Rodriquez is out: from seven to four
Sara Rodriguez is suspending her campaign. “As we have continued today to [word indistinct] our financial report, it has become clear that there are issues that would be an ongoing distraction,” the candidate said this morning. A bitter pill, but bravely swallowed.
Lt. Gov. Rodriguez’ name will remain on the primary election ballot, as will those of David Crowley and Missy Hughes, who have suspended their campaigns — Crowley just days before Rodriguez’ campaign committed auto de fe over the weekend with the bombshell (we try not to over-use that word) that her campaign finance reports had been spatchcocked and deep-fried, and that she was down to shaking the sofa for loose change.
Maybe it’s just the random fickle finger of fate that of the seven candidates, the three to drop out occupy the political center — leaving Joel Brennan its sole occupant with the three others far to the left: Mandela Barnes, Kelda Roys, and Francesca Hong. It is not out of the question that Crowley could get back in and the chatter is that Gov. Tony Evers would endorse the Milwaukee county executive if he did.
We won’t waste too much valuable bandwidth on last night’s embarrassing display of presidential obsession — MAGA’s Lost Cause, aka the Stolen Election that wasn’t. We summarize (with credit to Scott D. Henry):

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Of all the potential uses for a prime time address to the nation in the lead-up to the mid-term elections, this obsessive-compulsive President chooses conspiracy mongering. As for Sara Rodriguez, could the case of the non-existent donations be any more bizarre?

No, Democrats are the ones who say government works. Republicans say that government does not work, and then they get elected and prove it.

Joel Brennan is probably the most qualified of the Democrat candidates. He wouked for the state DOA so he probably knows quite a bit about the state government, the budget, show to get things done, the real issues, etc. Why doesn’t the party get behind him?
Come on Dems. Let the people decide who they want for a candidate.

R’s in WI have the luxury of choosing who they lose to. But, they never learned the lesson of The Gambler. You hit on the new paradigm of politics but don’t understand it. The rules have evaporated, the gates that defined acceptable discourse and which well-contained leftist philosophy fell. You think that there exist disqualifying statements or actions, even when the evidence against that belief is sitting in the White House. (You do have racism on your side – it could be that there are enough committed bigots that only White men get a free pass, and women of color still get held to standards)
Instead of accepting that Trump should be impeached and we should move on, many of you are embracing D primary meddling. Rs could easily get the most R-like D candidate for governor nominated. But instead, you’re gambling on the idea that Hong will lose to a Trump boot-licker.
I remember thinking about voting for Trump in WI’s 2016 R primary. I thought he’s so unelectable and had so many disqualifying qualities, it would be fantastic if he were the R nominee…
By all means, don’t listen to me, I’m in a great spot. If she’s nominated and wins, great! If she’s nominated and loses, the nomination and campaign will move socialist political progress in the Midwest much further than it would otherwise be, and *most importantly* shift the Overton window to the left for the first time in decades. Even a loss would be a valuable and rare educational opportunity for this nascent political movement.
Centrist Ds delay our inevitable path towards socialism, they exist to convince people that capitalism simply needs a friendly face and reasonable regulation. Extreme Rs hasten our progress down the path, greedy to suck more of labor’s bounty into the hands of the investor, corrupt with unabashed grift and cronyism, eager to feed the war machine. And there’s no such thing as a centrist R anymore. So, lovers of capitalism, your best bet is to support moderate Ds. But you won’t 🙂
