Candidate’s wife shames the Democrat incumbent!
The Werkes has postulated that likability is the secret sauce of successful political campaigns. (Blaska’s limited success being the exception that proves the rule.) On that score, Tammy Baldwin scores high up in Betty White territory. But her campaign for election to a third term in the U.S. Senate has been vicious, misleading, and dishonest. And probably, effective.
The motto over the archway leading to Stately Blaska Manor reads “It’s never too early to go negative.” If you don’t trash your opponent, who will? Excuse us — did we say “trash” your opponent? If it’s your tar brush, you are “defining” your opponent.
In the last thrilling episode, we detailed Tammy’s serial dishonesty. Tammy put up a video claiming her challenger said farmers don’t work hard. (Eric Hovde only said occupations are less dangerous than generations ago.) The incumbent Democrat followed up with a spot saying Hovde hates single mothers.
The Hovde campaign responded Thursday 08-15-24 with a scolding from the candidate’s wife, Sharon.
“Sen. Baldwin, your dirty campaign has gone too far. Your latest attack on my husband is about single mothers? I was a single mom when I met Eric. It was hard. Eric saw the difficulty I faced just trying to afford child care. … Your whole campaign has been about lies and personal attacks.“
And another thing: The WI State Journal still has not reported results of the Republican congressional primary 08-13-24 here in WI Second District. FYI, Eric Olsen defeated Charity Barry. But maybe it doesn’t matter. Mark Pocan is so confident of victory the incumbent is soliciting campaign donations he is sharing with Tammy Baldwin. (H/T: Gordie)
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Sharon Hovde is correct. Tammy’s whole campaign has been about lies and personal attacks. One might think she would talk about her own record. But the career politician (two can play at that, John Nichols!) was smart enough to be a no show at Joe Biden’s tiny rally at Sherman middle school here in Madison Wi in July. She’s smart enough to make the race about her opponent rather than talk about her record.

Senator Baldwin’s campaign strategy to personally attack Eric Hovde with one lie after another is another in a long line of morally bankrupt tactics that Democrats use with impunity.
I’m really sick and tired of what I’m seeing with our politicians, we need to tell them all what we expect of them.

Considering the ubiquitous “so-n-so has approved this message” malarkey, we’re left to ponder if, before signing off on these despicably detestable, fact bereft ads, Baldwin’s Ethics Alarms didn’t positively scream Gosh, is THIS the path I must take to victory?”
If they did, she didn’t listen.
