Israel teaches a valuable lesson!
Trying to stay in our lane, the faceless bureaucrats at the Werkes are not geopolitical experts. We’ve allowed our international passport to expire and our French was never that good. But we do have some experience on the school yard, where we learned that poking the big kid might get you poked back in return no matter how often you cried “Cease fire!” In other words, we may have had it coming, ya think?
We yield the floor to Jake Tapper, a CNN journalist with a bit of an edge. (We like edge here at the Werkes.) In response to calls for a ceasefire to spare “innocent” lives, Tapper in this 7:46 minute clip asks, “What did they expect?”
‘Justifying the deaths of innocents.’ That’s an interesting phrase. What exactly did he think the Israeli military would do in response? Did they not anticipcate that Israel would retaliate? … in a way that would cause innocent Palestinians in Gaza to die, given the fact, as has been established by Israeli intelligence, U.S intelligence, and journalists on the scene, that Hamas embeds in the civilian population? What did they think would happen?

At the risk of being taken to task by the Squire….In the consensus of the Board of Directors at Camp HuFlungDung, if Trump were CIC, the Russians wouldn’t have tried the Ukraine fiasco, nor would Hamas pulled their latest BS. Oh, the Afghanistan CF wouldn’t have happened, either.
And stupefying inflation and concomitant interest rates. And open southern border. And “forgiven” student loans. And necessitated second jobs. And second string guys taking over women’s sports. Etc. Too bad Bad Orange Man’s toxic personality makes his possibly the only putative candidate likely to lose to Squinty in 2024.

Yes yes and yes! Bill Maher is GREAT in that clip. When I first heard it, I was immediately unhappy that I didn’t think of it myself.
IMO, Hamas expected– nay, wanted Israel to go “scorched-earth” in an effort to turn public opinion against them and scuttle the attempted “reconciliation” between Israel and Saudi Arabia. I personally think this has blown up in Hamas’ face and will turn more people against them than the Jews due to the unbelievable butchery they demonstrated (unless you are part of the “Hamas caucus”– Rollie, Dick, OB, etc..). Most people I talk to agree with the Israeli position of “Hamas no longer has the right to exist”.
Not likely to turn more people against them. There are far too many ignorant (intentionally) Liberal minded college age students (and graduates) who have learned to hate the Jews. Add to that they are being educated(?) by America hating professors.

Again the same logic of Blaska can get turned around. What did the Israeli government expect? Set up an apartheid state and think that nobody will violently resist? Expand settlements, destroy people’s homes, and kill innocent people and think that nothing will happen?

Are Cons suddenly in favor of following UN guidance and authority? Or perhaps only when the UN happens to agree with what Cons want? None of this would have happened if the UN had been allowed to be an actual democratic and authoritative body and, even absent that, if the advice of the UN had been followed in the years since the partitioning in 1947.

I agree that Hamas’ attack is not the same as freedom fighters resisting colonial oppression. Killing innocent children has no context in which it is justified. I don’t agree that it was unprovoked, because killing innocent children has no context in which it is justified.
None of this is self defense, all of it is vengeance.
If you’re going to bring up war crimes (and I do agree that what Hamas did is unequivocally a horrific war crime) I would think that you’d be interested in rallying against them without regard to who is committing them. But it seems like Cons only like to bring it up when the brown-skins commit them. (Oh no I brought up race again!! That’s not fair!)
With this newfound interest in international law, I assume you’re also advocating that the US sign on to the treaty that would subject our citizens to the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court?
