UW-Madison hires by race

Impermissibly!

Any school that expels from campus a 42-ton boulder accused of racism is choking on Woke. Few major state universities are more race-obsessed than the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Once known for helping 19th Century farmers overcome the wheat louse and transition to a more demanding agriculture, dairy farming, our land grant university now teaches identity politics, to the detriment of our public schools and media outlets.

The UW mandates pernicious, race-based hiring quotas not just in grievance studies and sociology (please pay off my college loans!) but in medicine, engineering and other STEM disciplines, according to a conservative boutique, the Institute for Reforming Government. The IRG says it has found evidence “that thoroughly documents UW-Madison’s unconstitutional, highly race-conscious, faculty hiring initiative called the Target of Opportunity Program.”

AKA the TOP program, “it permits the university to hire and specially fund applicants to the school’s faculty partly on the basis of race,” says the IRG’s Anthony LoCoco. “This is incompatible with the recent United States Supreme Court case striking down affirmative action.”

The U.S. Supreme Court’s long-desired decision overturning affirmative action in college admissions has lifted the rock (42 tons or not) to expose the Deep University.

Not enough Hispanic dermatologists

LoCoco says UW-Madison’s business school charts faculty race by percentage under the categories “Asian,” “White,” and “African American.” The school of medicine and public health argued that a targeted hire was necessary in part because “there are only 4.2% of dermatologists of Hispanic origin compared with 16.3% in the general American population.” LoCoco writes:

In Students for Fair Admissions, the Supreme Court explained that it had “rejected the assumption that ‘members of the same racial group — regardless of their age, education, economic status, or the community in which they live — think alike,’”18 and that use of that assumption in admissions decisions was constitutionally impermissible. But stereotypes occurred often in UW TOP proposals.

The economics department noted a “unique opportunity to hire a quantitatively minded Indigenous scholar” given that “talented and ambitious Native American students tend to specialize in law and humanities.” The hire would “help encourage Indigenous students to study applied economics.” Similarly, the psychology department asserted that its commitment to “hiring a cohort of 6 faculty of color” was “essential for both recruitment and retention of scholars of color.”

Anthony LoCoco, Institute for Reforming Government

The recent signed state budget withholds $32 million from the state university system to pay diversity, equity, and inclusion bureaucrats (although the Democrat(ic) governor vetoed eliminating the positions themselves). Assembly Speaker Robin Vos also intends to zero-out a race-based scholarship program.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: The Institute for Reforming Government demands that the legislature zero out the TOPS program as well.

Or will a court challenge do it first?

Though it may pain me to make your point stronger, the equity stats, to my mind, significantly distort hiring decisions because they use the wrong metric. And by using the wrong metric, they grossly misplace where the remedy should be applied.
Take MMSD’s Advanced Placement classes, as an example of what is going on, in which there are disproportionately fewer black students than the proportion of black students in the total student population. Ali Muldrow concludes that this per se is proof of the District’s systemic racism.
However, 95% of black students cannot read at grade level, twice as many as the rest of the student population. How does Ms. Muldrow expect kids who can’t read or comprehend to do in advanced classes?
The reality is that equity policies never push into AP classes or Harvard those black kids who suffer in the underclass, the last remnants today of those still being harmed by slavery and Jim Crow because their families were ruptured and then government policies discriminated.
Instead, under today’s equity rubric, it is only the top third of black elites, who suffer the least if at all from racism, who get pursued triply aggressively without there having to break a sweat so that the AP class, or Harvard can show 12.6% numbers (i.e. the proportion of all blacks in the population).
To be clear, these grossly misunderstood policies championed by the black elites only really help black elites and, once again, leave the black underclass in the dirt.
Why white liberals expect black ELITES to operate any more benevolently than white elites, just because of a half ounce of melanin in the epidermis, boggles my mind.
Those who still suffer the worst are not going to be benefited by affirmative action admissions to Harvard — unless you’re an believer in trickle down economics — because today’s focus for racial remedies continue our inexcusable policy of focusing on black elites, with whom us white limousine liberals feel ever so much more comfortable chatting with.
Anyone really concerned with racial justice, which means helping first those who need the help the most, would understand that the problem lies in the underclasses black kids early life, when we need to need to extend help-aides to enrich their family life that racism destroyed, how to socialize, and most of all how to read. If we continue to fail to teach them to read and comprehend, then there will be no ladder for them to climb up on.

