America needs the odd man out

Celebrating those who dared poke!

A popular Madison radio talker and (I think) still friend says “Watching Trump unload on Mitch McConnell makes you want to cheer.”

As if the former leader of Senate Republicans is the problem. We, ourselves, preach it’s never too early to go negative. Lee Atwater got it right the first time. But questioning whether the former Republican Senate leader ever suffered polio, as #45 & #47 did, goes beyond sharp elbows to just cheap and churlish. Why so defensive, Donald?

Mitch McConnell gets the playground taunt for being the only Republican to vote against Hegseth, Gabbard, and Kennedy. Mitch is the “RINO” who filled the federal judgeships with conservative, originalist judges right up to the Supremes. Who passed Trump’s tax cuts. Who skewered Chuck Schumer like a leg of lamb! Think of it this way: Donald Trump would not be President today if Mitch McConnell had voted to convict on impeachment

One of the reasons we love Madison. Bulletin board at Colectivo Coffee on Monroe Street. The whole bouillabaisse! On one posting, a 16-year-girl offers to teach cello to other kids.

Are Democrats doing enough to counter Donald Trump? That’s what CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD)! How about asking if Democrats are doing enough to quit pissing off the rest of the country? Raskin answered that we’re both doing as much as we can, helpfully including the Wolf man in his crusade.

Vicki McKenna was right about vaping! Nicotine itself, while addictive, carries none of the carcinogens present in tobacco. The result of vaping: “Cigarette smoking among teenagers is at a record low,” the New York Times admits.

Paving over paradise to put up a parking lot? Trump wants to pave over the grass in the White House Rose Garden. (Source here.)

We’re on board with Greg Gard as coach of the year, especially after Bucky’s 94 to 84 dismantling of Purdue on the road 02-15-25. Like every fair-weather fan, we thought the Badgers were cooked when we lost Chucky Hepburn and A.J. Storr to that mysterious portal.

Kurt Bangstad of Minocqua Brewing had already been found liable for defaming the publisher of the local weekly newspaper (now there is a reversal!). In October Bangstad was arrested for continuing to defame the publisher. (“… depicting the publisher and general manager of the Lakeland Times newspaper in a sexual manner.”) Now the wayward Democrat is endorsing Jeff Wright for Supt. of Public Instruction. Incumbent Jill Underly cooks the books to camouflage declining student performance. Reasons enough to vote Tuesday for Brittany Kinser.

Bill Maher jokes that federal offices will be closed Monday, President’s Day. “Which was the plan anyway.”

Invited friends over to watch Saturday Night Live that first season in 1975. The NY Times this Sunday recounts 50 catch phrases for SNL’s 50 years. We’re partial to the Dana Carvey, Mike Meyers, Phil Hartman, “Sweeney Sisters” years — the late 1980s, early 1990s.

“Who could it be … SATAN?” We can still hear Christopher Walken’s distinctive intonations as he insisted “I got a di-SEASE! and the only cure is more COW-bell.” “It’s a floor polish AND a breath mint.” And Norm McDonald’s grin after he defied the network brass with another dig at O.J. Simpson.

Apparently, JD Vance engendered his own catch phrase. Responded to a WOKE-loaded question from a CBS News adversary with “I don’t really care, Margaret.” Should have prefaced with, “Frankly, my dear.” Maybe, “you ignorant slut”?

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Old Mitch doesn’t owe a gawddamned thing to anyone, any more. He’s free to be and doesn’t care who knows it. Your Head Groundskeeper identifies with Mitch, Norm McDonald, Lee Atwater, Bill Maher, and JD and all malcontents who dare unclothe the emperor.

Who’s your favorite odd man out?

While The Gotch (whose certified Red Room©™® rockin’ to beat $#!t yesterday) won’t entirely disagree, Gard’s work is incomplete…thus far.

But layin’ the wood to the #7 Boilermakers in (arguably) the toughest basketball venue (Mackey Arena) in the known Universe by double figures, with McGee ejected, and both Crowl and Blackwell out with foul trouble? Priceless! Game Ball: Redshirt Freshman walk-on Jack Janicki.

18 assists to three (3) turnovers (none in a 58 point second half), and not only shooting a blistering .615 from the field, but an otherworldly 90.9 % (20 of 22) two (2) point shots. It’s been over 15 years since a D-I team had three (3) or fewer turnovers and shot better than 60% in a road game; against a Top Ten team? Considerably longer.

Oh ye of little faith…. Chalky’s having a great season in Louisville, but Storr’s ridin’ the pine in Lawrence.

We (IMO) traded WAY UP with Came Outta Nowhere super transfer John Tonje, (Naismith Award midseason team member and Oscar Robertson Award midseason watch list) who led all scorers with 32, along with four (4) other Badgers in double figures.

This here over-achieving Badger Team is FAR greater than the sum of its parts.

    ON WISCONSIN!!!

Why isn’t anyone investigating where all of these monster affordable housing units are being paid by who, what, where, how, etc, etc,??? Has to be under the table. Or is it just Federal money…so nevermind.
