of Michigan has showered $250 million at DEI. One academic study suggests DEI actually escalates workplace hostility and racial biases.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Ms. Dawson is getting more due process than most students. The university hired an outside law firm that found two professors who said Dawson told them that Jewish students didn’t need her services. Like everyone else, we contend.

Who is going to tell Paul Fanlund that DEI is dead?

Hope yer on the mend DB. Ever since the song by Johnny Cash, no one calls me Sue and lives to sing about it. BUTTTT Heyoooh! I just love me some waking up with no DEI in my cup! Look, DEI inadvertently caused my dear sweet hubby (and I) to hasten retirement and spend almost five years of bliss in the land of sunshine and DeSantis before he passed. My sun hat is off to the pinheads of UW-Madison, who thought it a good idea to force their idea of diversity down his throat during his tenure in math and engineering. His steely moral backbone pronged straight up when they devised “training” necessary for forthcoming benefits. BTW NOT in the contract. Eight female Chinese grad students just wasn’t diverse enough for the buggers. So that job got shoved as the song goes and we absconded. If they’d made life pleasant, we might still be living in the tundra. God is good! Change is good, and this change is even gooder!

I am sorry to hear that Professor Nigel Boston passed away. I attended several talks he gave on cryptology. In the spring of 2013 he gave an enlightening public presentation on the deciphering of the German Enigma machine. You have my sincere condolences.

Professor Boston was inducted as a fellow of the American Mathematical Society and in less than twenty years supervised an incredible total of 39 PhD students.

Wow! This is the last place I expected to see recognition for Nigel from a colleague. He was definitely a powerhouse when it came to his work. Thank you for remembering him and your nice comments. Blaska knows some sterling people. Sorry for hijacking your piece Mr. B.

Because of the emotional mojo invested, despicable Lefty Social Engineering Pipe Dreams succumb to a long painful death; yet die they do, and when the plug is pulled, no one wants to be near the corpse.

So thoroughly convinced that their comically imbecilic d!p$#!ttery (bathrooms, pronouns, Drag Queen Story Hour, NAMBLA, Gender-Bending, genital mutilation, puberty blocks, Trantifa, etc., etc., etc.) is the Brave New World that they couldn’t fathom how any right thinking person would be agin ’em; time-n-time-again this becomes their Fatal F*****g Flaw.

With Didn’t Earn It, they were down 15-0 in the bottom of the 9th with nobody on…with two strikes and (heh!) NO BALLS; their laughably sheltered, intellectually prepubescent existence made them swing for the fences when Righty was throwing high heat inside.

To no one’s surprise, and in a story as old as time itself…they whiffed.

It’s almost too much to take.

    Almost…….
