No root causes for this Democrat!
If we can put up with bathrobes at WalMart, we can live with a dash of demagoguery in our politics. Every candidate panders to a certain extent. Rather than telling us what we need to hear, as a leader might, they tell us what we want to hear.
But Midwest-nice Tammy Baldwin is out-doing the likes of Matt Gaetz and Al Sharpton for cynical opportunism. The Senator is dumbing down political discourse to the Dick and Jane level. (The political corollary of Gresham’s Law is that stupid drives out substance.)
When her Republican challenger observed that almost all occupations are safer today than a generation ago, Tammy put up a video claiming Eric Hovde said farmers don’t work hard. It’s a flat-out lie.
Now Sen. Baldwin is up with a spot saying Hovde hates single mothers. Eric Hovde must be reviewing anything he may have said about puppy dogs.
Tammy’s latest buy features adults raised by single mothers outraged that Hovde supposedly predicted, “you’re going to be poor or a drug addict.” Actually, what Hovde said, in effect, was “you’re more likely to be …” The ad plays a clip of Hovde in an interview saying, “That is a direct path to a life of poverty … it leads to higher drug rates.”
‘What’s wrong with this guy’ is that he is correct
It’s an empiric fact: the biggest single root cause of crime and poverty Is fatherlessness. The U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention records that 31.7% of children living with a single parent lived below the poverty level, compared to only 9.5% of children living with two parents. (Source here) New York City once advertised on buses and subways that “If you finish high school, get a job, and get married before having children, you have a 98% chance of not being in poverty.”
That advice, Jason Riley reports, is known as the “success sequence,” based on research done by Brookings Institution scholars Isabel Sawhill and Ron Haskins. Riley cites a more recent academic paper from the Institute for Family Studies, which finds that “Nationwide, the total crime rate is about 48% higher in cities that have above the median share of single-parent families, compared to cities that have fewer single-parent families.”
This 51-second clip shows what Eric Hovde actually said, in 2012 during his first race. Hellz bellz, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a good Democrat then working for LBJ, said as much in 1965!
‘Life Without Father’
Less college, less work, and more prison for young men growing up without their biological father
The decline of marriage and the rise of fatherlessness in America remain at the center of some of the biggest problems facing the nation: crime and violence, school failure, deaths of despair, and children in poverty. … The percentage of boys living apart from their biological father has almost doubled since 1960 — from about 17% to 32% today. … These boys are more likely to act up, lash out, flounder in school, and fail at work as they move into adolescence and adulthood. Even though not all fathers play a positive role in their children’s lives, on average, boys benefit from having a present and involved father. — Institute for Family Studies
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Aren’t Democrats supposed to be all over “root causes”? Tammy Baldwin could use her bully pulpit to help build strong communities through strong families. Or talk about her own record. Instead, she just wants to get elected.

great points, I hope that Hodve clarifies Baldwin’s ad.

You would think the girl in the commercial who is seemingly bragging about her mother working 80 hour weeks would have had an “aha” moment but… no.
hardly “stupid”
just plain dishonesty
gotch , then Hovde, now Blaska. My sister and I were raised by my mother. I take this s@#t personally as you know by all my responses whenever gotch brings it up. This is all you got in support of Hovde? If it is he will be a loser; again.
You may well have been the exception although, judging from most of your comments, you weren’t.
So you think I’m some low life criminal drunk drug user? Just like pickle boy? Speak up Dave.
Well, I personally think you’re an idiot so you’ve got that going for you.
Baldwin and those that support her will cherry pick quotes out of context, spout unsupportable innuendo, make false claims, make wild unsupportable predictions, launch into ad hominems, spread fear mongering, and lie straight to your face (it’s all pure unadulterated defamation) while hiding behind a veil of freedom of speech and when you make the effort to prove that their propaganda is verifiable lies they say you’ve drank too much of the Fox News Kool-Aid and imply that you’re stupid. This is a core tactic of the progressive left.
only on the left? are you kidding me?
Nope, I’m not kidding. I’m stating what I see as verifiable truth. If you want to dispute my opinion then give it a try but going down the path of everyone’s doing it holds no water with me.
Step up Richard, present your contradictory arguments trying to prove me wrong.
“I personally think you’re an idiot.” Please. No ad hominem attacks. Time for the comment section fumigation again.
Anonymous,
Read up a little bit on ad hominem and try to better understand it; what I wrote was not ad hominem in context with the comment it was replying to which in fact was “So you think I’m some low life criminal drunk drug user? Just like pickle boy? Speak up Dave.” Context matters a great deal.
Saying anything that could be construed as critical of a single mother is tantamount to a hate crime in certain circles (i.e., Tammy and her ilk). Not so long ag it was universally regarded as shameful to bear a child out of wedlock (admittedly, the shame unfairly attached only to the mother; the father somehow escaped opprobrium); now it’s “celebrated” despite the statistics, like those cited above, that show it’s harmful to both the single mother and her kids. Tammy’s commercials demonstrate the Democrats’ unwavering commitment to identity politics: Step #1: identify a “victim”; Step #2: pander shamelessly to him/her/them. Speaking of pronouns, I served as a poll worker last Tuesday; my colleagues and I wore ID tags with our first names on them; we were informed by the supervisor that we could add our chosen pronouns. I was the only one to decline the offer. No place does virtue signaling like Madison.
Thank you for being a poll worker. I have been one at a small township for a few years and enjoy learning about the process. No one talked or asked about pronouns.
So Vance says “suburban women are focused on normal things. They don’t care about reproductive rights.” Tell that to the women in your life and see how many votes you get. Vance is dumber and more despicable than trump.

The Gotch always thought that Baldwin was Midwestern Nice, whoever has her ear/is running her campaign decidedly isn’t!
