What if I told you that a sitting US Senator is in a relationship and living with a private wealth manager who specializes in investing in the industry the Senator oversees on a subcommittee? What if I told you that this couple has not disclosed their financial statements or cared to explain how the investment manager is not leveraging inside information from the elected official to benefit her clients?
The situation described above is quite literally playing out in Wisconsin with Senator Tammy Baldwin and Maria Brisbane and is willfully being ignored by nearly every major media outlet. Because this is a same-sex couple who refuses to get married and can therefore skip formal financial disclosures that apply to every other Senator and spouse, the media is willfully oblivious to the nature of the situation. — Erick Erickson
Maria Brisbane is a private wealth manager affiliated with Morgan Stanley in New York City. Sen. Baldwin serves on the Commerce Committee and related subcommittees.

Is there actually evidence to support that insider trading is happening as a result of this relationship or is it all plausible innuendo?
IMO, the very least Baldwin should’ve done was to make an effort at disclosure in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
If her Ethics Alarms weren’t ringing off the wall, THAT’S a problem.

I completely agree.
Very reminiscent of Barney Frank, then chair of a House Banking Subcommittee with oversight of Fannie Mae who arranged to have his gay lover hired there. Frank received copious campaign contributions from Fannie and Freddie Mac in addition to grants to a charity co-founded by Frank’s mother. What followed was the sub-prime mortgage crisis and the financial crisis of 2007-09.
Not only that, but Bawney Fwank’s Knob Polisher (Stephen Gobie) was running a Bi-Sexual Prostitution Ring out of Fwank’s apartment; a real…um…go getter, he, am I right?
Anywho, Fwank claimed he knew nothing about it; funniest thing, OTHERS credibly dispute that.
Sigh…who to believe…?

Move along! Nothing to see here! Just like Barney Frank, Joe and the rest of the Bidens, Nancy Pelosi, Robert Mendes, Berny Sanders and many more including Republicans. How many politicians get elected with middle of the road income and retire from “public service” and retire as millionaires? I love the story of LBJ first getting elected to congress with little money in his pocket and leaving a millionaire.

Anywho, H/T for acknowledging THE most basic aspect of our legal system, presumption of innocence. But rarely do inquiries begin with “solid evidence.” Quite the contrary; they begin with allegations, which if warranted, trigger inquiries; if evidence is found, charges are brought, which become convictions when proven in a court of law.
Despite your specifically, and Lefty’s generally, ardent hope to the contrary, these allegations deserve further scrutiny.
Baldwin funneled $49 million for development of a WI Biohealth Tech Hub, expected to generate $9 Billion over 10 years. She’s also steered beau coup public money to the NIH which, oddly enough is the largest public funder of bio-tech start-ups.
Funniest thing; Brisbane managed a biotech start-up mutual fund, still has her toes in the pool, and likely still has clients’ contact info. Is it beyond the realm of possibility that any of this may have…um…slipped out whilst they were kissin’ the kitty?

Gotch: I admit you do bring up some really interesting points. What the country needs is a new Woodward and Bernstein team, but the prevailing political climate can be hostile to anything approaching truth. No one wants to hear it. Everyone seems to be waiting for the coming “joy” of the Nov 5th Presidential election.
I understand that Senator Baldwin has her financial assets in a “blind” trust since 2013, a ploy used by many in Congress. Since Baldwin is not married to her partner, she is not required to disclose anything.

That raises “damned bad smell” to redolently fetid odiferousness (sic); please click on the appearance of impropriety hyperlink referenced above.
The Gotch would hazard a guess Baldwin’s finances are squeaky clean AND bubble-wrapped with plausible deniability; Brisbaine, not so much. You don’t get to the level she’s gotten without a heapin’ helpin’ of ethical flexibility, cutting corners, pushing the envelope, and testing the limits of legality.
And don’t rule out the possibility Baldwin’s getting Barney Franked; played at best, unconscionably and cynically used at worst.
