Serious questions for the peanut gallery: If you knew illegal immigrants were living next door, would you call I.C.E.? If you suspected the strangers in the next church pew were “undocumented,” would you ring the bell? Would it depend? Suspected criminal activity? Untended lawn?
We post these impertinences here in the bosom of sanctuary city Madison WI as a supporter of border security. (Our city is also a nuclear-free zone, so we’ve got that going for us.)
Our progressive … acquaintances, their alphabet-soup groups (such as the ACLU), and their allies in the news media are on high alert for Trump’s Big Roundup. Ears to the ground for klaxons in the night.
A City of Madison spokesman said many city residents are on edge. “Lots of freaked out people around here,” Dylan Brogan told us. A funeral Friday for a serving city police officer attracted the usual phalanx of squad cars, which convinced many that an I.C.E. raid was underway.
Madison ordinance outlines the four conditions that police would cooperate with immigration officials. “We don’t want people to not call the police. … The City is closely examining its lawful options,” Brogan told us.
When it gets real
The headline in Sunday’s New York Times caught our eye: “For some Democrats, talk of ‘sanctuary cities’ has grown quieter.” The governor of Colorado, for instance, is gun shy about toeing the Democrat(ic) party line since immigrant criminal gangs took over several apartment complexes in Aurora CO. In the last two years, 40,000 immigrants have descended upon Denver. Imagine the hit on social services and law enforcement.

About the lady bishop
The lady bishop who spoke progressivism to power is misguided. Nonetheless, we are gobsmacked by the hate and vitriol greeting her naive call for compassion. For Chrissakes, Bishop Mariann Budde is not a “demon” as some have posted. Others insist that the Episcopal Church has sacked the woman. Why propagate such easily disproven lies? That guilt-ridden denomination is more likely to canonize.
Here’s an idea: Do not return brimstone for her apple sauce. Embrace this teachable moment. Assure the troubled church lady that the tool box carries no thumb screws. Preach that law enforcement is, by its very nature, coercive. Pat the well meaning woman on the head, pour a cuppa tea, and offer a prayer — for both sides of the divine divide.

Democrats fueled round-up
Various attempts by Republicans in the Wisconsin state legislature to ban sanctuary cities have come to nothing. The usual squishes cry that the feds are targeting sanctuary cities run by progressive mayors. Places like Chicago and San Francisco. Of course they are! if you put a worm on a hook, you are going wet it where the fish swim!
Given the federal dragnet, one might suppose that Kammy, Tammy, and Pocan might wish these days that Democrats had completed President #45 and #47’s Big Beautiful Wall instead of selling it for scrap. One might be wrong. U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Second District congressman Mark Pocan voted NAY on the Riley Laken Act, requiring the deportation of aliens arrested for certain felonies.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Open borders extremists created the climate of reaction that made the round-up — and Donald Trump, himself — possible.

You make a great point, Squire: the Democrats Behavior over the last 4 years made Trump 2.0 possible. Maybe they should look at themselves in the mirror to figure out how this all happened but I think that’s doubtful.
Granted, the Lady Bishop (an oxymoron in my RC Church) is not a demon–but she IS a self-regarding, virtue-signaling, elitist twerp, who couldn’t resist the temptation to deliver a sermon whose sole purpose was to anger and embarrass the President.
I don’t need to deport anyone. We have LEADERS for that doing the will of the common folk, and YAYYYY HOOOORAYYY! No arrests were made, but only because the BPD were probably sitting down by the dirty water Charles eating Buzzy Roast Beef.