“Enrich their family life that racism destroyed”. Nope that was feminism and the welfare state. Lots of poor white trash stuck in it too. Inconvenient truth. And white elites know exactly what they’re doing. Can’t be a white savior if you’ve saved everyone.

Very disappointed the diversity standards don’t apply to the crew that did an impeccable job removing the rock. Impeccable.

UW can make up for it when they hire the demolition crews for Van Hise and Van Vleck. I’ll bring the popcorn.

Not sure where you’re going with Van Vleck, but you’re spot on with Van Hise. You want WOKE cleansing? We haven’t gone far enough; let’s do it up right!

The Progressive Eugenicists’ desire to…um…regulate reproduction and the population wasn’t restricted to a certain demographic/segment of humanity, they were far more diabolically hateful, bigoted, discriminatory, elitist, classist, and RAYcist over a far greater spectrum than any fringe group of White Supremacists or the Ante-Bellum South ever were.

Why? Because they sought a Greater Good bolstered by the approval of their own consciences.

Not to over-simplify, but back at the turn of the 20th century, the newly minted BIG GUBMINT Administrative State was coming off a clear victory of disabling the EVIL Corporate Trusts. A goal achieved no longer motivates and, feeling their oats, what next?

      Hey, howse about improving humanity?

Natural selection improved society over time, but a glacially slow pace; couldn’t these whiz kids jump start that with “Scientific Selection?”

C’mon, you could improve flora-n-fauna by selective breeding, am I right? Why not extend those efforts to humans? Heck, what could possibly go wrong?

Anywho, right here on campus, the U.W. Madison (GO BADGERS!!) was in the thick of the Eugenics craze.

Selective breeding, forced castrations & sterilizations, work camps, elimination of “inferiors,” ad infinitum ad naseum, Eugenics had everything nascent totalitarian Proglibocrats could want, and then some.

U.W. academics Charles Van Hise, Edward Ross, John R. Commons, and “Progressive Political Economist and Social Gospel Advocate” Richard T. Ely were of…um…similar mindset; all but Ross would be considered for a Bucky Mt. Rushmore.

Have their books, awards, scholarships, plaques, their freakin’ memories, been the subject of any weepy hand-wringing? Not that The Gotch’s heard.

Van Hise Elementary School has “sister” Velma Hamilton Middle School, which may soften some of the historical stigma, of which most aren’t aware.

And no call heard for renaming Van Hise Hall on campus yet; you?

A REAL PRIZE? Canceling the eponymous University founded/endowed by Scum-of-the-Earth Slave Trader Elihu Yale!

Defunding the DEI scam is a good first step in dismantling the whole rotten system that underpins UW-Madison. The next should be eliminating tenure for any department outside the STEM fields, especially the Law School and the School of Education. Their sole function has been for many years to poison impressionable young minds with leftist ideologies.

And then cut that top heavy, over paid athletic dept.

Thanks to the nearly 2 million people that come to Madison each year for Badger sporting events, camps or other activities in UW Athletics facilities, WISCONSIN ATHLETICS HAS A $757 MILLION TOTAL ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE STATE, according to a study completed earlier this year by Econsult Solutions, Inc. (bolds/caps/italics mine)

Only really Really REALLY stoopid people think that U.W. athletics don’t have a net positive economic impact, in addition to underwriting the many non-revenue wymyn’s sports AND fund their participants’ educations.

The Lazy @$$ Blogge Idiot TROLT thinks that U.W. athletics don’t have a positive economic impact.
