What’s it all about, Alfie?

Is it for the attack ad we live?

At some point, the law of diminishing returns kicks in, we tell the good gummint goo goos who want to limit campaign spending, especially after the hundred million dollars spent on the recent and lamentable WI Supreme Court race.

How many prematurely released pedophiles — beyond the wildest nightmares of the kookiest QAnon addict — can a campaign postulate before voters become anesthetized? It’s like images of grieving mothers out of Gaza — sorry, we get it, already. Our empathy tanks are running low.

Instead of making the rubble bounce, we wish Brad Schimel’s advisers had taken a different tack. The Werkes turns now to the same Madison-based political guru who told Trump to drive a garbage truck in Green Bay. He recognized a couple weeks before the election that Schimel was losing to his liberal/progressive opponent. He hit it on the nose: by 10 points.

The guru said Schimel needed to make a personal appeal — speak directly into the camera in close-up. Eye to unblinking eye. “Here Is Who I Am. This is What I Believe. That is Why I am Running.”

The Last Judgement, Hieronymus Bosch

 We chumps vote, too

We know Brad Schimel to be authentic, as he showed in his brave and generous concession on election night. Another friend recalled that when trying high-stakes civil cases, he sought first to make the jury like his client; facts and law can follow.

There are well well springs of human decency in the conservative court candidate that were never allowed to surface. Warmth never plumbed. What if the campaign had been: “Hey! This Brad Schimel is a Good Guy!” TV screen opens full face-on:

Hello, my name is Brad Schimel. I’m not perfect, but I try to be honest. …

I have learned a few things about life in my 60 years. … Sandi and I adopted two beautiful daughters. … While, personally, I believe abortion in the ninth month is wrong, a judge should interpret the law as written, not rewrite it from the bench. That’s the job of a legislature. …

I’m my own man. It amazes me that this Wisconsin race gets national headlines but it’s your votes I’m asking — to keep this Wisconsin we love fair and safe, rich or poor, no matter who you are. … THAT is why I am running for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Maybe even strums his bass guitar. This approach might have worked for the novelty factor, alone, because our politics resemble the Night of the Living Dead. The President of the United States insults … CANADA! We cite Vince Gilligan, creator of Better Call Saul, as quoted in the Wall Street Journal:

Maybe what the world needs now are some good old-fashioned Greatest Generation-types who give more than they take — who think that kindness, tolerance and sacrifice aren’t strictly for chumps.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: We like to say, Never Too Early to go Negative — but sometimes you gotta ease off the Call of Duty joy stick.

Could nice work?

“The guru said Schimel needed to make a personal appeal — speak directly into the camera in close-up. Eye to unblinking eye. “Here Is Who I Am. This is What I Believe. That is Why I am Running.””

Schimel set politics aside at the beginning of his campaign and stuck to his record, integrity, facts, and logic and he did so across Wisconsin going every county in the State and and meeting the public, in their environment, and face to face. I thought it was working? Then Crawford and the millions from Soros started their relentless attack ads and Schimel caved to the “never too early to go negative” crowd went off in search of money to oppose Soros millions buying another Supreme Court Justice, got a Trump endorsement, and Musk (much hated by Democrats) started parading his antics and his money all over the state? This was exactly what the Democrats wanted, Schimel campaign crawled down in the gutter where Democrats experience could easily demonize
him and his campaign. It’s really hard to beat the Democrats at their own game. Schimel’s original campaign where he stuck to his record, integrity, facts, and logic seemed to take a back seat to the “never too early to go negative” mud slinging and the whole thing turned into a circus and Schimel’s original message was lost under a steaming pile of… well you get the picture.

I think “nice” is the wrong word to use and the guru was correct.

I remember a long time ago that a little known Russ Feingold beat out Democratic primary front runner candidates Jim Moody and Joe Checota with this exact tactic, and then unseated U.S. Senator Bob Kasten with largely the same strategy. Perhaps this personal appeal to the electorate would make them realize what good candidates and campaigns look like and cause them to demand more of the same. I can hope.

They answer for over 2 years has been for legislator to pass a fetus murder act that gives exceptions amd protections to physicians and to let Evers either sign it or veto it. Either way would turn the argument that wi gop attempted to give exceptions. Also stop running white guys for wi supreme court, they cannot possibly win while murdering fetus exceptions are illegal. Duh!
