New Madison school board member defends heckler’s veto

Welcome news for Freedom Inc. social justice warriors

Reprinted from RightWisconsin 06-22-19:

Just when you thought the Madison School Board couldn’t get worse, it did. The board voted unanimously to add Savion Castro, formerly of One Wisconsin Now and currently a Democratic legislative aide for Rep. Sheila Stubbs (D-Madison). Castro replaces former Democratic candidate for governor Mary Burke on the board who resigned earlier this year.

RightWisconsin writes:

Despite the unabashed praise of the Capital Times for Castro’s “new perspective” and the addition of “diversity” to the board, his appointment is not a good sign for a school district that has been plagued by protesters attempting to shut down dissenting opinions at school board meetings. Castro is outspoken opponent of free speech. Castro even testified at the state legislature against protecting free speech on University of Wisconsin System campuses.

In an editorial on May 4, 2017, Castro and One Wisconsin Now were named RightWisconsin’s “Losers of the Day,” with good reason. The editorial is below:

In an op-ed for the Cap Times, left-wing organization One Wisconsin Now’s Savion Castro attacked Right Wisconsin editor Charlie Sykes, accusing him of supporting hate speech because he supported the right of Ann Coulter and Charles Murray to speak on campuses. …

We’re not going to defend everything (or anything) Ann Coulter has ever said, and we doubt Castro has even read “The Bell Curve.” But that’s not the point. Coulter and Murray were invited by campus organizations to speak, and Sykes supported their right to be heard on college campuses. …

Castro redefines free speech, making it subject to the veto of the mob. “Citizens have a right to chose whom they invite to speak to their community based on community guidelines and a right to protest voices with whom they disagree,” Castro wrote.

The point is these speakers were invited, and nobody is suggesting taking away Castro’s right to protest. But if Castro is the enforcer of the “community guidelines,” or if he redefines the community to include rioting mobs than can decide who can and cannot speak on campus, then he proves the need for legislation to protect the right of free speech on UW campuses.

James Wigderson at RightWisconsin concludes: “Madison’s school board made a horrible choice. But that’s to be expected.”

  1. Madison is speaking loud and proud. Is it time for people to pull their children out of Madison public schools and move out of Madison leaving it to the left wing wacko’s? To do so makes a great deal of sense; however, what happens as the sane citizens leave the inmates in control of the asylum, it WILL get worse, much worse.

There are reasons I chose 35 years ago NOT to live in Madison.

Madison has been choosing ITS future and these wackos are the leaders that are chosen.

    Let the exodus begin.

Idiots aren’t aware that Emmett Till was murdered by members of the democrat Party of DEATH, WAR, RACISM, & HATRED!

      One more thing;

For the love of god, if the TROLT can’t/won’t post anything that adds to the conversation, then STFU.”

          Wait a minute.

How could anyone that posts such illiterate, improper spelling, drivel possibly read for comprehension.

        • richard lesiak says:

gotch; you said “murdered by members of the democrat party.” You seem to have conveniently left out the first three words. I repeat; show us proof or shut your pie hole.

        • Cornelius Gotchberg says:

Anyone that isn’t a blithering imbecile, a group which incuriously mutually excludes you, knows that ALL the VIRULENT racist Southerners (Maddox, Thurmond, Wallace, et al) were ALL card-carrying members of the ANTI Voter/Civil rights democrat Party of DEATH, WAR, RACISM, & HATRED!

Oh yes they did. Every Stone racist of that era was a yellow dog Democrat. Ask Bull Conner.

        • richard lesiak says:

you wrote “murdered by” fool. prove it or continue trying to worm your way out of being an idiot.

        • AnonyBob says:

Yellow Dog Democrats have nothing to do with today’s Democratic Party, not after the Civil Rights Act and Nixon’s southern strategy. Now those racists are rightfully called Republicans. It’s the big (white) tent party.

  3. Gary L. Kriewald says:

Castro’s definition of free speech is miles removed from what the Founders envisioned, but that’s what happens when you regard the Constitution as a “living document” that can be manipulated by left-wing fanatics to suit their multicultural wet dream of what American society should be. His twisted version of free speech is identical to the one that’s prevailed on college campuses for decades, where adherence to “community guidelines” means suppressing any viewpoint that doesn’t conform to the toxic, politically correct orthodoxy of the far left. Once again Madison’s leftist elites anoint a perfect compadre, one guaranteed to plant a big wet one on Freedom Inc.’s collect arse.
