the great R. Crumb

The check is NOT in the mail

Could Republicans be so lucky?

Poor Tony Evers. Democrats kicked their own governor one last time on his way out the door. The lame duck governor cobbled together a bi-partisan deal for $600 million more dollars for schools! Big fat check in the mail for taxpayers — $600 for joint filers. No tax on tips and overtime! No way, said Democrats who stood together in that familiar, righteous pose: solidarity! Against their own governor!

Manfully, to the extent that Tony Evers can muster testosterone, the governor attempted to blame Republican governor candidate U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany for “blowing up a bipartisan plan.” But Tiffany left the state legislature for the U.S. Congress years ago.

Let the record show: Republican state legislators overwhelmingly voted YES. Every one the Assembly Republicans who answered the roll call supported the deal — $1.8 billion in property tax relief!  Only 10 of the 45 Democrats in the Assembly sided with their own governor — and taxpayers! None of them represent the Madison area, dooming the measure to a 61 to 32 defeat.

Not one of the 15 Democrats in the State Senate voted with their governor, including Kelda Roys (D-Madison), the teachers union candidate for governor, where it lost 18-15.

Voting no from the Madison area: Sens. Hesselbein, Keyeski, Ratcliff; Roys; and Reps. Bare, Baldeh, Stubbs, Subeck, Hong, Anderson, Joers, Udell, Fitzgerald. (McCarville did not vote.) — all Democrats

So much for the cost of living

Democrats will have a lot of (as Ricky scolded Lucy) ‘splainin’ to do on the campaign trail this year.

Democrats just gave Tiffany back his signature issue, campaigning against the 400-year tax increase. If he wins, what will Democrats accomplish over the next four years? Nothing.

from State Rep. Ryan Clancy, Democrat of Milwaukee

And win he will. The highlighted quote belongs to Waukesha-based blogger James Wigderson, who long ago left the Republican side over Donald Trump, much like Charlie Sykes. Democrats on the campaign trail will be on the back foot trying to explain why they voted against tax relief, getting deep into the weeds over school funding formulae, which is slightly less arcane than the unified theory of the universe. Except for the other legislator running for governor — Francesca Hong ( -Madison). The socialist‘s Play Skool platform says the state should foot the entire bill by soaking the rich with no spending restraints on the educrats no matter how poorly performing the school. And, with Sen. Roys, no voucher escape hatch.

Speaking of Trump, even this 34-year dues-paying RINO must admit the President controls his party like no one since LBJ. Complete opposite of poor Tony. Was said if you crossed Lyndon your barn would burn down that night. Tony, apparently, can’t manage a “pretty please?”

Vos, on the other hand, shows once again that he still has control over his caucus, even if he is personally unpopular with the Republican Party base. Vos was able to engineer one more vote to protect his Assembly majority before he retires. His members will be able to campaign on more school spending and tax relief heading into what promises to be a very difficult election cycle this November. — James Wigderson

Blaska’s Bottom Line: It was a trap, all along. Vos set it and Democrats fell into it. Once more, brother Wigderson: “As for the taxpayers, we’re screwed again. No, the bill wasn’t perfect. … But it was an actual compromise, something voters claim they’ve wanted.”

If Democrats win this November,
will they just spend the surplus?

There is something wrong with any compromise with Democrats.

Dave: Who were the two GOP state senators that voted against the bill and doomed it to defeat?

3 Republicans voted no: Hutton, Kapenga, and Nass. 15 Republicans voted YES. 15 Democrats voted NO. Does that help make your point? (Didn’t think so.)

Will Democrats just spend the surplus? Does a bear do number 2 in the woods?
