Are we drowning in identity politics?
As much as we like hot button issues here at the Werkes, we do NOT have an opinion on everything. (You are welcome!) We do clutch our pearls when we see men kissing on TV. That may be due to growing up when Lucy and Ricky slept in separate beds. Maybe the Head Groundskeeper is just a cis-gendered old white man, like they say. Like Bluto Blutarsky said after smashing the folk singer’s guitar at the toga party: “Sorry.”
We are libertarian as long as Drag Queen Story Hour is optional and not on mandatory class time. So we are not particularly outraged at the latest beachhead in the culture wars waged in the public schools of Madison WI. Neither are we surprised. This item in the East high school newsletter is bound to be disseminated into the larger community. It was already included in the Madison School and Community Recreation winter guide.
Trans Open & Lap Swim — Starting on Monday, January 23rd Madison School & Community Recreation is offering Open and Lap Swim for Trans folx in the Madison Community at the East High School Pool! Students who are concerned about the cost of the pool pass can connect with Michelle Borkovec for free admission.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Maybe Monday trans swim night is an accommodation for those born as men so they can change in the women’s locker room. Wear their itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikinis without being “judged”?

I’d be fine if they had a “live and let live” mindset as well, but we know that’s not the case. They want complete dominance of their ideology in all aspects of society everywhere, no dissent tolerated. The ones that are quickest to clamor for separation of church and state tend to be the same ones that scream bloody murder when a private religious organization doesn’t cover contraception or abortion in its health insurance.

Unfortunately, conservatives have ignored the so-called culture wars for decades, with predictable results: progressive lunacy has infested every aspect of culture from education (higher and lower) to entertainment to the media to environmentalism (what used to be called conservation) to the corporate world. Under the banner of identity politics, they’re pushing an agenda that seeks to dictate every aspect of our lives. Things that would have been laughable and/or unthinkable a few years ago are now celebrated as “inclusive” and “scientific” and “democratic.” Even if conservatives launched a full-scale counteroffensive tomorrow, it will take decades–and I daresay no small amount of bloodshed–to undo the damage. What’s more likely is that we’re on an irreversible downhill slide. In the past, civilizations that entered a period of decline and decadence did so with some style. We can’t even manage that.

The left will create new culture wars to fill the void of those that are lost or obsolete. That’s what the whole focus on transgender rights and gender fluidity is about. Since conservatives are increasingly alright with gay marriage, they had to manufacture a new war with transgender people as the battlefield to continue to paint the right as bigoted and Victorian.

Drag artists are merely individuals with an overpowering, purely altruistic desire to bring joy and happiness to children through reading stories, interpretive dance, and various modes of personal engagement. Are you implying, SIR, that their zeal would be diminished if they were required to perform “sans accoutrement”?

I know next to nothing about Trans culture, and, I’m not from Wisconsin. So what exactly is an “Open and Lap Swim”? How is it determined exactly who will be the “openers” and who will do the “lapping”? Does it alternate between the participants? Is it a team sport? Is it coming to increasingly “woke” ESPN?
